  1. Can I install everything on the jack stands or do I have to drop the truck to set the springs and then install the air bags?
  2. Right now I am sanding and prepping the frame. The springs will be installed sometime this month. I have a question about installing airbags. The first question is which brand should I buy between Airlift and Firestone? Also, at what point in the leaf spring installation should I install the airbags, do they need to go on while the leaf spring is being installed or after? Do I need to drop the truck and let the springs set before the airbags can be installed or can I put them on when the vehicle is on jacks?
  3. This is from a YouTube how to video for installing old man emu suspension. The springs he is installing do not have that brass bushing in them. The parts are going into a newer Toyota Tundra.
  4. It seems like it won’t fit with that brass fitting in. Should I try to press it in or should I return these and buy a different brand?
  5. Springs not installed. Trying to figure out how to install the bushings. Do the larger ones go in front or in the shackles?
  6. Got it jacked up again. The axle is leaking. The nut I marked keeps clicking and will not tighten. Pretty sure that’s the leak. I tried a different nut and it’s the same thing. What should I do?
  7. No they are not, I already replaced the sway bar bushings and these are different. I need to double check the old bushings to see.
  8. So 4 months later and 2 different mechanics the leaf springs are still not installed. Both places I took them to did not want to install them. I drove it back from Fresno to the Bay and now I will install them myself. Any tips before I get to it? Which side is front and rear?
  9. Well I would have finished everything myself except I had to leave the place I was working on it at. Everything was not finished and I had to leave it with a mechanic which is turning out to be horrible!
  10. Both shops I brought it to claim to specialize in trucks, frames, and wheels. For some reason the shop it’s at now can’t seem to realize you have to remove the bushings to remove the shackles then it will jimmy out while barely hitting the holding tank. I’m not even a mechanic and I could do it. I’m sorry I’m done ranting about anything that’s not a transmission on this feed.
  11. No. I brought it to him to finish my pinion seal, change the wheel studs, fix the brakes and install the leaf springs. He supposedly fixed the pinion seal and changed the studs. He told me he didn’t want to install the leaf springs and really didn’t fix the brakes. I didn’t bother asking him about working on the transmission. I brought it to another shop who has had it for over a month and was complaining about having to remove the holding tank to remove the leaf springs and I tried to explain to them you can take them off without removing anything. They don’t service transmissions and I don’t want them to touch it anyways. They are suppose to fix the brakes and adjust the steering. Why don’t people want to work on these vehicles it seems anytime I try to bring it somewhere it turns into a huge ordeal. The rv is still in Fresno and I’m in the east Bay Area. I have to wait for the other shop to finish and drive it back with flat leaf springs and finish it myself. After that I have to bring it to a muffler shop and then maybe I will have someone quote me on the transmission. Sorry I know most of this post is not about my transmission, but working on this thing has been quite a task!
  12. Mechanic said a seal on the side is leaking. Just wondering if I should bother with it or just let it be and keep topping the fluid off when low?
  13. The pinion seal is leaking, so I did something wrong. I had to put everything back together without installing new leaf springs. I’m towing it to a mechanic, he is gonna finish it for me. Thanks for all the help and knowledge!!! I will post pics once it’s all done.
  14. I can’t get the steering coupler to clamp. The screw will keep going but the coupler will never hold position? And if I over filled steer box should I siphon some out?
  15. Should it have oil in it when I config it? what brand is good? Manual says oil type: API GL-4 SAE 90 capacity: 380 - 400 cc (23.2-24.4 cu in.)
  16. I only replaced the sector shaft seal, reused bearings and worm shaft seal. I ordered the worm shaft seal and cover gasket from the dealership, but they were wrong so I returned them. I need to wrap this thing up ASAP!
