  1. Feel free to stop into Montpelier and say hi!
  2. The northeast kingdom is sill very much proud of the name. JD is right, it is undeveloped and the "real" northeast kingdom is home to towns of less than 100 people, with the entirety of roads being dirt logging trails. There are big and small towns throughout, but the NEK is where you'll find a lot of what city folk might consider "quaint". I grew up in a very small town and even I am blown away by what I've seen up north. I believe it was the town of Granby that I remember having about 6 house trailers, one being a general store/post office, a church that also serves as a school house, and one logging road in and out of the town, which if you were blinking you may not even know it was there. Just think... NO CELL OR CABLE SERVICE. The humanity....
  3. You might want to stick around for a while. Leaves haven't changed color yet.
  4. Where are you currently, papafred?
  5. Yeah I was just using examples.. I think my idea for a black garden hose wound in a spiral on the roof will provide a better "heater" design on the hot tin roof and the weight will be spread evenly. Of course it take a lot of hose to create a lot of hot water, but a small amount of hot water can go a long way for hosing soap out of your hair, which is really the only thing I can think of that would make hot water worth the trouble. If I don't get around to experimenting with it, I won't lose any sleep. And yeah the tanks don't drain completely off the pump....learned that when I removed my heater last week... I though I drained it but apparently something was clogging the drain plug or something. Now I just need to find some diamond plate for cheap and cap off the 12"x12" hole in the side of my RV. And yes, I capped off the propane line.
  6. Thanks for the info! Sorry for the thread jack. I thought it was more appropriate to utilize an already existing thread rather than create a new one for the same topic. I think I'm going to strongly think about deleting the unit. I think my boondocking days will be limited. If I do decide to boondock I will try to look into a gravity fed solar water heater (big black PVC tube or bag, etc). I will try to locate a more relevant thread for info on that. Thanks once again Linda for your infinite knowledge!
  7. Can anyone confirm that upgrading to the new suburban unit is a direct swap? The back of my "American Appliance" unit has a propane hookup on it. From all the pictures I've seen of the suburban units, I can't see a propane hookup on the back side. I am looking to replace also. I beleive I have a 12 x/x" X 12 x/x" cut out as well. If I upgrade to the electronic ignition is it going to be a pain to hook up? I'm not quite sure what I'm getting in to, but I know I don't want a wet floor anymore.
  8. Concerning the front wheel mount; if you know a guy who can weld, you can easily make a spare mount on the front that bolts to the lower frame loops. Scrap metal and a welder, a friend and an afternoon. It sounds pretty romantic. Anyway, it can easily be done. I guess I'm wondering why you can't mount your other spare underneath the frame between the duallies, like everyone else? Did I miss that post?
  9. Mount the spare on the front. I've always liked the way it looks. Not like aerodynamics would be diminished any more than they already are. I doubt it would affect cooling. I've seen that setup on toyotas in the desert.
  10. There is a guy on the facebook page that is selling 4 or 5 of them for $60 a piece (from what I can remember). I will get his contact info and PM you directly. *he is located in Portland, Oregon.
  11. Yup, I just ended an 11 1/2 hour round trip with the GoForms with no issues. They ride nice, no noise. We drove from our place in Central Vermont, to York, Maine and back. On the way back we took a long unnecessary route (they say it's about the journey, not the destination). We could've been home in about 3 1/2 hours, but we drove up over the White Mountains in NH and the back road route took about 7 1/2 hours. I want to say it was about 400 miles total trip, but I would have to get exact numbers later. I am very happy with what these tire can handle for the price.
  12. Yeah. I don't have 3/4" plywood on my bed. It's a 3/4" pine skeletal structure with a 1/4" sheet of luan (luon?) whatever it's called on top. I'm thinking I would get one long aluminum rectangle tube the same dimensions as the piece of pine the runs the length of the bed from window to window, and replace the piece of pine that's already there. I'd do the whole skeleton in aluminum if I could afford it! Again, Nice work. I appreciate the work you've done as I've recently discovered just how much work is involved in doing this kind of stuff. Side note- saw a Chinook on the interstate today. That's all.
  13. Yeah I live right down the road from Capital Steel in Vermont, so finding scrap lengths shouldnt be too much of a problem. Great idea, someone had mentioned using aluminum for it's light weight, but the price of aluminum is up it seems. Do you have any pictures of the steel installed?
  14. Nice work! I'm also rebuilding the front bunk area on my rig, but luckily I am not in too much need of paint. I might snag your idea for supporting the bunk area, I thought about using a metal strap, but a rectangle tube is probably a better idea. Replaced the entire floor structure, wall carpeting, front window support, Tore it all right down to bones! It was and still is a heck of a project, but the payoff is incredibly rewarding. Keep up the good work!
  15. I wish I saw this post earlier! I just bought and installed a new ladder, and this would've been a more suitable ladder for my needs. Bummer! Nice find, though!
  16. They are handsome/pretty! I had a siamese once but the ex ended up taking her. Smart cat, but those siamese certainly are a handful!
  17. The goforms do not squeal on any condition, or not that I have experienced. I had one occasion where I had to brake hard, and still didn't experience squealing or skidding. Braking traction is great and I can't speak to the wet traction, but they are siped good enough for what they are so I'd have to assume wet traction is fair. I will let you know if that opinion changes.
  18. Well I now have about 150 miles on my GoForm tires. I know it's basically nothing as far as miles, but they ride nice and they aren't noisy. No sidewall bubbling or deformations yet, they seem to be a completely adequate tire for someone looking to save a little money. Cheers
  19. That's a good point, Linda. I guess at most times the full capacity wouldn't be used to it's full potential, but I like the idea of having more capacity than I need for when I'm using it at home. I don't want to buy two crockpots, and with our day to day budget, cooking for the week is sounding more and more like a good idea for us at home. And I would HOPE the fridge can hold 6 quarts!
  20. That's pretty awesome. Although I am thinking 6-quart. I like this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hamilton-beach-6-quart-slow-cooker-stainless/5687045.p?id=1219148659254&skuId=5687045 It's also spill-proof. It might seem big, but I can see it being beneficial to cook a big meal once and eating as you go, as opposed to making small dishes as you want them. Oh, and this comment "The only thing a toyhome will slow cook at 60MPH is the tranny."...I'd like to add "...and a potroast in a crock pot!
  21. White Castle is a guilty pleasure. Probably why they go so well with microwaves. I occasionally have to utilize the vending machine at work for my lunch break and I have the option of candy, soda, $5 cheeseburgers, or a double pack of white castle sliders for $2. I figure if I am at the mercy of the vending machine, I'd rather pretend I'm eating real fast food as opposed to questionable no-name burgers. I'm hoping I can convince myself to strip the microwave out of the Rig, but I REALLY doubt my wife will allow it. I am, however going to counter-sink a crockpot into the countertop so it can sit safely in place, but still be used. Just an idea that popped into my head. That way (pending results) I can in theory, slow cook at 60mph.
  22. That's good to know. Something to consider if you're watching your watt usage!
