  1. Air bags if there will look like 2 fat rubber doughnuts or a large rubber tube directly above the rear axle on each side. You should be able to see them even if they are deflated. Look for the fill valves too. Look just like tire valves. Follow air hose from bags to outlet. Axles can be found at car-part.com http://www.car-part.com/ Don't put in your year. Put in any year from 86 to 92 rear axle and housing dual wheels. 2wd Even though any of those years will work it's best to try all of them because they don't list them all together. Easier to find one closer. You need to find the dual wheels too and you can use the same site. LS
  2. What you have is a Sprint motorhome made by General RV. They are super nice. When General went out of business very close to the time yours was made they sold their fiberglass molds to new Horizon which renamed it the Nova Star. Slight differences in the windows and I don't know what your interior looks like. The Nova Stars are known for their ultra nice teak interiors. Price of course depends on condition. If yours was mint I'd guess best case senario would be 5 to 6 grand. The only other ones I've seen have been on a Nissan chassis. If yours is a Toyota it needs to have the full float axle upgrade to be worth that much. LS
  3. Since I know custom work is your business there are quite a few Sunrader 4x4's out there that still have 14 inch wheels in back and 15 on the front. Another alternative to buying all new custom wheels in the back would be a great resource. If you like the results of yours it might be a good idea to offer them to others. I have suggested Sprinter wheels in the past but your the first person who took me up on it. By the way there are a numer of adapter companies out there that will make adapters to your specs. The old Dodge power wagons, the m715's and 53 to 66 ford f350's all use a 6x7.25 lug pattern to so they are in the same boat. I didn't suggest you use wheels from these though because they are either split rims or locking rim widowmakers. Also they are too wide to ever fit the duallies in a Sunrader. Post pics when your done LS
  4. $4500 is a good price already. Any you can bargain down from that is just a bonus. Please check the appliances though. They can be pricey repairs especially the fridge Cooling units you can replace but the parts are still 400 plus. Water heater and furnace can be costly also. Escapers are nice aluminum frame coaches LS
  5. Lug pattern on the Sprinter wheels is 6x205 and the center hub is very large. I don't think there is room to drlll a smaller lug pattern which is why I suggested adapters Look here. No room for smaller. These are 15's but lug pattern is same on 16's http://shop.wheelsexpressonline.com/15-SPRINTER-DUAL-WHEEL-15-SPRINTER-DUAL.htm LS
  6. Some Dodge Sprinters come with dual wheels in 15 or 16 inch wheels. The 16 inch is on the 2007 and newer ones. They have a large center hub opening and even a larger lug pattern than the Toyota full floater. All you would need are 2 adapters to fit to the Sunrader. This place in Texas has some. Says call for price http://broncosalvage.com/default.aspx LS
  7. Kind of depends on where you are but lowest prices I've seen are from PPL motorhome parts in Texas, Google it, even paying the shipping. If your fridge is still in good shape otherwise look into getting a new cooling unit. Cost about half the price and last or years. I had my cooling unit replaced almost 7 years ago and still works fine, LS
  8. I would stick with a conventional rv furnace. On a Sunrader they would have been ducted. You should still have the small vents scattered around your rv unless it was gutted. I replaced my duct work with heavy duty dryer vents. Looked exactly like the original ones I removed because they were so dirty. In Carthage, Mo is one of the largest RV salvage yards in the country. Seems like you need a bunch of stuff so your in luck there. At least your in the same state. Might have the stove you need too http://www.colawrvsalvage.com/ For the furnace to find one that fits I would look at the smaller trailers. Most motorhomes now are so big the furnace would be too. So big truck campers or small trailers would be the right place to look .The furnace in both of my Sunraders is a Hydro Flame 8500 series. The salvage yard should know what will fit in that space LS
  9. You need to replace the entire line. It is not legal to have patched lines inside the RV. Be safe and do it right LS
  10. I don't know of anyone going that low but I found a pressure/ load chart for tires and the numbers look right. A 35% reduction in load for the front and a 24% reduction in the back with the lower pressures. I'm wondering if there are other things were not considering though. I run my fronts at 50 and my rear at 55 but I have a light 5000lb Sunrader. The wear on the tires looks perfectly even. Hope someone else posts and gives you other factors that might affect tire performance and safety. Got a feeling that their must be some cause at that pressure we could be running car tires and none of us do and were told repeatedly it's dangerous LS
  11. Mallard is a very well known RV maker that was in business until 1992. They made trailers and motorhomes but I have never seen one on a Toyota Checked NADA and Kelly Blue Book too and no record of one on a Toyota. Possible they made just a few for RV shows to see if there was interest and your friend ended up with one. An 87 makes it axle safe. Only the 85 and older had problems. Hope when you buy it you post some pictures. LS
  12. No Sunraders I know of came with a single rear wheel. Does the center hub of the rear wheel stick out about the size of a 1 quart bowl? Is yours a 4x4? They have dual wheels usually but no large center hub. Can you post a picture? Did you just buy this on Ebay? PM me if so have much to tell you Linda S
