  1. congrats on the best purchase youll make. sounds like your well on your way to fixin her/him up! Any picts of rebuild wetboy? I'm rebuilding my Shasta and would like to see other rebuilds.
  2. After new butyl tape installed and caulked over exposed tape edge i still have leak from window. Maybe my weep holes are clogged. Water builds up in bottom of a side sliding window and then drips over trim down walls. Top window has new gasket installed as well. Bottom one doesn't have any gasket.Any suggs to stop leak?
  3. Were the dings from the ignition or engine bay? I was thinking the battery isolator could be cause of clicking ding sound
  4. I too was happy at the ease of which it cut using a jig saw with plain wood blade. Thanks
  5. Sorry no help but I also need to seal my roof. Was thinking dyco 20/20 seam sealant which is "brush-on liquid, white rubber sealant..." I dont need to cover seams but entire roof. The 20/20 says it can be used on fiberglass. Dyco 890 is "solvent-based rubber copolymer coating sets in 30-60min,but is used on metal roofs. GD
  6. I epoxied 12 Sq yards of 20 oz cloth to epoxied plywood roof of Shasta. Some bubbles but happy with results. My question is what should i prime new epoxy with and finish paint. Would like to use topside boat paint but dont want to part with $s for it. ANy suggs.
  7. how many miles ssong on the older one. go!go!
  8. Thats not much of a description but id say its worth it.Cab AC?rear ac? power steering?22r?or 22re?genny?hot water?how many batteries?good tires? rear dinnette? full bath?hows roof condition?ask if you can walk on it.
  9. 3m 5200 IS NOT PERMANENT. They now sell a release for it. And if applied correctly WILL NOT LEAK. Guaranteed! I am all for fixing problem but if there aint, dont fix it. maybe something from the road hit cab and made crack.
  10. Your pict is oversized and hard to view you might try resize image. Its not an easy fix because the crack is at a joint of 2 panels. You could remove corner molding and patch area with some polester resin and fiberglass cloth. Then reinstall molding. But those moldings are somewhat delicate due to the curve just try not to bend molding if you remove. Another option is remove as much of the old sealant around corner molding as you can. Clean area with acetone then apply 3M 5200 {available at Depot and boating supply, comes in caulking tube $10-15} to cracked area. 5200 is a marine product, waterproof,"thru the hull fittings" and will make watertight. Takes 5 days to cure. Good luck
  11. My rear window has 3 panes. the center opens and is plexi as well. seabreezer is right, the opening one being plexi makes sense. NEver thought.I just resealed my windows with butyl tape but the PO put caulk or something on the interior of glass where it touches metal. Anyone take window apart and rebed the glass to the frame? I'm slowly replacing the shrunken exterior gasket on the windows as well. I Hope replacing gasket as well rebedding keeps water out! GD
  12. Nice job, looks great! You just gave me some inspiration.
  13. Think ive asked before but. Just about ready to install new FRP on bath wall but need to rip a couple inches off the entire lenth. Has anyone used table saw to cut it? I just have a wood cutting blade on table saw. Thanks for any firsthand input...
  14. Went up to Vt for a music fest and the Mirage performed perfectly. Was very happy to camp near 2 other Toys. My GPS told me my speedo is off 5mph. Pushed her a little bit trying to maintain 65-70 which made for a 5 1/2 hour ride.Hit 85mph going down some mt. Dont remember when i did that. Changed oil and plugs before departing trip hoping to get better mpg but havnt checked yet. Lost some gas after filling up and parking on a tilt leaning toward tank. Came out after breakfast to see gas on ground. Still havnt gotten round to fixing. Also had person tell me my rear bad 5lug wheel is wobbling. Just clocked 147000 miles. Good as new! Ha! Great RVing!
