  1. Anyone have advice on a good rear view camera... maybe with an easy install. I like the idea of one that goes over the current rear view mirror as it is useless. Kahuna in Kanada
  2. I've been lurking on this thread. What's the actual $ benefit of this upgrade? What toyotas have these rear ends? thanks kahuna in Kanada
  3. I just ordered the Amber one, $4.95, free shipping. Hard to beat that. Kahuna
  4. Hey that looks like it! You're the best! I didn't know what to call it, let alone the manufacturer. Kahuna
  5. I have one of those standard handle / light things. It's rectangular with a little plastic lens. Can I get a replacement lens? Kahuna in Kanada
  6. I used to ride trials as a kid. This one guy came to the competitions with his bike behind a small car. He had fabricated this aluminum tray or dish that the front wheel sat in. He simply took the chain off and the bike followed behind. Kahuna
  7. Thanks Linda, may be. Thanks to a good tip on here I ordered the timing belt/water pump kit from rock auto. I read on another site that it's a good idea to do the front main seal and the the 2 cam seals while in there, so I ordered those today. maybe my small oil leak will get solved! Kahuna in Kanada
  8. Has anyone used this Kit? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G92P4S/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER kahuna
  9. A long time ago I had an old mgb. They re-arched the oe springs and added a thicker piece. Worked like a charm.
  10. My 89 is starting to look a bit saggy in the rear end + I'm about to start carrying a cargo rack. I'm reading this thread and I'm not as keen on air bags as I was. I know of a. Great spring place, I think I'll start by getting the springs re arched and have an extra spring added. Kahuna
  11. Just got back from a 3700 km trip to Tybee island / savannah and back. I still have the oil leak, but after 5500 km or so I still don't have to add oil, it's down 1/16" or so on the dipstick. Need to change oil now. Oil isn't really even dirty. Hot oil spots look worse than they are... I'd still like to get the oil leak fixed. I'm at 115 k km now, book says to do timing belt and water pump at 144k. I think I'll get it done sooner rather than later. I'm sure that belt is 27 years old. kahuna in Kanada
  12. Interesting. I tried to buy an entire timing belt kit with an AISIN pump... it was like James Bond, the retailer asked a pile of questions, including If your shift gear stick is located on the column right next to the steering wheel, then your engine uses the water pump without the outlet pipe. He was very helpful and not just interested in making a sale.
  13. I'm trying to track down an OE water pump for my camper. I'm getting conflicting reports of what will fit/not fit. Something about an inlet pipe. Even using my vin JT5VN94T1K0007747 I get one vendor saying yes to 161006947583 and others saying no. Appears 1610069225 is the original part number and that has been replaced. As well my vin usually comes up as a 4Runner. I'm getting everything together for a timing belt replacement. Kahuna in Kanada
  14. Ok , I like the sounds of this. When I had the valve cover gaskets done (felpro) I was days away from leaving for FLA from Canada. One of the valve covers had some minor damage to the underside flange, the mechanic thought some sealant could do the trick. I should have written down what side that was. i'm reading that sometimes the valve covers can warp.
  15. I had the valve cover gaskets replaced. Took it to Florida and back. Oil leak started, took it in. They cleaned the engine and said it's coming from the head. Yes, I meant engine rebuild gasket set.
  16. i see a lot of the kits state 'hydraulic belt tensioner' Is this what an 89 has? by the way, there is one of those online toyota parts places that has OE engine rebuild kits for $200C, they don't have any more valve grind kits left so they are substituting engine rebuild kits.
  17. I emailed one of those online toyota parts places. the short of it is that the valve grind kit is NLA. The engine rebuild kit is and is $192 which i assume is the valve grind kit +. Toyota no longer has new water pumps and they don't sell a timing belt kit per se. Is there a company that sells a known to be good timing belt kit with pump for my 89 V6? Thanks, Kahuna
  18. The wrong gas cap can cause a lot of trouble. I had an old Saab, someone replaced the cap with one from the wrong year, non vented instead of vented. The pump crushed the fuel tank. K
  19. Will the cap for an 89 v6 truck be correct for an 89 camper? The dealer wants $55 for a cap based on vin. Thanks kahuna in kanada
