Refrigerator gas connection gap

So I'm cleaning out the outside Refrigerator bay and I took the all the covers off to clean / inspect. After cleaning I looked at how it works, at the right end of the burner tube are 7 slits halfway down from the top at the other end is, well, nothing. The tube just stops well over an inch from the gas valve. There is what looks like a brass nozzle protuding out from the gas valve, reducing the open gap to the tube to around 5/8 inch. Are they all like that?

The gas pressure in these RV's is low so I'm suprised by this and can only assume it "just works". Is this to add air to the gas before it gets to the burner slits? or am I missing a part?

It seems to work fine and hasn't blown up yet
