  1. That looks really nice. I was thinking about laying the floor length wise and not width wise. Anyway, you just laid it right over the carpet... any problems with that? That seems like the super easy way to do business. Then if you don't like it in the future, juct pull it out and you're back to normal. Anything you would have done different?
  2. Dolphin owners, I'm thinking about installing some laminate throughout my RV. I have some specific questions for anybody that has done it: 1) How did you do it in the bathroom around the toilet? 2) What did you do with the captains chair (if you had one)? 3) what about where the tables go into the floor? Did you place the metal piece on top of the laminate or carve the laminate around it? 4) How did you do the stairs... anything special? 5) Did you put some quarter round for trim? or did you use something else? Well that's a start for now. If you have any pictures I would love to see them!
  3. I had my 1990 checked and Toyota told me mine had never had it done and there were no outstanding recalls on it. Simply put, it didn't apply.
  4. Hi Rich, I agree with the other guys (that already posted) and believe all toyotas will need work within the near future. That being said, I have a low mileage 1990 and it has been very trouble free. I guess it all depends what you consider a "project" is. If you define that as caulking some seams or fixing a heater, then any motor home will probably be too much as they all require some level of maintenance, and just like a house things break. I have a friend who just bought a brand spanking new trailer with slide out and all the bells and whistles and they have all kinds of stuff falling off and breaking. Theirs is, however, covered under warranty. So my point unless you have a warranty be prepared for some amount of work. That's just RV'n for you. Best of luck on your search. If you consider something other than toyota, take a good look at the Lazy Daze Kevin
  5. Allen, I see your issue. You're thinking about that lower right hand corner. You're going to have to either look around for something that you can mount under that piece of molding or be willing to shave a bit of it off. Either way, however, is fairly straight forward.
  6. Just put a new radio in my Dolphin about a month ago. I didn't want to spend a whole lot, but want bluetooth and ended up buying this one through amazon for $90 plus shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Phase-Linear-BT1611i-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B001GQ36Z8/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=IJDHQ52V808JG&colid=34U2DUVBL4G38 Then I went down to kragens and bought an adapter. The adapter was about $11 and I still had a fiddle with it to get it to work. My Dolphin had a metal adapter for the old radio, but it didn't work for the new, thus the need for a new one (new one is a single DIN). The whole process was fairly easy. I found some instructions after searching the internet for a while which was very useful.. here's the link http://www.installdr.com/ Hope that helps. Best of Luck!
  7. I live in California and had the same question. I did a little research and I am still lost to this day, because of how the laws are written. I only have one child (sweet two year old), and I usually travel with her up front in her car seat. That is, she rides in the passenger seat up front. I know the front isn't ideal, but that's where you put them if there is no place in the back. If you don't have a front facing seat, then they go either up front or the best you can do in the back. Somebody opined about collisions where a person is wearing a seatbelt on a side facing seat... he/she was right. If you look at any car seat, they are only to be mounted in a forward or rear facing seat. So as far as the law goes, maybe the youngest up front (in the car seat) and the other ones in the back however they are comfortable. That's my two cents on the situation. Please let us know what you decided.
  8. I paid 5k for mine that had 23K miles on it earlier this year. Some things to keep in mind when you are looking at it (that I didn't when I bought mine). Does it come with a generator? If not they can be really pricey especially, if you're looking for a built in one. Does it have an awning? Those cost 700 or so and up. Does it have newer tires (note: I didn't say good tires.... New is the key) New tires will run you 650ish and up. Those are just a few things to consider when you're looking for one. I don't think the head gasket issue is much of an issue at all. If it hasn't been done contact Toyota and tell them to do it. It's that simple. As far as miles go, I have seen plant of them for sale with 100K + miles on them. It seem the ones that have more than 120K or so usally have had a new engine, transmission, or something major done to them. Hope this help and good luck in your search for a perfect RV.
  9. Funny you should be posting this right now... I just had to troubleshoot mine yesterday. Does it not turn on at all? What brand and model furnace do you have? If you have a hydro flame 79 series I can help you out.
  10. Just checked my AC and it's a 13,500 btu model. As far as I know, that was stock for the Dolphin and Sea Breeze models for 1990. So like I said in the original post, I would really like to get a portable generator (NOT the built in ones, just in case I want to use it for other projects). So you guys think a 2500 watt gen will be able to power the AC but nothing else... Anyone tried it?
  11. I've used this stuff called Durabak in the past, however, I did not use it to paint the roof of an RV. YOu can put it on yourself with a special roller, and can buy it in numerous colors including white (which happens to be the color I used before). Durabak is also available in either smooth or textured (with tiny rubber pieces). If you decide to use it, always use the recommended primer.
  12. I need some help. I'm looking at buying a portable generator for my 1990 Dolphin V-6 and was curious to know what other people are using. I would like something big enough to power the Air Conditioner if possible. Does anybody know if the Honda 2000 is big enough for a typical rooftop AC setup? Please let me know what you're using and if it is large/small enough to meet your needs.
  13. I was considering upgrading my audio visual system (actually that means get one). I was thinking about replacing the radio with a DVD receiver, then adding a flat panel somewhere in the back, and also have a backup camera attached. My idea was to run everything off the RV Battery and not the truck’s battery. Anybody out there have any experience with any of this? Would love to hear some suggestions from people you have already doe this. BTW my Toy is a 1990 Dolphin V-6
