  1. Anyone know what I should get? I need to get the new shocks in and, in the past folks said I should replace the springs, bushings, and shackle bolts while I am at it. Thank You!
  2. Rear shocks, do I need to take the tires off? I just watched a YouTube video where the guy did NOT take the rear tires off. He just inflated the air bellows, removed the shock, put the new one on at the top, the deflated the bellows until the holes matched up. I would prefer to go simple - can I do this without taking the tires off?? Thanks Again!
  3. What is a BFH - big f'n hammer? I have the rest of the tools. It is oddly clean under there. I can start spraying the bolts and watching YouTube videos. I may just stick with the shocks for now. They look like they are a billion years old. Any torque requirements on the new shocks, or just crank the bolts? I really appreciate everyone's knowledge and experience here!
  4. Thank you guys so much for the great info!! I could do the shock replacement myself, but replacing the springs sounds a bit more involved - or is that something pretty simple?
  5. I know there have been a lot of posts on this topic. I have some specific entry level questions (I have a 1991 v6 Sunrader 21') as I need to do something to increase my speed going over gravel forest service roads (I can go about 2 mph, seriously). I know there have been no repairs/upgrades/maintenance to my Sunrader's suspension since she was born in 1991: 1. Front shocks - what should I get? 2. Back shocks - I have air bellows that seem to hold air. I was going to get them "serviced". Should I upgrade them? 3. Since I have rear air bellows, I also have shocks back there, right? If yes, what should I get? 4. Stupid question for sure - struts versus shocks, what do I have? 5. How difficult is the shock install - I have a million things going on and don't need another project. If I have someone install them, any ideas on best shop - toyota dealership, tire shop, etc? 6. Can I get my Sunrader lifted to allow for a tad more clearance? Thank You Everyone - I know I could *try* and answer these myself, but there is way too much knowledge in this group to think I could answer these better than this crowd! Kristen
  6. Hi Wadingthroughlife, everything was easy EXCEPT the main power lines were too short so I had to extend them. The wire gauge is large, so I needed a special connector then had to shrink wrap that connector seal. Other than that - it was a snap!
  7. What's the difference between radial and biased ply, what should I be running on my Sunrader, and does it matter?
  8. Thanks so much Linda!! The Coker tires is pretty nice. Honestly, all the tires seem expensive right now - perhaps due to Covid. I will send before and after pictures when the tire project tis done!
  9. Hi All - It's that time of my RV's ('91 Sunrader 21' 6V) life where I need all new tires. I need tires that work well on basic forest service type roads (gravel, dirt, slight bumps) - so looking for more of an all-terrain tire. I know that the Hankook RA18 Vantra LT tire is the go-to tire - anyone know how these tires perform in the basic "off-road" setting? Also, has anyone used the Maxxis UE-168 tires?? I am leaning towards these tires as they seem to have a bit more of an all-terrain tread. We tend to have to drive long distances on these types of road to get to our camping destinations.
  10. Thanks everyone! It took a fair bit of time to swap out the converter, primarily because the hot and ground leads were not long enough and I had to extend them. Due to the gauge of the wires I needed to use special connectors that required a shrink wrap and my heat gun was broken. I got a new heat gun and (after contacting Progressive Dynamics - they promptly sent out the wire) I received the 4 pin wire. And, yes, that wire is only for the Charge Wizard.
  11. Thanks Linda. I will do that. While I navigate that process and wait for the wire, I installed the converter. Do you happen to know if it safe to use my RV? Is that wire integral to the safe charging of the battery, or is it was of the battery wizard feature?
  12. I am upgrading my old Power Center to the Progressive Dynamics PD 4645V. They didn't include the 4 pin wire. CAn I safely operate the converter without this wire? It is the wire that goes from the converter to the DC fuse board. Thank You!!
