I guess I am getting ready for the nursing home.

I replaced theengine battery and put it in backwards. In my 65 years I bet I havereplaced 30 batteries in different vehicles and never done this.

I blew the 60 amp thermal link.

Replace it ,she starts and drives ok but will not idle below about 1000 rpm.

I cleaned the rotor ,and cap terminals but no help.

Thought I would post this and ask for help b4 I go any further

It gets better. I forgot to say I have an 84 carb, 4cylinder.

I have said to much already. My father used to say " better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

I guess you got a lot of sparks and never had the key on that is interesting the only thing I can think of if it has a carb one of the vacuum solenoids took a hit and it's leaking vacuum that will bring the idle up. You are sure it has a carb? You are lucky you did not blow the battery up!

Ye it's got a carb. But I don't blame you for asking.

I have aknife switch on the rig that totally disconnects the battery when youare working on it and helps with theft prevention so That was open andI only got sparks when I was done installing the new battery and not atthe battery. ( I was not always an idiot.)

Ok I will get a chance to look at some solenoids tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks

If you put your hand over the carb (not completely) just enough to see if it smooths out if it does you have a vacuum leak some where.

No that did not help. It does not really try to idle. If the rpms get below about 400 or so (Im guessing) It just stalls period. You have to keep your foot on the throttle.

OK here is the deal. It would not idle. You cold drive the rig if you used the old "heal and toe" Tech. Those of you that have driven a non synchro sports car know what I am talking about. Anyway the wife and I where driving over to one of my kids houses and she pointed out that besides feeling like a fool with me revving the engine all the time ,she was freezing her little butt off because the heater fan did not work. Ok I found a blown fuse 7.5 amps for the heater fan and that fixed the idle problem. Can't see on the schmatic what else this feeds but thats it.

Thanks for the help and I hope this helps somebody.

Good find glad you let us know what you found. The only thing I saw in the wiring was a relation to the A/C control and that's tied to the engine ECU.
