  1. they have this repair book that tell them the labor time for the job by itself. ask them to charge you the incremental labor for just the valve seal job. I think you can buy a NEW head for that much :-)
  2. rvs rock when you go to places like northern MI or WI or even in Canada. Lodging is inadequate and pricey. Not to mention "Dirty". Bed bugs, smelly, rude service, yikes. I travel for a living and I refuse to stay in some of the lodging we have in resort towns like Ludington, Frankfort. I used to sleep in my little Honda fit, but that just got too cramped ;-)
  3. Very pretty scenery at sleeping bear, I have not had chance visit it yet. I was 30 mins south of you that weekend. Linda, my girls love the story behind the name, kinda sad though.
  4. blue smoke, did the engine burn oil? I would do it if the dealer comes off the price. ask them to throw you a bone, as they are already opening up the head have them take off some labor. They are going by the repair book.
  5. ok, I will add an atomic lcd on the wall with temp sensors
  6. Linda, pm sent thanks a bunch! look at mine, I can see the screw holes for the vent on each side of this thing (see pic)
  7. JDE, thanks for the pic Anybody can tell me what is that next to the range vent at the corner of the door please? Totem, what did the clock look like?
  8. I had the same question, I will look up my thread and post it here. I will sum it up: 1. Get a air attachment for garden hose 2. Get RV antifreeze 3. Drain ALL the tanks: Heater tank, water tank, Grey, Black 4. Attach air hose to city water and pressurize (use small electric compressor) and have your buddy/wife/gf/neighbor/ex/postman open each plumbing fixture and get water out 5. See you pump has bypass to suction in antifreeze, if not dump antifreeze in water tank, and pump out through EACH fixture 6. Dump 1/2 gal antifreeze in grey and black 7. Dump antifreeze in each drain with a trap. 8. Check the specific gravity of the radiator fluid 9. Make sure you pump out the summer wiper fluid and add winter wiper fluids Get couple of cannolis and coffee and pat yourself on the back.
  9. Linda, I remember you suggesting the transplant as an option for my rotting 90 winni. what wheel base do the older shells fit?
  10. Arrighty boyz and girlz, the epic RV touch and repair will happen next week in my drive way, the temps are going to be in 50s and 60s. I am going to work on the outside resealing and missing lights. I have a lot of stuff that has been fudged with in my 85 sunrader, little things but I have no idea what it looked like or what part it had. if you have an 85 or 84 shorty pls post pics of outside door surround, front back, inside in the back around the range and around the fridge was there a clock from factory above the fridge? Danke!
  11. one member suggested using a cargo support beam to support the roof around the a/c to help with sagging. I bought 2 of them http://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-1-support-cargo-bar-66172.html I used a 4x24 piece of wood under the support beam to increase the surface area.
  12. Blue Tarp? I made mine from house wrap but did not use it last winter (doh)
  13. Pete, when you back home and have a minute pls do share you story with us. Thanks
  14. yeap Toyota is good about it, after I bought my 90 v6, I called them with the vin, they said bring it over to do the head gasket if the recall was not done, they checked and called back and said it was already :-)
  15. if they do it, pls ask them to take pics of the open head, ask them to inspect the coolant ports.... good luck!
  16. Pete, sorry bro, We have a member who is close to Peru, he can take it off your hand probably. Pls PM me you phone #
  17. The lawyer who lives on the next block works on his Triumph sometimes. I hear you, I will give the city a call and check first. FYI: our high school was the first in US to have astro turf in the football field ;-)
  18. I hear you Totem, I did not have time to call around, too many distractions. I can do the swap myself, I have all the tools (thanks for the steps FredN), but I live in a yuppy neighborhood, and don't want to confront any of my crazy neighbors on meds. If I could get some lift time, I bet I could do the bushing swap, drain the fluids and do the shock upgrade. I enjoy working on vehicles, I find it relaxing. Maybe I will grow a pair and just work on it in my drive way.
  19. Arrighty boys, whoever wins buys me a few cold ones, does that sound fair? US does not have a poor first time buyer diesel market. I was out camping in Benzonia, MI and in the camp ground I saw more diesels this year than before. They are mostly shiny new 3/4 or 1 ton, I even saw a GM SRW 1 ton. These truck cost near to $60k with tax with incentives. So they are not your average joes vehicles. GM (or govt motors) can't even tell me how many times my truck has gone into DPF cycle. Back on topic: I think you both agree that Diesels suck as to when you need to debug a problem. Your mainstream mechanic is not cut it. Once in a while we get lucky and you get the chief mechanic from CAT diesel as your neighbor. Remember diesels are used off road for farm/industry/mining. Hey JDE, I pass a diesel injector shop on 54th here in GR, MI, I bought some addy from them back in 2009.
  20. Sherrie, take a peek at this pls: http://www.yotatech.com/f116/new-thermostat-waterpump-radiator-burped-no-flow-254120/ 1. as a control to eliminate the thermostat, how about running it without one and see the problem is repeatable 2. Use your vin and call Toyota and see what history they have on your truck. 3. is there a chance the head gasket was redone and it was not done correctly and could be blocking some ports. 4. what radiator did it have initially? what was the condition of it? 5. Possibly you have gunk in the passages in the block 6. Is the block drain plug easily accessible? if yes, how about looking through it?
  21. Some criminals wear a uniform and carry a badge, CO,Ranger, what the flip you call are not all the same. You were harassed. The guy was a power trip. But in the heat of the moment I would keep quiet and follow direction and then step out the park gate and call state police and the local tv station at the same time. I am sorry you had this happen but animals are allowed on camp ground and parking lots and has to be on a leash.
  22. Sherrie, 1. Fan issues will not cause overheating at hwy speeds, there is enough movement of air to keep it cool 2. Your cooling system either has a restriction or is getting air or your water pump is not working correctly. 3. Pls take a peek at the overflow tank and post a pic of it if possible, kinda gives Hx of the gunk that was in the system. 4. Are you losing coolant? white smoke in tail pipe?
  23. Sherrie Great u did the coolant analysis, I am guessing it passed and it did not show any combustible gases i.e. head gasket issues? Pls tell us again the symptoms of the over heating 1. Does it overheat while you a moving at high speed? 2. Does it overheat after you slow down or come to a stop? Injecting coolant under pressure: how they can say that air will NOT be introduced is questionable. I had a 90 v6 camry, it had a radiator leak around the neck, it had sludge in the engine, the radiator was half empty, I drove it from Kansas city to Michigan and added water to overflow tank when I did not get heat on I-80, the air temp was 73 F when I started and was low 50s when I go to MI. can you pls post a pic of your overflow tank (inside)
