  1. Good explanation nibs. Basically push the button in when the transmission starts to shift a lot back and forth in the hills until you get back on the flat land again then turn it back on. Expect it to shift some times at speed on slight hills that’s ok.
  2. The early 5 spd's were iron case units and it was not that the bearings might fail it was when (tops of 30K miles). My guess is that they all are now melted down in to some thing else. The later 5 spds were overdriven, 4 being direct (1 to 1) and 5th overdriven. I frankly don't think you will see much improvement the power is just not there even if you drop the rpm's you'll be shifting in and out of 5th a lot just too much wind resistance to gain much speed. It will be quieter and maybe save a little fuel if you can keep it in 5th. Moosepucky's right that maybe a lot of bucks for little bang.
  3. Is your new converter part of the original unit or completely separate? There is a grounding lug on the converter that hooks to the ground on your shore power often hooked to other things in the camper and the truck frame. Most camp sites have ground fault breakers and if it’s wired wrong it should trip. It sure sounds like you have some thing backwards can you check the converter ground and see if there is 120 volts to shore ground? Try not to get in between the two in case there is! Then check to be sure if it is grounded to the ground pin on your shore power. That will tell you if some thing is wrong. Also there is a pack of ground wires for the coach 12 volt ground in the fuse panel maybe one of them is not properly seated and that’s your 12 volt wiring ground issue.
  4. Was not I Fupi. I know hydrogen stuff has been done but I don't know enough to comment about it.
  5. I think your tire size should be 165X70X14 that may account for your spedo issue. There are two size torsion bars use the large ones.
  6. It should have no effect on your fuel mileage the valve only works when you crank the engine and is temperature dependent. It’s not a real big valve and injects directly into the intake plenum more of a mist then any thing.
  7. I put those weather vane things on my vents, they work great! I think I paid $18 for them. Guess they won’t help you right now with out treating the tanks but they made a great addition on mine.
  8. Try a hardware store I bought a household fixture for mine as a replacement and it fit just fine so it seems that they should have what you need.
  9. I have a 87 New Horizon Nova Star and love it very rugged. Mine is fiberglass with the 22RE automatic. The Toyota's are every where in the world and just about any where you go you'll be able to fine some one to fix . Tough stuff I doubt if you'll have any issues with it any way if it has had reasonable care.
  10. Agreed, hook the radiator cooler back up and add the biggest cooler that will fit. You also might also notice where it is shifting when you get it fixed if it is shifting too soon that will make it run hotter. It all so sounds like some one did not do a real good job on the first overhaul.
  11. Big project lots of different stuff. One big problem would be the electronics all kinds of differences less cylinders different ignition different ecu different wiring harness and you would not be satisfied with the power after driving the 6 cylinder. Is the 3L junk? Or does it have repairable problems?
  12. Wow too bad no one is interested in fixing it. I guess a Toyota is a scary thing if you only work on Fords! What the hey it maybe a great experience for them to see what it’s like to work on the best selling vehicle in the world. Well good luck be sure to clean the cooler lines out. I guess it’s pretty much the same thing here in Northern Maine if you have a skidder you’re are golden they know how to work on them!
  13. Probably not a bad price. Have you tried a truck garage they should have the head room to lift your Toyota. If it was moving the pump was working. You probably have a small cooler mine did and it has been replaced with a larger Hyden cooler. They are looped into the radiator cooler as will it just gives the unit more area to the shed heat. Basically the fluid is from the line pressure circuit and it just dumps back into the transmission pan so there is little or no pressure only the resistance of the coolers and the pipes. Once you get the transmission repaired you will need to clean the coolers and the lines they will have metal in them from the old trans. The best method would be a flush but you can do it with solvent and air pressure. Check in the phone book and call a few transmission shops and ask if they are set up to do motor homes many are.
  14. Sure sounds cooked to me, where was the smoke coming from? If it was rebuilt by a reputable shop they may stand behind it. Most likely the forward clutch pack is bad if it chatters from a stand still also the converter is suspect if it was getting that hot. I guess what I’m saying you need a complete overhaul. There were some issues with the surface in the rear of the transmission where the governor rings ride so who ever does the work for you ask them to be sure to have a good look at the case. There was an after market bushing kit made for those transmissions where the governor fits so you would not be faced with buying a new case to repair it.
  15. Shoprat’s right the gauge is vague at best check it with a real one first. I would stick with the stock thermostatic fan it moves a lot of air. Most of the flex fans make a lot of noise and the electric ones may not fit.
  16. 55 sounds great to me I can save gas and not get run over!
  17. I found one at the RV dealer but it was expensive like $60 but I think it was thepager5 that found one really cheap after his MH was beat up by hail.
  18. Nope but the one with the little rain flap is exactly what I was looking for over the door. I have a Nova Star made by New Horizon (87) it’s all fiberglass and midway on the body there is a channel that is different then the rest of the screw covers. I have replaced all of the ¾” trim that you sort of fold to get in (like in the pictures). All of this trim is dead straight (no curves) and is horizontal. Both sides have this type of trim, the channel shaped like so [_] and the trim fits over it covering it completely. It is maybe an inch wide and I don’t think it is particularly flexible hard to really tell the old stuff is like a rock.
  19. Sorry I should have been more specific it is a screw cover. My MH has two types the one that is quite common that takes the flat plastic 3/4" trim and another one that the trim snaps over, that one completely covers the metal part. Lack of a better description it is “U” shaped all though it’s flat on the face with small grips that hold it to the channel.
  20. Does any one know where I can find the “U” shape trim piece? I have had not trouble finding the flat ones but there are horizontal pieces that snap over the metal bar not inside of them that I can’t seem to find.
  21. In the fact it does that well I think your fridge is fine. There are 3 types of heating 12 volt, 120 volt and gas. There are different elements for each so if the 120 volt side is not working make sure it is plugged in and it has power (there is a plug in behind the unit) if it does it’s probably the element. When it’s hot out side the refrigerator may not get any colder then that and when it’s cool out it may freeze your milk. There are after market small fans that cool the condenser that will help the temperature a good bit inside the fridge. I use two small computer 12 volt fans on mine to cool the condenser works pretty good. Oh yeah the condenser looks like a small base board heater and it is at the highest point on your fridge.
  22. Yes not a good plan the original charger/converters are very electrically dirty and probably even over voltage for your radio. Lights and fans don’t really care if there is a lot of AC in the power lines but the radio does. Best bet is to connect it to you truck electrical system it should play for days with out draining your truck battery.
  23. I maybe all wet but I think it is nothing more then what you would find under any Toyota pick up sure looks it to me. I'll look under my pick up and let you know if it is the same as my MH.
  24. Greedy bunch aren’t they! They probably come form the same supplier.
