odysseybernard
Would like to move the spare off the back exterior wall mount to underneath. Noticed the 2 metal braces shown below and wonder their purpose, and if they could be used to mount the spare or if anyone has mounted it in this location? Odyssey 4x4
They kinda look like hangers for a fuel tank. If you know anyone that can weld it would be pretty simple to rig something up to hold a spare! Edited March 27, 2019 by Odyssey 4x4
odysseybernard
Thanks for the reply. May be an accessory tank mounting location but it would be hanging kind of low. It's a 91 odyssey, just wonder if they all had these brackets from the factory. Looks like they could support the spare tire weight though? Odyssey 4x4
If it IS (were) a fuel tank mount, assume a stock tank around 17 gallons and fuel being about 6.3 pounds per gallon would give about 107 pounds full. A tire is a bit less than that. It is an odd location and doesn't really look like a fuel tank mount. My 1990 Odyssey has the tank in the rear in the same location but it is rotated 90 degrees from the way your mounts would have it. WME
This is what you need. Hopefully, someone hasn't cut off the mounting plate. You may need to make the crossbar longer to match the 6 bolt rims. https://www.ebay.com/itm/89-95-Toyota-Hilux-Pickup-2WD-Spare-Tire-Winch-Carrier-Holder-w-Bolts-4-Hole/323582949472?hash=item4b570bf860:g:WyAAAOSwSVNcBu9O
odysseybernard
Thanks, but yes there is no mounting plate on mine and would need a longer crossbar due to the larger center wheel opening

WME
The bolt holes are in the cross member. If you look at the photos of the hoist you will see the same offset bolt pattern.
odysseybernard
Ok, thanks. But how do I access the top of the bolt holes on the cross members to put the bolts in from the top, as it looks like the nuts are welded on the bottom of the hoist holes? Looks like only 1 of the bolts on the cross member remains?
WME
I can't tell for sure. but there looks to be some space between the cross member and the floor. If there is then drill out the nuts on the hoist and slid new nuts between the floor and xmember. You should be able to get an open end wrench to hold the nut. The just tighten a new bolt.
