You may need to crack the fitting to allow some gas to flow through. If it has sat for a long time with no pressure, you may need to purge the air out. It can take a long time to purge the air out through the pilot orifice.

Crack the pilot tube fitting and see if you have gas pressure comming out when you press the pilot button. If so, and it still will not light, a piece of dust or debris has clogged the pilot orifice and you will need to replace it. An appliance parts store will have a new orifice.

Before I try and start my Frig, Furnace or Water heater, I always light one of the stove burners first. This purges the Propane lines, (at least to the stove).

Put the control valve into "Pilot". use one of those long handle lighters and stick it up into the burner. There are two small tubes entering to the right of the burner. The top one is the thermocouple and the bottom one is the pilot light.

Aim the flame from the lighter at the Pilot.

The pilot should light (Might take 30-60 seconds if this is the first time in a long time). Lightly tap on the valve with the handle of a screwdriver. this can knock loose any debris thats in the line or jamming the valve.

If it still doesn't light, Try this, CAREFULLY.

With the lighter still pointed toward the pilot, turn the valve to "ON", If the Thermocouple is OK, you'll hear a woosh as the burner valve opens and the burner may even light, The woosh may also blow out you lighter.

If there is no source of flame (pilot or your lighter blows out) do not leave the valve in the ON position, it could be dumping unburnt propane into the heater, and you'll get a boom when you strick your lighter.

If the burner lights and stays, tap on the valve to knock loos any debris.

After a minute or so, turn the valve back to pilot and see if the pilot stays lite.

You may need to remove the pilot tube and clean it out (it could be plugged)

The Thermocouple is a safety device. If it doesn't sense heat, it will not allow propane to the burner or the pilot. Thats why you need to keep the lighter in there for about 15 seconds, to heat up the thermocouple.