  13. Does anyone have any idea where I can get window weep hole covers for a 1991 Sunrader? Thanks in advance!
  14. Payaso del mar - 180# of dog - sounds like pure love! I am carting 210#s of dog in mine! I feel I have streamlined the "RV'ing with my dogs" - though am always interested in crafty things people do. Let me know if you came up with any cool fixes to the chaos dogs add to the journey!
  15. I would also be interested in the link!
  16. After a lot of research and shelling out a few $$ I finally have my dog system figured out! I have 2 large dogs, and one small dog. My old large dog and small dog were having a very difficult time navigating the RV step. These Pet Loader stairs are amazing! They hold enough weight for humans to step on, and are wide enough for my 90 pound old guy, and low enough for my short version beagle. They fold up - though I am still figuring out a slick place to store them when in transit. The pet fence is a Richell dog/baby fence. It holds my 90 pound insanely spunky golden without a problem! It has individual plastic panels that are held together by slipping into each other, then secured with these cool caps that allow you to make any angle you want! I store the whole thing on a Surco ladder mounted bike rack (installed upside down) and secure with these super cool Rok Straps! When I arrive at my semi pet friendly location, I secure my dogs' leashes with large carabiners to soft loop tie down straps attached to the the mirrors and ladder - then it only takes about 5 minutes to set the fence up! Woof Woof!
  17. Hi Linda - After a little searching I found this hinge, on craigslist, for $35! It was welded to a *nasty rotten* couch from some doge econo van thing. I took the whole couch, cut and knocked the welds off (super duper hassle), removed the hinges, and installed in my Sunrader. Now my couch back doesn't fall down!!! Thanks for your help!
  18. I have a 21' Sunrader, 1991, bathroom in the back. The furnace conked out about a month ago. I am not planning on fixing the furnace until spring so need something to tie me over, then supplement the furnace when I get it working again: Mr Heater vs Olympian Wave. Which one is safer? I have 3 dogs and will plumb the heater into the LP then would like to place it in the bathroom doorway? It seems the Mr Heater is ginormous and I am not exactly sure where I would put it where the dogs' tails wouldn't catch on fire, also I don't want to do the Buddy mod. I am leaning towards the Wave, but don't know what size to get. Obviously I would prefer to get the Wave 3, small and less expensive - but if it doesn't heat the space it isn't worth it. Any ideas? Does anyone use either of these at elevation? I did a lot of research and, basically, don't want to drop the large pile of money on the Wave, but on the same note I want something that works, is safe with dogs, and isn't going to take up half of the living space. Does anyone know - the furnace was making an awful screeching noise. Is that the bearings or the fan off balance? Do folks use their furnaces when not hooked up to power? It seems the furnace fan really drains the battery. Thank You!
  19. Thanks Linda - I am happy to know what it is called, but sad to know it will be difficult to find a replacement hinge. Dang-o
  20. Thanks Totem - I attached pics. I attached one of the couch, and one of the backrest. Can you see the screw holes on the back rest? Hope you can help solve the mystery!
  21. I recently got a 91 Sunrader, with the bathroom in the back. I am hoping someone can help me figure out the front couch. The hardware holding the back of the couch in place is gone. I can't figure out: #1 did the couch convert to a bed? #2 what hardware do I need to reattached the couch backrest - does anyone have a picture so I know what I am looking for? Thank you so much (in advance) for your help.
  22. 1991 Sunrader V6 21' Olympia WA. Currently it is in my driveway as I figure out the insurance black hole of "replacement value". Hopefully this weekend I will take her on her first trip with me and my dogs!!!! This is my first RV! I have been carting my dogs around in a '79 VW bus - pretty sweet day ride for the hairy pals - though the lack of heat makes this ride a bit unpleasant - at least for me - in the winter. We upgraded to a Sunrader so we can go overnight, have heat, and not have to all sleep smashed together in the back. Being new to the RV and Sunrader world, I am hoping to lean on all of you with your years of experience and wisdom. I guess first question - anyone know where I can get the original jack-knife couch hinges?? Someone took them off, and I would like to use it as a bed. Thanks!
