  1. Ok thanks everyone,I wonder what that part would be called,I could probably find it on parts diagram,might have to buy the whole vacuum hose with it I suspect
  2. Well that kinda makes me feel better,I suspected maybe brake booster is going out but thats just a guess.
  3. Been having this problem since purchase but been ignoring it and focusing on other problems. At startup of motor and first taking off brakes are very touchy and will sometimes jerk pretty hard, but this is only when first moving. As rig gets going it's like a pressure gets built up and brakes seem to work fine after that but sometimes they feel better if you give them a pump but its not necessary to pump them to stop. Any ideas? Thanks
  4. I'm not sure how to respond to this,you seem offended about my previous post which i did not intend to do.And I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing either.I'm not disagreeing with you,I think most of the youtube videos I was talking about are saying dont bother replacing the stock setup with something like what I linked to on ebay,are you disagreeing with that? I do not know the answer or claim to. And as far as the LCE video Derek posted,all it shows is a 4 runner on a dyno,thats it,we have no ideal if anything has been installed on it or not and they do not show any proof of any performance gains.
  5. I have no clue if it works or not,in that same thread from toyotatech someone else posted to go to youtube and search for mythbusters cold air intake and you will find several videos showing the why and how they dont work so I did and there are a bunch of them
  6. Well found this on toyota tech forum about adding one to v-6: 1) The standard intake draws air from the front of the grille, which is as "cold" as it's going to get anyway unless you refrigerate it. 2) More importantly, cold air is not your engine's friend. The reason that the plenum or intake manifold is sitting right on top of the engine is so that the air gets warmed before it gets ingested into the cylinders. That promotes good vaporization of the fuel and complete, uniform burning, extracting the maximum power from the fuel charge. The reason your engine has a cold-start injector (or choke if carbureted) is because, when the engine is not warmed up, the air drawn into the engine remains cold and the fuel doesn't vaporize well, so you have to enrich the mixture to get enough vapor to burn well. If you could blast ice-cold air directly into your cylinders your engine would run like crap, if at all. Basically, it would run all the time just like it runs now just after start-up on a cold morning. Do you really want that? So why do high-performance race engines use refrigeration/ice to cool the intake air? Because they have turbo chargers which compress the air and consequently heat it well beyond the ideal point for engine operation. They have to cool it down to the proper temperature to avoid knocking and to get the maximum air (at the proper temp) into the cylinders. Even the non-turbo engines may produce so much heat that they overheat the intake air. Your 3vze is not in that league.
  7. Joe I have not installed it but I wouldnt think it's that hard,to answer your other questions this is what is stated in the listing: Increase 8-10% horsepower and torque Easy to install and easy to fit with simple tools No additional parts will be needed for installation after you purchase this kit All mount accessories are included, exactly the same as picture shown Installation instruction is available by e-mail
  8. Thanks Linda,I dont think thats the problem though,when you crawl underneath it just sounds like the noise is coming from the engine itself,but I will investigate further.
  9. Well I had some pvc pipe and elbow laying around so I cranked up generator and stuck the pipe over exhaust and it made no difference in sound,thats when I realized it's not the exhaust thats so loud,its the actual generator motor itself so I'll just have to live with how loud it is,the genturi would do me no good{other than raising the gas up}
  10. I wish there was a view new post option,even on a certain section a thread that been recently posted on will be at bottom of page Edit: Nevermind,I see the unread content option is basically the same thing
  11. Yes Linda you are correct about that, mistaken would probably have been a better choice of words. His brain would probably be good to pick on how not to do it, he might not be able to tell you how to do it right, but he could tell you what mistakes to avoid.
  12. So finally got a chance to put some miles on this rig today,I drove it the 40 mile trip to work.I wouldnt say theres a night and day difference,but there is a difference.So nice to have the window down and be able to hear that exhaust note sound the way its supposed to It cruised great,now today was not windy and mostly flat roads,but it cruised at 72 mph with no problem and seemed like plenty of pedal left,felt like I could have squeezed 85 out of her if I would have attempted it,and no check engine light came on
  13. Ok, but he's kinda misrepresenting the swap saying he would have dropped in a V-8 if he would have known it was going to drop his mpg by 4. Do you know if he ever got the O2 sensors figured out? And would the O2 sensors not being hooked up rob it of power? Like I said, he's either always driving uphill or his old V-6 ran terrible also because also like I said I could cruise at 70 when I had the misfire and was only firing on 5 cyls.
  14. Yes I read that,but then he goes on to write this: "While I would definitely recommend this 3.0 to 3.4 engine swap, if I would have known the gas mileage was going to drop 4 mpg instead of increase 4 mpg, I might have just swapped a V8 engine in its place instead of the 3.4 V6. I still feel like there is not enough power as I would like, so the next upgrade I will make is adding a Toyota Supercharger to the 3.4 to give a significant horsepower increase and truly get me up to highway speeds (65 mph)." So why write that,I'm confused,he needs to explain why the O2 sensors arent hooked up and then test gas mileage. And what about cruising at 55,does O2 sensors not hooked up explain that? I'm not being a smartass,I honestly dont know
  15. Wow dropping from 12 to 9 mpg with the swap? And only being able to cruise at 55mph? He must always go uphill,I can cruise pretty easily in mine at 70 and that was on 5 cylinders!
  16. What about this for the v-6? http://www.ebay.com/itm/222021729992?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  17. See I knew there was a reason What happens if theres not a gap though? Isnt that exhaust still going to to the top? Or what about a pipe that covers the exhaust pipe but has a 1 or 2 " larger circumference,wouldnt that still allow colder air to to to be sucked in? They have probably went thru all the scenarios and decided their way works best
