  1. when you put the new brake shoes on taper the leading and trailing edges with some sandpaper, lots of times people put on new shoes and get noise afterwords due to the angle on the shoes. don't forget to fill your diff up with oil ;-p Also for pinpointing bearing noises use a long screw driver like a stethoscope.
  2. The truck seats? I just removed the stupid covers on them, looks better and much more comfy go figure... Would love to find some second gen 4runner seats though. Thanks for the compliments, my wife recovered the dinette cushions.
  3. there is no port but you can remove the 10mm bolts on the upper cover and pull it back a bit and look in there, shine a light and inspect for cracks/wear. if you don't have the tools to turn it over by hand just bump the engine over a couple times with the key and see if the belt has any markings on it, on mine you could see the labeling on the belt was pretty new.
  4. I installed an 1100w krieger last week, seems to be pretty good.
  5. just don't mix them, I just use Toyota red on all my vehicles (because I have a bunch stocked up) and you can never lose with OEM fluids, but if you have a proper green in there you won't have any problems.
  6. Thanks! got the interior a bit more tightened up now, everything is more organized. Thanks! Yeah will do, I got about 10mpg on the maiden drive home from FL, I've maybe put 100 miles on it since january. I later found out my oxygen sensor was stuck lean causing me to run SUPER rich, got that sorted out and passed emissions with flying colors, just filled the tank today, although now It does have a bit more weight, I can feel it for sure... The airbags in the back are shot so it'll ride much better when those are replaced im sure, the bilsteins definitely helped as well. As far as build quality, its ok I guess haha. Found a lot of crooked screws and botched shit I discovered during the renovation, definitely seemed like it was built on a Friday lol, it's alright though, I've tried to make it better now than it was originally.
  7. The wife and I moved out of our apartment last week and are full time in the RV now, working our jobs until October then heading to Mexico for ~6 months. The past two months of life have been non stop insanity but it feels so good now! Some pics of what's been going on... BEFORE: Bathroom had some water damage up near the roof, replaced all the shower walls with FRP waterproof paneling, after that was done and we got the interior prepped for paint I inspected under the overcab bed for the hell of it and found more water damage, had to do a partial rebuild of the overcab floor, mainly replacing rotted beams and rusted screws, oooo that sucked. Not to mention I almost fainted when I realized there was more work to do... Luckily it wasn't too bad... AFTER: Renovated shower, still need some misc odds and ends taken care of but you get the idea... v Also removed the awful seafoam green seat covers Solar panels mounted, still have to put everything else together with it though, got the batteries/1100w inverter installed now, just need to run the wiring from the panels and install the charge controller & display unit. Time to replace some worn steering/suspension components! Logs are good for jackstands right? Front shocks: Replaced steering relay rod, one inner tie rod, idler arm & I still need to track down a steering damper, I ordered an Old Man Emu unit months ago but its not the right part and I can't return it anymore. BAM Now onto the rears The UPS guy hates me Officially on the road! v So much work and frustration, excited to just enjoy it fully in the near future.
  8. just got 185R14 hankook ra18's for $72/each off amazon, free shipping. can't really beat that...
  9. god damn... my warrior has "TRIANGLE" tires on it, lmao... never heard of such cheap chinese crap before. Such an awful name for a tire company...
  10. Just ordered 7 RA18's off Amazon, $72/each! plus free shipping... score! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G2BX64W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  11. Installed new flooring, just a few minor odds and ends left, been in renovation mode for the past couple months...
  12. It would be pretty crazy to do all that work of replacing the cover and not doing the chains & upgrade to metal guides (if you haven't already) Also replacing the timing cover without pulling the head can be tricky... I've done it but if you mess up your headgasket you're fucked. Doesn't hurt to get a second opinion either... try to find a toyota specific shop. Most places should charge an hour labor to clean the engine, add dye and monitor for the leak.
  13. Toyota fuel filters are usually lifetime... I've NEVER seen one affect engine performance in all my years working on Toyota's *shrug* But yeah I would go OE because the quality difference over aftermarket crap is night and day... buying cheap parts (in most cases) is not worth the headache, imo.
  14. Which ones did you get? Btw thanks for the info on the bathroom info a while back, I'm done with mine, will post pics soon.
  15. I need to replace the drain valve pictured below, the top part broke off when I tried to drain the lines and sprayed water everywhere... I've seen another thread where someone replaced one with a different valve but I can't get mine out and don't want to break shit... It twists a bit but it just wont pull out, dunno if it's just old and seized? Seems like something is holding it in place... Much thanks in advance.
  16. ha, i was just at home depot today and wondering the same thing...
