Bought our '94 Winnebago Warrior with 30K miles on it in May and drove it from Seattle, Wash to Palmer, Alaska.
We are now planning the return trip to store it near Seattle for some of the winter months. We will leave Alaska in late September camping at a couple hot springs to take a dip...Tahkini Hot Springs campground andLiard Hot Springs campground, both open year round! We will be travelling through Whitehorse, Fort Nelson,Fort St. John, and Prince George, then take the new highway to Vancouver and head to Seattle.
Hoping the Canadians have fixed the highway between the Alaska/Canada border and Destruction Bay, B.C. It was a mess in May....huge potholes everywhere, broken asphalt, sharp edges, unbelievably rough road (a gravel road would've been a major improvement over this)...had to go 25mph on some parts of the 85-100 miles of destroyed highway. I've lived in Alaska for 62 years and have never seen a road in this bad of shape. (and we're known for our rough roads up here!)
That was the only bad experience we had driving the Alcan in May, otherwise, beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife along side the road, great food (especially at A&W's in Canada...their beef is from range free local cattle and their fries are from local potatoes....absolutely no comparison to the cardboard filler burgers and processed frozen fries in U.S. A&W Drive-ins!)
The Winnebago performed perfectly without a hitch! Go Toyota!