  15. Could the ignition coil wire have popped off? It happend on my car a year ago. Parked it and when came out wont start. Couldn't figure it out cause it had just been running and everthing worked, till my passenger plugged it back in. Just a thought. GL
  16. My Mirage has 147,000 miles, but i had to change engine after buying it. The engine had a crack in it and it had 80k on it. Dont know why engine cracked but probably from no oil in engine or put water instead of antifreeze. I have a lot of faith in the 22re and many others praise it. I wouldn't be dissuaded by it having 85k and you should be able to put another 100k on it. Many people from South America & the islands swear by these 22re's as reliability is everything where parts and $ are hard to come by.
  17. "Finally, you'll soon discover that there really isn't much 'structure' in these! Certainly not like I'm used to finding. I'm new to motorhomes in general and am constantly amazed that these don't self-destruct when an 18-wheeler goes past at 70mph in the opposite direction!" HA couldn't agree more. There is no framing in these Rvs! If you want you could take out windows and scrape old stuff off rebed with butyl tape. Not much of a job just do one at a time.if you cant smell mold dont be worried and a llittle bulge wont hurt.
  18. All right, another member! $1g is a fair price. Floor shouldn't be to bad. Low miles too. XTra 4 gs will come handy. If you dont need to remove cabinets and etc to replace the floor it'll go quicker. Just find the depth of your floor by slowly cutting little section out and set your saw to floor depth. If you dont mind a little sag just build roof up if needed and then lay your roof membrane. Go for it. Post photos when you get it
  19. Dont know how seabrezze is constructed but my 86 shasta was made of filon [corrugated fiberglass sheets] that were not mechanically fastened to coach. The interior of filon has rigid blue insulation contact cemented to it then the paneling you see cemented to insulation. Like a sandwich. And then there are metal moldings at corners and bottom and roof tying everything together. I guess my general question is: how are the fiberglass siding sheets attached to the vehicle? Since I don't see any holes, I'm guessing it's just glued, but there might be tabs on the inner side. I read somewhere that there shouldn't be any "give" when the panels are pushed, otherwise it indicates water got into the wall and caused the panel to separate from the wall structure. How are the walls constructed? The give you feel is the insulation has become unglued from filon siding. Not a big deal in itself but someone probably made a repair in affected area. Did they replace some of the interior siding? If so they may have pulled to hard on interior siding to remove and pulled the insulation away from filon.Hows the roof? There are no creases on this Sea Breeze, but since the panel isn't solid, should I be concerned that it will soon fail? Or is it an indication that water got back there and I may have a hidden mold problem? There are windows above the bulging area, but they've been resealed with caulk (apparently not with butyl tape). Water penetration is the ruin of these rvs. Ask if he can shoot hose at rv while your inside. If you want to see how these are constructed look at burnt shasta post below.
  20. Look around maybe you can find one in better shape. Sounds like a lot of work. If it was only floor well thats one thing but you mentioned sagging roof also. Hows the interior siding? Take an ice pick/awl/or screwdriver and poke around the rv. Especially around the seams, roof line and bed over cab. If you want a litttle insite as to what rebuilding one entails read the below thread "burnt shasta" Im slowly rebuilding shasta. Roof, walls, floor, cabinets lot of work good luck!
  21. cant say ive had em but try an aerosol flea bomb. Stink like oooo but'll do the job. So I may be paranoid, but I just took a nap in my chinook and was a bit itchy. Has anyone ever had fleas in their chinook/toyota rig? If so, how'd you get rid of them? This could possibly be my worst nightmare. It might be the only thing capable of bringing down my chinook other than rust. Thanks, George
  22. i'm not mechanically inclined in any way but had similar issue long time ago. my mechanic put in in different temp thermostat maybe not even for 22re and problem solved.
  23. sorry no help but hey nice rv. love the floor but love the custom bunk more!
  24. Thanks for reply. couple more ?s Did you reuse sheetmetal? how did you attach plywood to camper? Did you tie ply into bottom of door frame?i currently have large hole where i removed sheetmetal box. I am tired of the large step from ground to floor of rv. thanks for a step up!
  25. i would do option c except use stainless screws. If i had skill proboadobly due a mold but dont know notin bout dat
