Wandering Fox
If you have an older model RV from the 80s, do you all find it difficult to find shops willing to work on it? I don’t have a lot of experience working on vehicles, and I was looking at an RV that’s an 84’ that likely needs an input bearing shaft and my partner called several shops to get an estimate and none of them could give us one. One said they couldn’t get the part (but they seem pretty accessible?) the other said he couldn’t search in his system for a vehicle that far back (the chassis is a 84’ Nissan 720). The 3rd place we called said we would have to call back when the manager was in. i know this isn’t a Nissan forum, but I was wondering if this is a problem with older RV models in general? Do any of you have a hard time getting parts or finding someone to work on your RV because of age? Any advice?
Maineah
I'm going to guess Nissan parts may be harder to find. Most common Toyota parts are pretty easy. Even a toy home is big they take up a lot of room in a shop and they are tall enough that a lift won't work so they basically are a pain to work on unless the shop is geared towards RV's. Simple yes but that probably isn't where the money is for a general shop.
mpanzar
I have found that a lot of shops stay away from the RVs due to size and weight. Even the toyota dealer didn't want to touch my 18ft sunrader.
jjrbus
I ask at a local NAPA store they usually know who does what and who the good guys are!
