  1. Looking to replace the original radiator in my 83 Sunrader. It's a stock 22R two core copper/brass rad. I am considering a similar 3 core. The folks at Roundforge https://www.roundforge.com recommend a CSF 2314 but admit for an 83 there issue with bolts for the fan shroud. Has anyone here made this swap and if so how much of a pain was it?

    hello, I recently bought a 1984 toyota dolphin 22r carburated and the guy i bought it from had replaced the alternator.. there was a few funky things going on with how he set it up. it started up for me several times no problem when i bought it. on the way out of town driving it home it would start cutting out on me then all the dash lights, taillights and gauges went out... was still able to drive it without the electric working surprisingly, would cut out every ten miles or so then i would turn it off, pop start it, and it would go another ten miles give or take . when I got it home I saw that the reason all the lights and gauges went out was because the 60A gasoline fuse under the hood blew due to an extra unconnected wire that is hot coming off the alternator wiring harness. I know this because when it grounds out it blows my new 60A gasoline fuse. when i replaced the fuse all my lights come on and everything works as it should, other a no click no start. Where should this extra wire be going? tried connecting it to the alternator and the fuse blew, it can't really reach much farther than the alternator so i kinda assumed thats where it should go. what else should i check if the 60A fuse blew? would something else burn out in the process? new starter too.
  4. Hey I'm new to the community and let me say I'm very excited to be apart of this, me and my girlfriend have recently purchased a 1982 Toyota Minicruiser. We're going to need any advice you can give us in the coming weeks/months as we will be getting into a full renovation. Already we've found water damage and rott(see pics), I've looked through a good few threads here and noticed a lot of complete restorations so I know we're in the right place for help!!   6. So this is the throttle linkage I have on my 22R. It doesn't look like anything I've seen online. I saw one that was similar, but the person just said they got it to work and never updated the thread saying how. I've tried googling a lot but don't see any way to actually connect these, even with the included j arm plate that goes where the brass one is on the carb. Because of the poor rotation radius in the ball joint, I don't think it would be capable of opening the throttle more than 20%. Does anyone else have a throttle linkage like this?
  7. So Ive been digging around on this site and on the web for repair manuals for my Toyota. My truck being the 6 cyl 3.0 has made it even harder. Haven't really found anything here. Most of it dead-ended to files that no longer existed or didn't apply. What I really was hoping to find was the original Toyota Shop manual for my 1990 in PDF form. Forget it!! Well I have found a few good links that I wanted to share with you guys. That being said I am really careful about what I click on on the internet. The links I am going to share I have already checked out and are good. I have also found out that there are only a couple of countries that do not call our Toyota's "Hilux". Most of the world even to this day call them "HiLux". Anyway hope this may help someone and save you some leg-work too. This one is probably not going to help most folks but you never know.   8. Hey guys if this has been covered already then i will delete this thread. I tried searching the forum for the past 45 minutes and could only find the Chinook owners manual. I'm wondering if anyone has links for the factory service manual or shop manuals for the 20R engine / hi-lux pickup 1969 - 1978 I meant to order one online but never got around to it and i would like to rebuild the carburetor today and not wait a week for the book to arrive. If anyone has a source or links maybe we could use this thread as a resource for manuals etc. (if there isn't already one?)
  9. I have a 1984 Toyota Sunrader. I have posted in the Electrical forum in the past and everyone was a great help in diagnosing my problems. I come to you all with another problem. The wiring from my main battery is a mess, specifically coming from the positive terminal. I cannot imagine this mess was factory installed, but perhaps it was. I want to clean up the wiring that leads from the battery to the fuse box. I've had issues with power cutting out and I'm almost certain that this wiring nightmare is the source of my problem. Any helpful hints or suggestions before I run new wires? Additionally, what's the thin red wire leading off the positive terminal? It doesn't connect to the fuse box.
  10. Hello fellow motorhomies. So, I have a 1984 Sunradar and a 1988 Winnebago. I am transferring the 88 engine/tranny/axles into my 84. That will be a 22RE where my 22R is now. Questions: Will I need to transfer fuel tanks as well? Can I just install a fuel pump somewhere? Or will I have to get creative and modify my current tank? THANK YOU for sharing any knowledge you have. I am a passionate homely motor man and completely dedicated to my Sunradar.
  11. Hello everyone, First post ever, so I'll introduce myself. I'm 33-years-old, single guy, a hopeful writer who pays the bills as a website/app designer, able to work anywhere with Internet. Just arrived back in the States from a couple years abroad, the last year living in Goa, India. While in India I learned the joy of living simply--cold showers, no furniture, power cuts--and after living the past few years out of a suitcase mostly (longer story), I feel little fear in living longterm (or at least until Life changes my path again) in a small space with few things. The only small fear might be of loneliness, but that's a familiar foe So about a month ago, I wake up on my mattress on the floor in India, and there is the urge to go back "home," to America. And the next thought is of one of my favorite books, Travels with Charlie. So now, here I am, at my parents' in Missouri, looking for a reliable cost-friendly mode of transportation for my next adventure. I know this will likely not be a short drive in the woods. I'm expecting to be on the road for 1-2 years minimum. Possible destinations are anywhere that can be reached, possibly Alaska or Mexico or even South America if I have the nerve. All my research has led me to the mid-80s Dolphin models. I feel reasonable sure, that with patience, I can find one around $2,500-$3,500 in reasonable condition. Reading your helpful forum, I know to look for one with the upgraded 1-ton rear axis. Since I will probably be traveling up and down mountains, possibly the 22RE is better than the 22R? What I'm not so sure about is whether to look for a V6, or the 4-cylinder with better mileage? What is the difference between, say, a 1983 Dolphin and 1989 Dolphin other than engine? The layout with rear kitchen seems well suited to a single traveler, but also intrigued by the rear-dinette layout. Wondering how hard it is to rip all that seating out and make it into a little desk and office space? I'm not expecting much company. Sorry, guys, if my questions are mundane and have been asked a hundred different times. I'll probably ask more in the future ... I'm a novice, and fortunate to have a father who is mechanically inclined. I'm looking forward to working on this with him, especially since we haven't had much time to do things together in the past couple years. Thank you for any help or advice you can offer.   12. Does anyone have a recommendations for the Buffalo area? I've got the 1984 22R 4 speed manual mini RV with pop up top. Started leaking oil badly today, and it's going to be a big job. Just curious if anyone has any recommendations in this part of NY or the Erie part of Pennsylvania. Thanks
  13. I have an 82 5 speed Sunrader with the 22R with 60,000 original miles and it will NOT start when its cold unless I spray starter fluid in the carburetor. Here is what I do to start it when its cold... I spray the stuff in both sides of the carburetor (Aisan carb) and quickly pump the accelerator about 5 times and it starts after about 2 tries with the starter fluid. 3 important things... - I can take my foot off the accelerator within 10 to 15 seconds after starting with no sputtering or stalling. - The vehicle runs great once started with lots of power, zero hesitation, surging, or stalling. - After she's warmed up I can turn OFF the motor and leave for an hour or two and come back and she will start right up without starter fluid. This is what I have done so far and it still requires starter fluid to start it cold... - New spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, PCV. - New battery (cleaned terminals and cables). - New fuel filter and its two hoses. - New fuel pump (mechanical). - Seafoam treatment in carburator, crankcase, gas tank. Some carb guy here wants $500 to rebuild this Aisan carburator and I really don't want to spend the bucks. Do you have any suggestions for what I should do next? Thanks Steve
  14. How reliable is the old 20R motor compared to the 22R or 22RE? Besides less horsepower than the 22R or RE, are there any other disadvantages? Thanks Steve
