bufbooth
Hello, I put on Bilstein front shocks today (type 17) and could not figure out what torque to use or when to stop tightening the top single nut. Regarding the installation hardware, it had two rubber mounts, two large washers, and a single lock nut. The hardware order is: Shock body, washer, rubber mount, truck frame, rubber mount, washer, nut. Just do not want to over tighten / crush the rubber mounts. The bottom of the shock is secured by two 12mm bolts, I torqued those to 15lbs. Thanks, Dennis...
Derek up North
From the 1993 FSM:- 5. INSTALL SHOCK ABSORBER (a.) Install the shock absorber to the lower suspension arm. Torque: 18 N–m (185 kgf –cm, 13 ft–Ibf ) (b.) Install the shock absorber to the upper bracket. Torque: 25 N–m (250 kgf–cm, 18 ft–Ibf) http://personal.utul...buchanan/93fsm/
bufbooth
Hello Derek, does the hardware I listed for Bilstein front shocks sound correct? The old (non-Bilstein) shocks that I removed had four metal washers and two rubber mounts: Shock body, washer, rubber mount, washer truck frame, washer, rubber mount, washer, nut. which is what the service manual shows (guessing for Toyota brand shocks). The Bilstein only had two washers and two rubber mounts: Shock body, washer, rubber mount, truck frame, rubber mount, washer, nut. The washers (cupped) and rubber mounts that I took off the old shocks are smaller, too small to use with the Bilstein rubber mounts. fi
Derek up North
I'd only be guessing. You'd be better off contacting Bilstein. But I guess it's safe to assume Bilstein supplies the 'right stuff'.

Lars1
New 93 Dolphin owner says thanks for the torque settings. I just installed new bilsteins all around yesterday. WOW! What a difference. They are a bit pricey, but so worth it!
Derek up North
Was the Bilstein supplied hardware correct?
stamar
Bilstein is the only thing for sale for the toyhomes. I bought brand new tokico gas a justs and they were very floaty, made for a 3500 pound truck. Other than bilsteins you would need to cut the ends off your shocks and weld them to konis toget something better.
