Jennifer
Hi everyone. We are looking at a 1992 Toyota Itasca and we are a little nervous since this would be our first motorhome. I've read about the chassis problems, but don't think this is a problem for this year. Is that correct? I do think the head gasket problem applies though and want to see how I find out if it was fixed if the person listing it doesn't know. I have the VIN# so would I just run a general car report or does Toyota have a specific website for this? He is asking $6000, which seems reasonable for this year and about 50,000 miles. There is some water damage in the back bathroom. He says it is minimal, but I need to feel & see it for myself obviously to make sure it isn't completely rotted out. Thanks for any and all help! We really, really like these Toyota motorhomes and want our first purchase to be a good one.
Derek up North
Axle Recall doesn't apply to 1992. Give you VIN to a Stealership Service Department for the head gasket. They can tell you when and if it was done.
Jennifer
Thank you, Derek. I appreciate your time.
Derek up North
For the HG, if they pretend to not know anything about it, it's known as 'Special Service Campaign (V06). And it's NOT expired. SSCs do not expire. Toyota V6 Head Gasket SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN V06.pdf
Jennifer
Oh WOW! This is super great to know! I never would have thought this would be true. THANKS!!!
Derek up North
Please let us know what the Dealer tells you. Also ask if there's any record of the timing belt being changed or the valves adjusted. Both are scheduled at 60k mile intervals.
Thirsty Spirit
Hello- I have a new (to me) 91 Toyota Itasca spirit. I called into Toyota and found out that the head gasket repair was done in 1998. I have done a few drives and noticed some antifreeze and oil leakage from the area around the junction of the motor and transmission. I'm taking it in for a mechanic to check but wondered if anyone here knows about how long those head gasket repairs last? Thanks for any info, happy to be a new member here. Derek up North
Often/typically head gaskets last forever. Notice I said "often/typically" and not "always". This applies to any make and model.
Jennifer
Does anyone know if there is a warranty on the head gasket recall warranty? Ours were replaced due to the recall (1993 Itasca Spirit), but it seems like we might very well need them replaced again. Thank you!
Derek up North
I'd say that unless they were replaced very recently, you're on your own.
Jennifer
Thanks. There are so few miles on this vehicle (44,000); it's hard to believe this might be true.
Maineah
If they were done it has the latest version head gasket so there is no recall on them. Because MH's get little milage it most likely there isn't any kind of responsible do to time also. Why do you think there is an issue? Derek up North
Do you have a record of when the HG was changed? What mileage?
Jennifer
We have a record it was completed in 1998 from the dealer. No notes on the mileage though. The Itasca uses some coolant and sometimes puffs white smoke from the exhaust.
Derek up North
Before opening your wallet too wide, I'd suggest you get a 'leak down' test and a 'coolant system pressure test'.

oooPIVYooo
I had no idea about this. Just called Toyota and apparently mine was also replaced back in 2000. Thanks!
