Sometimes Slowly
Does anybody have experience with what part of the system might have failed? Having a time of it diagnosing the problem - what part to replace. It's a Warrior on a 93 Toyota pick-up. Currently near Lexington, Kentucky - travelling in that area. Thank you in advance. fred heath
Did both Speedo and odometer stop working at the same time? If no speedometer cable but electric sensor it's probably the VSS1 sensor. If odometer still works, it probably in the gage cluster. Your GPS can act as a speedometer until you get it fixed.
Sometimes Slowly
Thank you much. Both quit at the same time.
headchange4u
More than likely it's the speed sensor at the transmission. I work in a Toyota Parts department. Let me know if I can help.
MontanaChinook
I think in 93 it was still a cable. This is actually relatively easy to replace yourself, but also shouldn't be too expensive to have done. Shouldn't be charged for more than an hour labor, I would hope. It's just a long cable in a plastic sleeve. One end is screwed into the transmission, the other end into the back of your instrument cluster, right to the back of the speedometer. MontanaChinook
Any weird noises when it happened, or leading up to it happening? I guess if there was no noise, headchange4u is probably right, it's the little gear at the end of the cable going into the transmission, and not the cable itself. I think if you snapped the cable, you'd hear it.
Sometimes Slowly
Thanks for the help. It was the speed sensor at the transmission - the plastic gear had worn out. Dealer in Lexington got one from CA.
