  1. I saw with interest the post a few threads down about the paint job done on a Yota MH. I thought that maybe it was time to get rid of the Beige thingy from the mid 80's and bring the appearance in line with the 21st century. In this vein, I decided to go the route of the popular tv show that makes over semi tractors and touch base with my inner Picasso. This is my first attempt at the photoshop thingy, trying to get an idea of what my efforts would produce. I would like to get you folks input on my efforts.
  2. Try a tent heater. We used one to take the chill off in the Smokeys when we used the camper without knowing how to set up the furnace . About 60 bucks anywhere. 1 pound propane bottles in a six pack. Take it out in the summer.. Now we use the furnace. Old bones like heat.
  3. Check your trans shift cable adjustment. Open the throttle wide open, then look down where the bracket comes off the throttle body. There is a small sleeve on the trans cable that should be beyond the rubber boot about 1 mm. That's about a strong 1/32 of an inch in real measurement. If it isn't at that point, adjust the cable using the two nuts on the bracket that surrond the cable to adjust. Hope this helps. John
  4. I read your initial post. Didn't have a clue as to what to say. I was raised with the belief that if you don't have the answer to a question, keep your mouth shut. I did.
  5. Beehaven.. You said quote," Sounds like a winning idea. Have I said thank you enough? " And I say if you give me a cake, preferably chocolate, with "Thank You" decorated on it, I will say it's enough. John
  6. May I make a suggestion here ? Go on the web to All Data and creat an account for your vehicle. They have every wiring diagram, diagnostic aids, part numbers, service bulletins, parts cost and labor times. Well worth the money. John
  7. Howdy Robert... What I would do is take it to a body shop and get an estimate. A solid estimate would be more informative to you than the guestimates your doing now. Maybe some of the bent parts can be bumped and straightened out. Get more info , Sir. That way you can make a better decision.
  8. Howdy EZ... Bumper to bumper, or, in other words, overall length.
  9. Hey Mikey... Check out all the lights. I helped a friend find a draw on his RV a few years back, and they had left a light on in the closet.
  10. Howdy Strassy... Did you mention TURBOCHARGER ??? I put one on my 22 REC.It is gas, but I would imagine that your Diesel would be similar. A turbo packs in more air, so I had to increase the fuel delivery to avoid a lean condition resulting in an overheated engine. I had to also install a fuel/air ratio meter to monitor the exhaust so I could set up the fuel delivery for best power. And an exhaust temp guage to arrive at a good temp to keep things fairly cool. I found this out after I fried an exhast header. You do get more power, but you have to re-engineer the unit accordingly. Hope this helps. John
  11. Howdy Mike.. I have seen batteries with an internal short go dead, but not very often. Try disconnecting the battery positive post cable and connecting a 12 volt test light between the positive cable end and the batterys' positive post. If you have a draw, the test light will light. If it lights, start pulling fuses until the light goes out. The light going out tells you that circuit has a draw. Hope this helps. John
  12. Howdy All... Got to thinking about how many folks come here with questions about a new to them RV . Where to find parts for these oldies but goodies is a common question. I am going to post a link to an RV Supply that seems to cover a lot of the parts and accessories folks look for. http://www.tweetys.com/locksandlatches.aspx?page=2 Anyone else out there want to add to this.
  13. Well, Ratz... Give this one a go then. http://www.tweetys.com/locksandlatches.aspx?page=2 Scroll down a bit...Once again, hope it helps.
  14. Howdy rockrick Try this site http://www.olywa.net/singletonsrv/parts.html hope it helps.
  15. To all you contributors... CLAP-CLAP-CLAP-CLAP WOOT-WOOT WOOT-WOOOT Hack-hack-hack-hack-cough-gasp-wheeze-cough... Man ! Getting to OLD to do that... where's my inhaler... Whoooo John
  16. Yo Baja... I would wake up and be content. Ya got it made , man. Runs great, 20+ mpg, 80k on the engine and has a nice , live with it cab interior. I go with a spare for the front wheels. Dual wheels on each side, if one goes flat you still have one good tire to make it to a repair station to have the flat fixed. Front have no options like this. Sounds to me , you're making things a little complicated for yourself. You went basic on the interior, don't go all out on the exterior. Your " Keep it Basic" approach showed me what a person really needs in an RV. Leave the RV alone and whack something up between the other two, like maybe a Turbo on the short bed... with chrome pipes coming out of the hood... and raised suspension... how about a rock crawler ???
  17. I would pass . It's been modified, you would have to modify it some more to get what you want. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Sentimental value does count for something, but 2800 bucks ???
  18. Hey Bajadulce... Glad your back, Dude ! Use PM ? No, no,no ! I like reading your thread. Must be one of the longest ones on this site. Your creative , outside the box, ideas on what to do to a Toyota motorhome acts as a potting soil to ideas in other folks here, me being one of them. Don't let the cobwebs on the replies to your post deter you! New approaches to spiffin' up mans' gift to to the RV world are greatly accepted. YOUR INTERIOR IDEAS ROCK ! Btw, iffen ya ever want to Turbo-ize that sucker, I'll hug ya ! John
  19. Howdy Sgtmike... Yum !!! Pitch the rice and I'll be over> John.
  20. Howdy Kelleys... 19 MILES PER GALLON ! GAD ! I will now go look into a mirror to see what envy looks like. I will then sulk with only a few amber ales for company. John Boeve
  21. Sounds to me Gypsy that maybe finding someone around your place who has a handle on basic vehicle wiring is the way to go. An auto tech student would probably of some help. Here's an idea, check out your local high school and ask the Auto Tech instructor if he could have his class check the Toys' wiring out.The students get hands on experience, and you get it checked out for probably little to no cost. Hope this helps John Boeve
  22. Howdy Greg... Weird. I donated this morning via Paypal. You said you didn't get it. I just checked my Paypal account, and they said the donation was unclaimed. I said "Rats", and cancelled the transaction. I then checked the donation thingy again, they had recorded the cancellation. Sooooo, I just now donated again, this time I guess it went through.. Just my way of saying Thanks for the site. By the way, sell the dog, not the Turbo... Just kidding John Boeve
  23. Howdy Shanda... You left it OFF? Ok. Guess it'll work, but these things have such a high roll center, I myself, believe in "Stability above All" , and would have a sway bar. Helps with the lean on corners and side winds. If you watch your speed on corners and such, a sway bar is just extra weight, BUT, what if ya have to change lanes quickly or misjudge your speed going into a corner ? I'd be bitting chunks otta the seat, but if not having one works for you, more power to ya !
  24. Howdy Mike... Ahh yes, cone washers. Aren't they fun? I use a cold chisel with just one face on the chisel ground down to about a 45 degree angle. Notice I said ONE side. Most chisels have two faces so that the cross section of the chisel lookes like a house roof. We want a single slope of the chisel. Put the chisel on the side of the cone washer with the flat side of the chisel against the axle face. Gently tap the chisel with a hammer. This will spring the cone washer and pop it out of the hole. I have also read that putting a small diameter deep socket over the stud and tapping the socket with a hammer lightly, willl pop the cone washer loose. I use RTV gasket maker instead of the paper gasket. Hope this helps John
