  1. My 87 22re rig automatic trany made it up to Flagstaff AZ which is 7000 ft above sea level then each morning for 4 days we took it up to Snowbowl, 9500 ft above sea level. The last couple miles were switchback and we often went down to 2 then 1st gear and had a line of pissed off snowboarders behind us in fancy SUV but we made it fine. It ain't fast but it made it up and back. not something i would do every day so I think your east coast stuff isn't nearly as high. Good luck.
  2. Hmm that is helpful as my backup lights don't work I just found out. I don't usually back up at all if I can help but the other night I had too and I was told no back up lights. I will use this to see what the hell is going back there. thx
  3. YEAH THX I shouldve looked before I asked. I will check out tomorrow as they are closed today. Sure hope it works. I had no mice problems in Arizona all winter but I did keep lights on at night under the rig to deter pack rats?not sure it is an issue but I saw lotsa folks doing it so rather than find out the hard way I just copied the big dogs.
  4. cannot buy it in Canada of course. what is canadian brand? thx
  5. The problems with upgrading. Pays to not upgrade in my mind. Just like our rigs.Keep the old stuff running as it is better than the new. Haha. Good luck
  6. my r22e had OD stop coming through Big Springs Texas last fall. Stopped working all the way to Tuscon AZ which was ok cause it was lots of hard climbing for the wee beast. I read the shop manual and tried to figure it out and saw something about a sensor needing the right temperate. I checked my rad and it was low so I add a quart of water and when I ran up to Phoenix it worked fine. The light was on indicating the OD was off but it was not in OD despite that. Good luck. BTW it only works in OD while yep you heard it here 'going down hill, with good tailwind, or in my case if I can sneak in behind a slow moving tractor trailor and piggyback despite the buffeting.' I drove it from Phoenix to San Diego and back this xmas and it worked fine but with above caveats for OD
  7. I added water to my radiaotor as it was low and the manual said the sensor or a sensor had to reach certain temp as in hotter for the OD to kick in and so it worked from Tuscon oer to Phoenix and all way to San Diego and back to Phoenix, well not up hill but downhill and on flat road with tailwind. 60-65 had to add transmission fluid in Palm Spring on new years day there was a small leak and I guess it just got low. All good now.
  8. Left Chicago area Monday morning at 4 Am and arrived in Tuscon 8 PM Weds nite. Drove down to Memphis>Dallas>el Paso (or as I call it NO paso) then right across New Mexico battling a strong headwind until I dropped down to Tuscon. Left Oct 29/18 Tried to use ethanol free gas which I got at a few Walmart stations but it didn't seem to matter as price was higher. Only problems were: 1- wicked winds in Dallas ripped some trim off and at Big Spring Texas lost overdrive but didnt need it the rest of the trip into big hills. I later fiddled around and noticed the rad was low so added some water and then the OD worked fine all the way to Apache Junction where I stayed for 3 weeks before flying back to Chitown. Iil Rig is in storage until I get back thee in xmas time for a tour over to Salton sea. Hope she rests well. Everybody passed me even a burro but i passed them at the gas station. Met a Dolphon and anther Toy MH and we were just like family amidst the monster RVs so big and ugly with no character. Lotsa sun for solar in AZ and lots of great hiking. still looking for gold though and peyote too. Cheers
  9. u need mppt controller or u could fry the controller . i did
  10. My 87 r22e mh automatic tranny was working great with overdrive on down side of hills and with good tailwind but it just stopped going though Texas. lil rig got me to arizona in 3rd no problem. just wondering what my options are? like will tranny eventuaqlly die or can i run it without OD? should i take it to transmission guy om Phoenix- any recommendations? thx

  12. Well this certainly raises more questions than I had anticipated but I relish the opinions of you all. Maybe I should put two sensors - one inline and one in the pan and that way I can corner the cat so to speak. While I have your kind attention is there any way to tell what model of automatic transmission I have in the 1987 Toyota motorhome with 22R2 motor and Sumber Queen motorhome. The owners manual is gone but I do have a 3 inch thick shop manual with it.
  13. Wonder if anybody can explain how to add a heating guage sensor to a 87 Toyota 4 speed automatic with overdrive?
  14. I used Gluvit on the seams as it worked on my aluminum boat. My 87 Slumber queen roof looked good but i noticed couple leaks. Hopefully this cured it.
