MontanaChinook
I'm in the process of mostly gutting my 78 Chinook. I'm going to replace all the wiring, put in led lights (interior), and replace the converter. Someone suggested the progressive dynamics pd4045 power center. Anyone have thoughts on this, if they're familiar with it, or have other ideas or advice on what to look for or avoid in a new converter? fred heath
I just changed mine out to a Pyramid brand. I have a very low amp requirement (furnace and 2 led coach lamps). I'VE been very happy with the unit. It does put out 13.8 volts (same as most alternators). And no annoying hum when running. Check Amazon for good pricing. stamar
I always look at what this guy does first http://toyotamotorho...?showtopic=3517 hes got mostly the right idea. Then I look at what it costs and decide if it makes sense versus the cheapest one I find. In this case here http://www.ebay.com/...28a0eac&vxp=mtr that would still be an upgrade from the stock one. this the cheapest one with the 3 stage charger http://www.ebay.com/itm/PowerMax-35-Amp-RV-Converter-Battery-Charger-Power-Max-PM3-35-/160932275114?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item25784fa3aa&vxp=mtr
MontanaChinook
Thanks! I think a lot of stuff people have done here won't quite translate to the Chinook...my power center is much smaller than that.
stamar
oh sorry ya i must say he has the same toyhome i do so it all works for the size I didnt know there were different sized converter boxes... http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4810&hl=inverter this device is nice too
MontanaChinook
Yeah mine just has a converter, not an inverter, and its really pretty small. I don't have any photos right now but I'm thinking this will be a direct fit. http://www.bestconverter.com/PD4045-45-Amp-Inteli-Power-Mighty-Mini-Power-Center_p_353.html
Vanman
I got this : http://www.bestconverter.com/4600-series-Upgrade-Kits_c_133.html , if you have a Magnetec now this is a easy swap. Works pretty much the same as the others insofar as the "smart / wizard" charging system. I believe all the vendors I talked to are using the same charging system electronics, difference is in the converter part of the units.
