  1. Howdy. maybe it's a cheapo satellite TV antenna.
  2. Fella I bought my Toy from was a sled dogger. He used rock salt in the toilet and dumped RV anti-freeze in the tanks. He used water containers for potable water as I recall. Kept them in the MH so they wouldn't freeze. The rock salt in the toilet was hard on it as I have found out. Doesn't seal well now. Winter camping can be done if your willing to sacrifice a few things, like a toilets longetivity.
  3. Howdy. A/c systems, after they are pulled apart for service, should be vacuumed down with a vacuum pump to boil off any water in the system and to check for leaks. A set of guages installed to watch the high side and low side pressures as r-134 is installed. The coolant was r-12 from the factory and you will have to get a conversion kit to do it properly. I would suggest a professional do this for you. Things can get strange when a/c is attempted for the first time.
  4. If the tank is pulled to flush it properly, the pump unit has to come out to get all the crud out of the tank. Seeing as how the crap went through the pump to get to the filter and partially plug the filter, I'd go with replacing both while you had it apart. Trying to save some bucks may get you stopped on the road facing an extreme towing/parts/repair bill. Replacing the pump/filter now allows you to decide when it's done, at your convience. A vehicle road kill is not a pleasant experience when you do not know the abilities of the fella doing the repairs. Flush the system and replace the pump/filter as insurance. John
  5. Howdy pandp Spongy floors are rotten floors ! They can be replaced usually by stripping out the interior walls and starting from the floor up. It takes time and work. If you not inclined toward the processes of do it yourself major home improvement, you may be better off passing on this one.
  6. Oh. Hmmmm. Well, I think the best thing to do would be to go to an RV sales and service and have 'em check it out. Or, failing that, have someone RV knowledgeable help ya. I'm stumped !
  7. Howdy MMtoy 1- Check out various threads here on tires. 2 -Yup! Thats where you fill the water tank 3-Small door at the bottom of your rig on the passengers' side in back of rear wheel. That's where your plug is for the ac cord. There is a receptacle there to plug in generator. 4- New stuff is R134. Your's has Freon. 5- I replaced the computer on mine with a modern aftermarket fuel delivery system, so I have no idea on this. 6- Cruise is nice on a long trip. You will have to decide how much a cramped leg is worth ( just kiddin'). I'd try it without the cruise working. I installed a new cruise system on mine, ran about $300 as I recall. I installed it. Still doesn't work. I will check it out someday. 7- G to an RV sales and service. Hope this helps. John
  8. Howdy Lance... I was reading your post about the OD. On my '86 Sunrader, when the dash lights " ON" the OD is " OFF" . Now, why it is this way is anyones' guess. But give the OD a try with the light off and see what happens.
  9. Welll, it's time to hit the road. The wife and I are heading out on a circle route trip. Going to Fort Wayne , Indiana for a day or so, then down to the Smokies for two and a half weeks. Then we're heading North to Pennsylvannnia for a few days, then home in time to hack down the jungle that once was my lawn before we left. You folks keep massagin' them Toys while we're gone. Ketch'a all in 3 weeks or so. God bless.
  10. Howdy folks ! Anyone out there ever put an exhaust gas temperature guage on one of these motorhomes? I fried an exhaust header last year, and the fella that sold me the header told me I was probably running close to 1700 degrees F.to do that. Asked me what a/f ratio I was running and I told him 13 to 1.I bought an exhaust gas temp guage, and it showed that the engine under accelleration would go to 1800 degrees F. He sold me a heavy duty manifold to replace the old one, and said when I got it all together to take my readings from the computer and send them to him to check out. I did so and he made several reccomendations to get rid of the heat. I set them there and it still would walk up to 1600 or so. More tweaking ensued , but I stilll will go up to 1500 -1600 degrees or so under load. Heck, driving along at 2500-2750 r.p.m. on a flat road, with NO boost, this unit will show 1250 degrees F. I'm starting to think this amount of heat is normal. Anyone had some experience with exhaust gas temps? UPDATE... Got it fixed. Knock sensor was reading a very tiny, light piston slap as pre-ignition on acceleration. It would back out timing to where the exhaust gas temp would rise. Disconnected the knock sensor and the temp dropped. Checked out the piston slap with a race mechanic, he said that it was so minor that it probably could wait till fall to repair. So, I'll keep a eye on it and replace the pistons after this summer.
  11. COME ON BABY LIGHT MY FIRE COME ON BABY LIGHT MY FIRE lightmyfire, lightmyfire, lightmyfire, lightmyfire, ohohohhh lightmyfire I feel ashamed of myself...
  12. Howdy toyotavan Check this site out, http://replacementparts.engineautoparts.co...mp;make_code=TO hope it helps
  13. Howdy Shandamac. If you can play the fiddle as well as you spin a tale, your a lock for some kinda award. As to your MH, sounds like you made a real find. Welcome to the " Save the Toys" movement. Orange shag, huh? Gad !
  14. Howdy Chairman Cat.. Give this site a try. http://www.gasrefrigeration.net/faultdiagnosis.htm Hope it helps.
  15. Howdy.. Check to see if your choke is working. If that is working, check out the fuel pump. Could be allowing the fuel to drain back into the tank. Also check to see if your battery is fully charged. I found out the hard way that a low battery will only crank the engine leaving only minimal voltage capacity for the ignition.
  16. If you need some straps to hold the tank in, try getting gas tank straps from an auto supply store.
  17. I'm not to clear on your concept here. You want to double your waste capacity, right? By putting a "T" in the clean out pipe ? It would work if it was vented. What I would do is install a "T" in the vent pipe for the present tank and connect it to the vent in your new tank. Is this what you had in mind ?
  18. Howdy Pup... I think AAA would do ya fine.
  19. Found these... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...inSpeedRating=R Here also https://www.tiresbyweb.com/Tiresearchadv.as...submittire.y=14
  20. Howdy huxz... You may be able to use a small grinder and grind off the head of the bolts from inside the vehicle.Pull the chair and do the work you need to do. I come from the " Quick and Dirty" school of " Git 'er done! "
  21. Howdy... I will have to dissagree with Greg. I bypassed the leaking proportional valve on my rig and the braking improved. There is so much weight on the rear wheels that the valve actually is not needed. After bypassing mine, I took it out on a gravel road and at about 45 miles per hour, hit the brakes. The Toy stopped in a straight line with no adverse effects. I am well preased with the results.
  22. Howdy Vicky and John I have to remove the stove burner grates to quiet my stove down.Water tanks usually have a drain faucette near the bottom of the water tank.I can fill mine from the side of the motorhome. Be sure to put in a couple gallons of water/chlorine bleach mix and drive the unit around for a few miles. Then run the mix out the water faucettes and drain the tank. This gets rid of bacteria that may have moved in and settled down. Flush with clear water for a while to get rid ofthe chlorine and you'll be good to go.
  23. At the top of this forum page ( Engine , trans, suspension..etc.) are three subjects that are pinned. These pins are also called stickies by some. There is one on tranny overhauls, one on engine/tranny swaps, and another one I can't think of the title. The are the first things you see.. I'lll try a link http://www.toyotamotorhome.org/forums/inde...p?showtopic=413 hope it works for ya...
  24. Check the sticky at the top of the page. Probably tell ya something in there.
  25. Well ! I think I have finally found proof as to why some of us flail away at resurrecting these ol' Toys. I received a new RV mag today and found that a company is selling, factory direct, 21 foot motorhomes( good for 2 people !) for a lowdown price of $77.777 ! And I thought I was nuts for spending a total of 14 grand for the motorhome plus upgrades !
