Area51
Hello Everyone Today I made contact with a seller of a 87 toyota Escaper that has 56 grand on the ticker . 2750 is what is asked , I may have a part trade with a 93 dakota 4 x 4 . Dont know for sure, we will see how that goes. He says it didn't have a bathroom ..? Here is a pic of it . Do any of you know exactly what or who made the camper part? It wont really matter though because I'm going to turn it into a toy hauler anyway . Yeah I want to be able to park my Motorcycle in it and sleep in the over head . So I'll be doing some serious mods and more than likely PUT a full bath in it where the bike will park in the back . . My situation in life is about to change drasticly, and to me , for the better. My wife and I are calling it quits after 15 years , She says shes Sick all the time , depressed, and wont keep a job. The economie has done nothing but put us deeper in the hole with my check not even covering the basics anymore. We are splitting because she can get SSD now Then start her SSI in a few years at age . Me on the other hand I'm a go do it kind of person. I'm out and about and LOVE doing things . Being caged up and not able to even afford to go to Sonic for a dinner is just Killing me ! And I'm not going to pay the price, (money wise or mental wise) for her to live in a lifetime movie sob story . If thats all she wants out of life, She can pay for it . I'm moving on . My goal is simple living and save my money . I have a oppertunity to basicly "live" at my work for free. I have hot showers, laundry, and electricity, All Free. All I need is a roof , and the Escaper will fit that need perfectly. My main mode of transport will be the KLR 650 with home being the Escaper. So when I get out for weekend excursions and vacations , I'm all set . No towing trailers or tag-a-longs, and the money for tags and all that , Easy to get around in as much as a normal truck is , So I CAN take it to the store to get supplies when the weather is too bad for the Bike. But It has to be Really bad for me not to ride . Anyway thanks for reading , Any info on the Escaper will be very welcome.
Derek up North
The Escaper was made by 'Damon'. If it's the layout I think it is, there would have originally been a bath with shower in the left rear corner. Sink & stove occupying the rest of the rear wall. Camper door in the rear on the passenger side. But with only the one picture to go by, I might be wrong!
Area51
THANKS ! It now has a bench seat across the back and the rear door on the back right hand side . It also does not seem to have a stove , just a frig . Cant get any more pics to load Its not really a problem though, Except I dont want to pay for something thats Susposed to be there, and Not.. That equils discount price in my book. I'll be doing My own mods anyway. Going All electric , 48 V battery bank and inverter, roof mount Solar cells, and gen set . On demand hot water, microwave , dorm room size 110 v frig George Forman Grill , And a small portable propane grill for good old fashioned BBQ and grilling out side , and back up water heater. Add small 110 v Ac unit ( Dont trust the roof air) and 110v safety heater . ( wont burn or catch stuff on fire) Edited April 10, 2012 by Area51

waiter
That price seems high for what your getting. i.e. no bath and no kitchen. Might want to check the other appliances, furnace, frig, etc. Also throw a piece of cardboard on the ground and climb around under it to see how much rust is on the chassis, etc. May also want to look for damage on the back end. Area51
I guess this is it. http://springfield.c...2948522955.html Yep , thats it . I'm out the door right now to go look . Card board "creeper" in hand . I always look under any rig i plan to buy . The mods I want to do are specific to where I plan to park it. Thats at my work , I have 110 v service . And With a good genset and battery bank with DC inverter I can have a nice weekender rig . But its mainly for staying in at work and saving 90% of my pay for a few years to put towards retirement . At least thats the plan . So all the Missing stuff is really of no worry , that is IF the price can come down. I will outfit the shell for what I want out of it . And thats No noboard propane except for a little portable grill and its own bottle . So if the LP frig is working, Its gone too ,If anyone wants it. I just dont like LP in a camper . Everything is going 110 v electric .

I think that 2750 is a bit high also... this one looks a bit cleaner and comparable price and miles http://loz.craigslist.org/rvs/2938451387.html
WME
Some random thoughts. 1. Fenders are cheap, chassis repair ain't. The Escapers are aluminum framed so leaks don't cause frame rot, panel rot maybe but its not structural. 2. If the roof A/C and the Refer work use them. At least till they die. The refer has a 110v function. 3. If you don't need a shower and toilet at work, you will need something camping. If your plan on staying at camp sites with facilities, then you don't need a genset. Plan on boondocking? then you need your own facilities. 4. Planing to run ac appliances off an inverter and batteries?? Not such a good idea, simply because of size of the battery bank, where do you put them and the weight of the batteries. Most Toy MH are close to their weight limit. Camping see #3. 5. Looking at the pics it seems that this MH was a rear kitchen/rear side bath. Check and see what is left of the factory stuff. Might be useful for your needs if you end up with this. 6. Just for giggles and negotiation, a new propane refer is $1200.00, a stove oven is $300, a toilet $150, water pump $50, water tank (fresh and waste) are $300. Area51
Wow All I can Say is UGG! I Would have needed this real bad if I bought it . The floor was a sponge , everything had been removed , even holding tanks , all it was was a box on the back end , with a couch . Exhaust leak, No AC in the cab, THICK ! Frame rust and body rust ... Gees what an of a truck. And the sad part was the Ol'e hillbilly trying to sell it though he REALLY had something to sell. So I'm going to keep looking . May go for a used U haul and do it up myself . At least it already has the "Toy hauler" rear I'm looking for. Thanks Again for all the Input . You Guys rock !
