  1. Ok Totem, not true test by your specifications. I don't have a camera. Today I installed the hard start capacitor and the new relay kit made by Dometic on my 11k Dometic AC. I started my Honda 2000i, put the AC fan only on (lowest setting) then started the air on low. The compressor kicked on, the Honda ran the unit. So far so good. I then set the fan to medium and cranked up the air to 6 (out of 8.) When the compressor kicked on the Honda died...Bummer! So I lowered the fan to low and dialed down the cold to 4. Started up the Honda and it ran the unit for over 4 continuous hours. Slows down a second when the compressor kicks on but did not overload..Wow! So the weather today in Northern Ohio was 88 and the humidity was in the upper 70%..it was hot and my rig was sitting on my concrete drive in full sun. I'm around sea level though and it wasn't 90 out but close. Inside my Granville it was around 95 and it took awhile but the Honda cooled it down to the upper 70's. I even plugged in a small electric fan running off the Honda also and she kept running. I know this isn't the test you described but it's a start for me. My hope is I can run the Honda while mounted on the back and cool my rig while cruising as my cab air isn't repairable. Keep me and my pups cool. Got to figure out a way to secure the Honda so nobody can steal it! I know the Honda won't work in the Rockies but it might in the Appalachians near me. Who knows? My other option is to buy the Dometic smart start unit but @ $450 that's expensive. I've read the Honda 2000i can run a roof AC on economy mode with the smart start installed. That would still be somewhat reasonable as I think to fix my cab air would be over $1000. I'll keep you updated if you want. I'm not plugging the Honda, it's just the only generator I own. Mark
  2. Hello Totem, hope you don't mind me contacting you Sir! I'm extremely interested in your posts regarding generators running rooftop air. I'm new to this obsession. Just purchased a 1985 Granville. It has a 11k Dometic roof air and I have a Honda 2000i. I've read what you said about the Honda not up to par. I ordered  a hard start capacitor from Dometic. Supposed to be much better than the Supco units and cost 50 bucks! I'm trying to figure a way to be able to use the Honda if possible because my cab air is unrepairable and was hoping to use the Honda while cruising to cool the coach and cab. I haven't attempted to start the air with the Honda yet....waiting on the cap. I see you do that with the Harbor Freight 2500. How do you mount it while driving? What's your honest opinion on how loud it is while running under a full load. Also important, how do you keep someone from stealing it when you park? My other options are to buy the Dometic Easy Start unit for $450.00 plus shipping, tax, etc. and use the Honda; sell the Honda and by the Harbor Freight unit. I'm concerned about parts, reliability and where to serve the Harbor Freight unit. Sure hope the Honda will work with just the hard start cap. If no time to respond Totem I completely understand and will still continue to enjoy your posts Sir! Thanks for your time! Mark

I just slap the 2500 HF on the rear bumper wedged in between the bumper and my HF cargo carrier.

The thing you need to remember about the 2000 is that its a 1600 watt generator and not intended to long term run AC, and yet if you are driving 7-8 hours using it thats just what we are talking about doing.
What will happen is, it may very well start and it will run for half our then go into overload just from running.

I would say give it a try; worst case it will trash the generator or the AC. Not worth the risk to me.

To me the HF is very quiet while driving i cant hear it at all.

parked its not too bad either but i only run it at truck stops or lots. i would not recommend it or a honda or yamaha etc at a national park camp area; they will probably complain.

I run a bike lock through my generator; its a steel cable that coils and has a combo number on it.

If its stolen its ok, its just a HF genny; not a $1000 honda and mine has already paid itself off so i dont care though i have never had any trouble using the bike cable lock. I run the cable through the tow hitch chain connector. if someone gonna bolt cut that thing they were gonna steal your crap anyway i always say. To me the setup i have is < $1000 it included the PS edition AC, supco cap, and the HF genny. My system runs for less than the cost of a Honda that doesnt.

  3. Newbie here. Not sure if discussed previously but does anyone drink the water from their 30 year old fresh water tank? I've sanitized my tank per Linda's instructions but still not sure. Hate to lug around bottled water! Perhaps some type of stand alone filter? Any suggestions? Thanks! Mark
  4. HI Wade! We've been walking the same path. I have completed most of the mechanical work on my 85 Granville and it was Extensive Man! Having sat for 5 years Everything was either dry rotted or rusted! The rig only has 36K on it But....from a complete replacement of All front and rear brakes & parts, suspension, tires, hoses, fluids, plus replacing everything in the engine that I could....you name it! The only things that were "good" were the brake lines and the rear leaf springs. Unreal how much damage can happen while just sitting. I had another member, Mr.Al Script, advise me on the steps to take..very helpful. Like you I don't want to breakdown somewhere! Now in the long process of sealing the Coach and roof. So to find the window bead seals my local Camping World suggested Parkin Accessories (who they order from)) 1-800-637-8938 www.parkin-acc.com. If you call they will want to know the maker of your windows as all the seals are different (of course!) I have no idea who made mine in 1985! I requested a catalog and was able to match a seal from the pictures. They even sent me a sample to confirm. Sweet but Expensive! Around $14 a foot but the only place I could find. They have everything! Hope this helps. BTW, how did you get your valve cover to clean up so well? Mine looks like your original pic and I can't get the stains off. Good Luck and Happy 4th!! Mark
  5. On a previous post Totem mentioned a liquid polymer floor covering that makes dull oxidized paint exteriors good for years but couldn't recall the name. Anyone knows about this? I have severe oxidized graphics on the hood of my Granville and would like to improve the appearance. It appears to be painted on @ the factory but not sure if its paint of vinyl. I've tried 303 marine spray...no luck! Thanks!
  6. Just got an 86 Winnie 4 banger with 64000 miles. Runs like a top but was interested in knowing if the valves might need adjusting, if that is even necessary or not and what would be the benifits?? Any ideas on the costs would also be appreciated! Thanks!
  7. How do you drain the fresh water tank and flush it properly?? I just bought a 1986 Toy Home with a Winnebago Mini and cannot find a fresh water holding tank drain plug. Do you open the Brown Water Holding Tank Valve and flush and drain that way?? Thanks All!
