  1. not to be rude jdemaris if people knew how a rv was built they would know why using oem parts makes it easyer and the right why to do it. rv,s get there suport by interlocking together like a puzzle.the walls roof inter lockes together . start scabbing wood together then thats what you get a weak frameed rv that will probly leak because nothing will go back together right.and as for the luan it is just as strong if not stronger than any other wood . its all made out of hardwood real luan comes out of asia. as for the glue thing what u think plain pine fir or any other plywood has in .its all glues together. if any wood gets wet it will rot.if you maintance rv,s like they should be the will last a long time
  2. robert weed sell the right wood for your mini . they are the major supplier for the rv factories. it,s in bristal indiana. the factory size wood they use in rv,s is usally 2.7 mm for laminated sheet metal and paneling. 5.2 mm for roofs and side wall skin
  3. hi shibs. i,m restoring a sunland express right now replacing %95 of the wood in entire mini pretty much building a new toy home. if you can do the work your self .u are better off. if have a rv center do the work for you .u could buy a new rv. they are not cheap . where about u live ? i live in lower michigan if you need help or parts i can help. my from ground up restore i will have ruffly1600 in my mini. thats with new everything from carpet to roof. i pretty much lived in the rv capital for almost 30 years building rv,s .just message me if you need help. for your time ? i have about 3 months of weekends just in the framing and reskinning the entire mini.inside should go faster since i can work after dark on it. i think around 6 months i should have a brand new toy home. to let you know i show the pictures of my mini to a rv service tec the labor alone would be close to 9 grand if they did the work
  4. u find a rv center that will repair it . it will be more.you could do the repairs yourself if u take your time .there realy not much to that area of the rv. if you lived closer to michigan i would do it for 2
  5. my sunland has all lp lines running outside
  6. you can get great 22 re long blocks cheaper than u can rebuild or have someone do it a company called perfect engines sell 22 re long blocks for around $1600 they are a real good shop. or they can get you a new not rebuild long block
  7. just don,t use a chitons manual they will tell you to pull the engine out first and change the oil then install new belt lol
  8. just changed a 22 re alt belt . all 22 re i,v owned never had to take fan shroud off.its a little tough just slip belt over each fan blade one at a time.more than likly the belt you have to change is behind ac and power steering belts .just take them off and put alt belt on shouldn,t take 30 min to put on
  9. if the wire is tucked next to your center vent frame .then all you have to do is take out vent and replace with ac and hook up ac.30 minute job. good luck
  10. also check your center roof vent if you have one. alot rv factorys use a roof vent when not called for a roof air . but the still run the wiring
  11. never seen a toyota truck with a scissor jack all that i,v owned had bottle jacks had them from 1983 to 2004. but i do have alot of toyota bottle jacks if need one
  12. doesn,t make sence to put bigger valves in a engine without changing the cam . other than maybe letting engine breath i little better
  13. the knob one is probly replacing burned up factory blower speed control.the switch may turn blower on or compresser for ac on. did you try tracking down the wires
  14. been taking photos of every step just in case i sell it witch is doughtful. half to be on death bed .then i would probly just give it to a real toyota lover. it should last another 30 + years
  15. worked for georgie boy witch was owned by coachman for 23 years building class a and rear engine pushers then went to forest river building class c and b rvs . just for note NEVER buy any class c or b rv by forest river. as for the toy sence i ,m close to were all the wood and parts come from i can get the right wood witch rv factories use metric plywood for the under skin. it just makes rebuilding go quicker. $1700 to replace everything inside and out. if anyone needs parts i can point them in the right places
  16. down to the last 21 inches of new roof skin. already replaced all front cap and bunk wood both sides and 40 inches of both sides of sidewall skin then start on replacing rear cap wood framing and rear cap skin.then 40 inches of new sidewall skin on both sides. only wood that is from factory is the center of mini. the rest was water damage mostly from marker lights that was left unchecked then be ready for new rubber roof. pretty much building a whole new mini toy. new ceiling. new lights. all new carpet from truck cab back. new cabinets. counter tops. lucky i work in a rv plant lol. sure easier than building a forty footer
  17. oh ya for the molding rv nation in elkhart $18 for 18 foot peice the cut in half to ship thou. it,s not custom bent we use a rubber hammer when u get to curves notch trim on both sides as you bend it thats how trailer rats custom bend rv molding around curves LOL
  18. u shouldn,t use any type of rubber roof glue on metal roofing unless u coat both side roof and wood and let tack up before laying then i wouldn,t trust it plus its a pain to do
  19. doing a whole reskinning of a toy home right now new roof skin and rubber roofing. if need help leave phone #. if u live close to michigan or indiana i can let you know where to get supplies cheap. if u go to a rv store u will pay up the tail just for the rubber roof without glue or seam tape and sealent. top of the line rv grade rubber roofing cost me $75 for a 8.5' x18' any where else u are looking at around $200 just for the roofing rubber. it the best way to go is with a rubber roof. i should know i ,v have worked for coachman for 24 years and forest river for 6 . robert weed products gets u the right size luan. it will take 4 sheets of 5.2 mm $15 a sheet. bontreger rv surplus for the rubber roofing 21 foot about $80 . have to use the right glue (alpha 8011 or 8010 acrylic adhesive its water base made for rubber roofing the longer it,s on rv the sticker it gets $38 a gallon .may take u a 1 1/2.use the right lap sealent made for rubber roofing.the best is the eternabond tape. have to use there primer with it . it,s salty but works better than lap chalk and looks better.probly take about 4 to 6 rolls of putty tape at $6 a roll. better to use more than not enough. and MAKE sure you seal marker lights good thats were most of water damage comes from. i take lens off and use lap sealent to fill wire holes then put covers back on. there you have it a top of the line roof for your mini that will last 20 years if done right. biggest thing when laying roof keep wood clean when laying glue. it drys slow so u can take your time.no tack time needed will dry threw wood from underneith rubber. rubber should go under front cap skin in front and over rear cap skin in back. these two areas use contact cement on rubber to sheet metal only. need any help post it here its easy to do will last longer than any metal roof
  20. got new bunk done today replaced 44 inches of the front sidewall underlay both sides all the new wood for front cap framing. then start on new roof skin for new rubber roof .when that's done .start on rear cap framing and 44 inches of rear sidewall under layment. then put rubber roof on.close to 90% of the wood will be new in whole mini. pretty much building whole new mini. when that's done new carpet light cabinets. then going camping
  21. i did my whole mini for $15
  22. i get it for .20 cents a foot rv nation will send it