  13. Toyota didn't build motorhomes. They only built the cab and chassis that was purchased by motorhome manufacturers. The owner of Gardner Pacific who made the Sunrader was known for his innovative designs long before the Sunrader. He designed the Amerigo campers and trailers and many others. I'm pretty sure he designed the first 2 story mobile home too. Sunrader is not the only all fiberglass motorhome though from that era. There is the Mirage, the Chinook Omega, and other ones I have seen are the Viva and Funcraft. Checked on the 5 speed and yes the 22re was available with a 5 speed but some years it was only available on the Turbo. To my knowledge they didn't put them on the cab and chassis's used for the motorhomes but there is probably no reason you couldn't switch them out. 5 speeds were available on some of the v6 motorhomes but not many LS
  14. See if there is anything here you can use. Rv suppliers will have the abs you need and you can peice it together if you can't find the correct shape. http://www.tjtrailers.com/store/abs-fittings-and-pipe.html Lots of these fittings clearly say 1 1/4. Hope there is something you can use. LS
  15. I live not too far from the place that makes the replacement windows. They are 375 installed so no extra charge for gasket. Also it's the former plant manager not the owner of the Sunrader company who is making them. Still a lot of money and it's on the west coast. I think you said you were in the mid-west. Can't hurt to have another source. I also need some front windows and I am going to make them myself. I looked into lexan but it seems to scratch easier than plexiglass. I don't know about plexiglass being junk. My Toyota Sunrader has the original windows from 1986 and they still look great. I need windows for my Nissan Sunrader which took a hit hard enough in the front to gouge the fiberglass shell. The window is still in place but the corner is gone. The other side looks like a bullet hole and there is only slight cracking around it. Is there some treatment you can do to make Lexan scratch less cause I don't think I would be happy with a window all scratched up in a few years. LS
  16. OMG I was told the son sold the business at Stockton Wheel but I was wrong. He killed himself. That's why the business closed. What a horrible shame. LS
  17. They'll fit fine and can carry the load but they're kind of pricey when you don't need an all terrain tire. I'm assuming your Sunrader's not a 4x4 cause they are 14 inch tires. The more aggressive tread of the all terrain tire will cut into your mileage too. Truth is they are probably what I need on my Sunrader. I seem to think it's a Unimog in disguise LS
  18. Stockton wheel is gone Greg. The old guy died and his son who was in charge of all the custom work sold the business. The website is still there but if you noticed you can't click on anything to see whats available. Have no idea what the new people are going to carry or if they are going to do custom work anymore. A friend had an order in for custom duallies for his Sunrader 4x4 at the time of the change over and got a call that they wouldn't be making them anymore. Custom and commercial is the only place I know of now LS
  19. No they are quite unique. The wide lug spacing is to accomidate the large center hole for the full floating hub. You would have to look into an adapter for a ford or other dually wheel type. They I believe are all 8 lug but your going to have to jack that motorhome something fierce to get them to fit in there. There is a company called Custom and Commercial Wheel in southern California that makes custom 15 inch duallies for the 4x4's that have been converted to full floaters. They charge about 180 each for them. Have no idea what they would charge for bigger or if they even would be willing. http://www.customcommercialwheel.com/ LS
  20. Your windows need to be removed and resealed with butyl tape. You can find it on ebay, I got the white for mine. it's not that hard. You unscrew from inside and pry the window off carefully. Scrape it clean and then apply butyl tape to the window edge and press in to the hole. Have someone hold the outside in place and go inside and screw the interior frame back into place. Silicone seal just around the outside is not good enough. LS
  21. All the 1 ton duallies are essentially the same but on an 83 your going to need some extra work on the brake lines and I believe Shock mounts need to be moved. The ad posted is your best case scenario because they have the whells and everything you will need. This is going to be expensive though so be prepared. LS
  22. Towing is not really recomended for any Toyota motorhome . That said I have seen a v6 model that towed a Smart car, 1600lbs, with no problems. It was a Sunrader though and they have very strong frame extensions. I also know another Sunrader owner who towed a 1000lb trailer but an 18ft one so his motorhome weighed much less than a 21 foot conventionally built one. 1500 lbs is probably pushing the limits of that engine and you need to look at your frame extensions. Different makers used different ones and some are stronger than others. LS
  23. I know someone who used the front range kit but they had to upgrade their axle from 84 to 86 to use it. Much easier to just find a toyota full floater from a junk yard. www.car-part.com is the place to look. Make sure you look for 86 and up because older might still be the old bad axle. I believe there is still some shock attachment welding that has to be done and brake line work LS
  24. OK another member sent me a link to the site your talking about and the only Toyota motorhome I see mentioned is the Sunrader on Earl. That is a crazy huge database. I can't imagine getting enough Toyota motorhome fans into watching that much tv I think most of us would rather be off in the woods somewhere. LS
  25. The owner of toyota-campers group on yahoo used to own one. It's the only one I've ever heard of so it might be the one he used to own that your talking about He is on this group too from time to time but if you join the yahoo group you will hear from him right away. He loved that little thing, I'm sure he'd love to talk to you. Turtle Mike is his name http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/toyota-campers/ LS
