Russ Penn
I have a 1987 Dolphin with a manual transmission. Is there a way to install a cruise control on it? Has anyone ever done it?
sdboltdude
this might help you out to get an idea on how it works
Bob C
I had an '82 Toy truck with a manual transmission and cruise control. The truck was an SR5 with 22R. the cruise control switches were on the center counsol and kept getting broke. The switches were the cheapest I have ever seen. Maineah
You'll need a clutch switch and I think it would drive you nuts because if you down shift it would drop out so it would only be useful in top gear. but it can be done.
BobBeery
I used to own a Ford Escort stick shift. The original buyer had added an after-market cruise control which worked ok. If Ford, why not Toyota?
zero
I have a 1987 Dolphin with a manual transmission. Is there a way to install a cruise control on it? Has anyone ever done it? You can put cruise-control on anything. My 1978 Toyota Chinook has it - although it's not something I'd ever use. Cruise-control kits used to come with the add-on vehicle-speed-sensors. Not anymore (that I know of). Since modern vehicles already have electronic speed sensors OEM - the kits leave that part out and it's extra. Usually it's just a set of magnets you attach to your driveshaft along with a bracket and sensor. Many of the kits do not use clutch switches for manual transmissions. They use RPM sensor-switches instead. You can add a clutch-switch if you want though. Rostra kit # 250-1223 would work. Cost around $175. Then you also have to buy the vehicle-speed-sensor magnet kit for an extra $45 (part # 250-4165).
Bob C
My SR5 cruise worked in any gear. But, if I had to downshift for a hill, I would not use the cruise until I got to the top of the hill because the cruise would sometimes just bottom out the gas pedal without any useful increase in speed. I pulled a 1500 pound boat and in the hills the 22R just did not have the power to use cruise. No wonder it didn't take long to get used to the RV's low power. After all, I put 200,000 miles on the truck 25 years before I got the RV.
