Historic journals of travels across the USA

Recommended Posts

A link to copies of diaries and accounts of traveling across the country in wagons, on horseback or walking with hand carts.

Quite a contrast to travel in Toyhomes. But some of our roads are the ones they took long before we got there.

Save to files or print out for reading aloud. While some of the links are broken you can do a web search on that diary name and find them that way.

Hey that stuffs in my backyard. What I struggle over in a MH at 30 mph is called South Pass, its the lowest path through the Rockies on the Northern route.

Think of doing it at 10 miles a DAY. The Pony Express, Oregon trail, the Mormon trail and of course the Ca trail all go through South Pass. Before the BLM

closed off the land you could ride out to one of the old Pony Express way stations. Along the way are Sweetwater Station, Split Rock, Muddy Gap and Independence Rock. Plug the Willey Handcart monument, think Donner party but not as infamous.
