Dolphinite no longer here
I know there aren't a lot of members on this forum in Northwest Montana but if anyone gets up this way (Whitefish, Glacier National Park, etc.) they should check out Tally Lake Campground, northwest of Whitefish, MT. This campground is run by the Forest Service and is on the Northwest shore of Tally Lake. There are no hookups, but water is available and a dump station is on the premises. All the camp sites have fire pits and mostly level parking spaces. The cost is $15.00 per night or $7.50 if you have the senior pass card. You have to make reservations online and the place fills up on many Summer weekends but the online hassle is worth it. This place is beautiful! And quiet! Some of the sites are on the shore with a good place to launch a canoe or kayak. The sunny days draw quite a few power boaters so for a while, I guess, it isn't all that quiet. Here are a few photos from our visit:
Bob C
Thanks for the information. I am going to be there next June with my Toyhouse and pop-up (pop-up behind wife's car.) I was looking at maps trying to find a couple of sites in the area.
linda s
My brother in law use to have a place near Eureka Mt. Never got to visit while he lived there but looking at those pics sure wish I had just gone. Beautiful Linda S
MontanaChinook
Tally Lake...is it closer to Eureka, or Whitefish? I lived in Whitefish for a winter but sounds more like something I remember from when my friends were working out near Fortine for the FS... Looks nice! And I bought a canoe this year...Hope to use it this weekend near Dillon for the first time.

Out of the way unless you're planning on heading into northern Idaho or Washington, but worth a visit if you're in the area.
Dolphinite no longer here
Tally Lake is 9 miles north of Whitefish on Highway 93, then left on Farm To Market Road for 3 miles, then right on Star Meadows Road for about 9 miles to Tally Lake Road (gravel) for about 3 miles. Easy to find, just follow the signs. John
