I am just finishing putting in the rear air lift air bags on the 1990 Odessey. I noticed I guy on the forum who put on some leaf spring assists on his rear leaf springs. They go on the back half of the leaf spring toward the back. Where do you get these? MFG? part number? Do they add ride height and create a stiffer spring? I was thinking of going with an air shock gabriel hijackers, but maybe these leaf assits with some monrows would be better for ride comfort. Any info here? Thanks

"> I'm getting ready to fix my '90 Odyssey's sagging rear end and I'm considering a couple different options. It's a 21' model and already has air bags but they don't do enough to offset the sag. Does anyone have an opinion they can offer on these:

Thanks for the info.

JC got the Hellwig leaf assists I think I need for $95. Not sure if this kit 1598 is for 2 spring set or 4. 4wd or 2wd? http://www.jcwhitney.com/heavy-duty-shocks-with-overload-springs/p2006170.jcwx?filterid=c11298d2183y1990j2

This other kit 1515 says 4 springs $129 http://www.truckspring.com/suspension-parts/helper-springs/leaf-springs/hellwig.aspx?make=Toyota&year=1990&model=Pickup

The hellwig site says 1560 for Toyota 1 ton dually RV $142 http://www.hellwigproducts.com/products/load-control/medium-duty-helper-springs/ The other setups may not apply, but the other guys seemed to use the 550 kit.

What about these Gabriel HD shocks with overload springs? These are not gas shocks as well? I don't see a problem with the shock mounts carrying a little bit of the load? Better than air shocks? $84 a pair http://www.jcwhitney.com/heavy-duty-shocks-with-overload-springs/p2006170.jcwx?filterid=c11298d2183y1990j2

Another option? Ride control helpers. $29 a pair. Could put over monrows in the future if I needed more beef? http://www.jcwhitney.com/ride-control-helpers/p2005874.jcwx?filterid=c11298d2183y1990o120j2

Monrow has got a buy three get one free deal on shocks that ends in May. About $85 for four shocks with this deal. 34803 rear and 34953 front.

Also Air lift has a $50 rebate on airbag kit that ends in May

Any thoughts?

I know for a fact that the Gabriel load carrier rear shocks fit 43048. Autozone $76 for a pair I might just use these with the airbags for now before trying helper springs.

I noticed that Monroe sells a Sensatrac load assist shock that looks similar to the Gabriel one above, but does not list a use for a 1990 Toyota truck. Anyone ever try theses shocks and have a part number for one that fits?

Well I finally found the part number for the Monroe load levelers 58486

Rock auto has them $63 for the pair. http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,904,58486

says maintain ride height up to 1200 lbs

Compressed Length11.125"Extended Length18.000"Travel6.875"Parts PackP101http://catalog.monroe.com/catalogPart/displayPartDetails.do?partKey=185935&catalogKey=298&partNumber=58486&catalogCode=monroe&loadStatus=ACTIVE&locale=EN&methodName=displayPartDetails

The gabriel load assists do not list the specs, but are a bout 19 to 20 inches in extended length measuring center of bushing mount to bushing. 43048 The gabriels say 500 lbs per pair of load capacity vs the 1200 for the monroes

http://www.gabriel.com/

Not sure which one is better. I don't know if having the extra 1 or 2 inches of length on the gabriel is better than the monroes or they are close enough?

Like most of our units my leaf springs have 20 years of hauling around the Winnebago box, and they now sag. I have air bags, but mine do not really give much lift. Board members have posted various repair methods. For me, I definitely need to lift 3 to 4inches. Just a quick synopsis reveals - One member used the $40.00 long leaf, while another said it was too weak. I just wonder how much lift these provided?

Someone else said use the Hellwig system which is supposed to be good for 1500 lbs, and is in the $150 range? Will these lift 3 - 4 inches, and are they the grand answer?

Another board member used a spring shop, while this is obviously the best, it's also the most expensive. Along this line, does anyone have a Spring Shop recommendation for North West Washington state?

Looking at the above postings folks seem to be all over the place. So what has worked best for lifting the back end 3 to 4 inches, and what was the price, and are you satisfied?

Thanks,

YVR (Ron)

Not sure where in Washington State you are, but there is a spring shop in Everett, Wa that does good work. as you said this is the most expensive route to go. I took my 87 Toyota 1 ton flatbed dually in there for a quote. They wanted something like $600 to re-arch my springs and add 2 new ones on each side. I did not get the work done, but I know they do good work there. Here is the link

I should have added to post #13 above that I had a quote from a spring shop in Vancouver B.C. that would make new leaf springs for around $630 tax in. I was hoping to find a shop - North of Mount Vernon Washington that could fit a new leaf or two into the pack for considerably less. Here in Canada fitting, a new leaf was almost the same price as manufacturing new spring packs. So I was hoping our American neighbors would be slightly more competitive.

Thanks,

Here's the info you want. You can buy them at just about any parts store for cheap about $40.

do not think they will work, at least on my winnie warrior. The airbags sit on top of the springs & the axle is attached on the bottom.
