vtchris
Has anyone added a tachometer to their Toy? Is it expensive? I am thinking it would help me shift correctly and save on gas. I have a 6cyl 1991 automatic, 22RE.
turtle
The previous owner of my 1991 Sunrader put a tach in. They are very simple to wire in. http://www.toymike.com/sunrader/pics/sunTach.jpg Finding a location for one is usually the hardest part. motoyhomme
When the speedometer went bad on my 83 Sunrader 22R, the former owner went to the junk yard and obtained the entire speedometer, fuel guage, tachometer module from an SR5 pickup and replaced the entire unit. The only drawback is that I have to do odometer conversions to come up with the correct mileage for my rig. Allen
turtle
This is not an option for the late model v-6 automatics (1989 - 1994) as the automatic shift display is within the speedo. There are SR5 dashes for late model V6 but only for floor shift auto or stick shift models, not column shift automatics.
Rusker
How do you wire it in? Is there any kind of writeup online? With the 20r and no tach, I'm afraid to rev it up to high but shifting too soon results in a severe lack of power.
turtle
If you get an SR5 dash with tach it will just plug in and replace your dash. You don't say what year but i assume with a 20r that 79-83 would be the ticket http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=290256600372 Aftermarket tachs will come with all the info you need to hook them up
Rusker
Mine is a 1977. So just getting an aftermarket tach like an Autometer would be the best way to go?
turtle
It might be more difficult finding a factory dash with a tach for that old of a vehicle. I believe that they do exist (can't remember) but would be hard to locate. Installing an aftermarket tach is very simple. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/Autogage-Tachometer.htm
