  1. Did yours work after a reboot (turning it off/on)? That's what mine does. I just have to flick the switch back and forth and next time it cycles on I have heat. I have a busy morning but when I get settled I'm going to take the whole thing apart and clean all the contacts, as well as the intake and exhaust. I have a feeling that might do it, since the furnace gave me no problems last night. It seems to be an intermittent thing, which probably means a loose or dirty connection somewhere. If not I'll look into this board thing. Thanks man. One more thing: Do these suburban stats have an anticipator on them? My unit seems to cycle on and off just a bit too much. I used to know how to set one, but that was like a million years ago.
  2. DOH!. I was going to have my tires rotated on Monday or Tuesday, so I haven't really checked the pressures lately. For some reason I am really bad about montioring tire pressure. Thanks, guys. WOO HOO! I forgot all about Rock Auto. Those guys have everything, it seems. Thank You very much.
  3. I'm on Chrome with XP and report no problems yesterday or today. I can take out my other laptop and check with Chrome and Win7 if you like.
  4. So, the real answer is, get the big alt, toss the 13,500 BTU AC and replace it with the 8,000 BTU, or a window unit? That way you avoid laying out several hundred more on solar panels. You could probably find someone to swap ACs, so that cost might be minimal.
  5. After further perusal of the boards, I saw that this seems to be a semi-common problem. Most of them prescribe cleaning the intake/exhaust, like you said. Sounds like this weekend's project to me, Thanks John. So, if that's the case, can I retrofit the dino-board to my unit? I suppose a little more info, like what model furnace I have would make it easier to answer, so I'll get that once daylight finally shows up. Thanks Maineah. I actually thought this might be the case when it first happened. I checked the battery though and she's stronger than rent. Apparently the alternator on the vehicle can charge house batteries a lot faster than my old Class B could. With my old unit, If my batteries were dead, it would sometimes take four hours or so of driving to charge her up. It seems the house battery on the Toy can fully charge after just a five or ten minute drive to the store. I wonder if the solenoid-type battery isolator has something to do with that. I had one of those blue-box, solid state isos on my old one and I didn't like that thing at all. It failed me more than once. Thanks Karin.
  6. OK, this is odd, at least to me. It's been cold so the furnace has been running at night. Two nights ago I woke up because it was getting chilly. The furnace fan was running but no heat. Obviously the sparker either wasn't firing, or the gas valve had gone bad. So, I got out my little Coleman catalytic heater, fired it up, and went back to sleep, figuring I would troubleshoot in the morning. When I got up I made some coffee and decided to start the furnace again to see if I could get an idea of what was happening. Fan started and a few seconds later, CLICK goes the sparker and the damn thing fires right up and starts putting out heat, like it never had a problem. I take the facia off, turn it on and off a few times, observe that the piezo-type sparker is working and that its getting LP, and wonder WTF? It's firing up like it never had a problem. Fast forward to last night. I turned on the furnace, went to sleep, and again, I wake up in the middle of the night because its chilly and the furnace is just blowing cold air. I get up, shut it off, turn it back on, and everything kicks on and I have heat. Again, WTF? Anybody have any idea? I first thought it would be a breaker to the piezo tripping, but I would have to reset it, unless it has an internal of some type, which I doubt. Only other thing I can figure is maybe a draft disrupts the lighting of the burner, maybe because it was windy outside? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense either though. It has to be the gas valve sticking or something, right? Anybody run across this before?
  7. Man, its too bad this guy opened the thread four years ago. I would have offered him some money for that gennie carcass. I coulda rebuilt that thing and put it in my GV.
  8. There was a Kohler 2.8 on EBay today for, I think $1650, if anyone is interested. I think it was new. Even if it is, its still more than I want to spend.
  9. Hmm. gonna have to get in touch with them. They only have parts from '89-'93, and I have an '87. Maybe it will bolt up, maybe not. Forty bucks for one hose! BTW don't break your Load Sensing Valve. It's almost $150!
  10. The 460EFI is a really nice and reliable powerplant. It drinks gas like a drunk drinks whiskey, but you try and haul around 14,000lbs on a 26-30ft chassis and you'll use up a lot of energy too. Also, the face it presents to the wind is huuuuge, so that doesn't help the mileage either. Think barn door flying down the road and you got a Fords Class C motorhome. The problem is if the motor or trans lets go, it's expensive. The 460EFI and the C-6 trans that bolts to it are probably about $3500 each, right out of the crate. Add in whatever for installation. You gotta protect that drive train. A lot of people don't on these things which is why you see either the engine or the trans being replaced at as little as 70K sometimes, usually because they wanted to tow a 6000lb Expedition with her. The 460 is tough, but it does have its limits. All things considered though, I would take the 460 over the Chevy 454, but that's just me. Make sure you have a Fords mechanic look at the drive train. Everything else is secondary, including any possible leaks. Leaks are cheaper than engines. I love how tough Fords stuff is, but you still have to take care of it.
  11. Nope, got new pads and calipers, rotors are good, and the system has been bled three times over. Just got the job done about ten days ago. The only reason the hoses weren't done then is I that neither I or the mechanic could locate a set in Baltimore, and I had to get out of town before that storm, so I couldn't wait around to do some research and mail-order the parts. Alignment is good. I don't sense or see any spring sag, and it's not visible to the eye. My bumper is level. Matter of fact I was putting bubble levelers on my dash today, so I fiddled around with her until she was absolutly level, both front and back and both sides. Actually took a tape measure from various points on the nose and tail and the heights were symmetrical, so the chassis is as level as she's gonna be, considering her age. BTW, neither bumper has been banged around, so I know they're straight. The left front locks up while the right front doesn't, which is why it pulls. Granted, it locks up a lot less than two weeks ago, when it was probably providing 75% of the braking, but it will still lock up when you lay on the pedal. It's simply getting more pressure than the right side is. That hose has to be at least semi-collapsed. The only thing on the front brakes that weren't swapped out were those hoses and the master cylinder. The master is good, so it has to be that hose. I'm just going to have to find someone that will make custom hoses and then I'll just put the new ones on both sides. Should solve the problem, or at least as much as you can solve the braking problems on these things. So if anyone has a fave place where they order stuff like this, I'm all ears.
  12. OK, quick update for anyone who wants to know...I backed the valve off to full rear bias and the braking finally seems to be acceptable. I still wouldn't want to follow anybody at closer than 6-8 car lengths, no matter what speed I'm travelling at. But, I can live with what I got, at least until I investigate the one-ton hubs for the front end. I don't like the idea of having two different lug patterns anyway. It was not one of Toyota's brighter ideas, if you ask me. I have one more pending issue: I am still pulling just a bit to the left under hard braking. I suspect I have a brake hose collapsing on the right side. Is there a company out there who can make the hoses for me? Can't seem to find anything in the local parts stores, and no one around that could do custom work, so If anyone has a web address, I would be most grateful. Thanks
  13. Sounds like the guy with the Sunrader is Just trying to guage value then. Oh well. The other one at sounds reasonable, depending on the size and chassis. 49K is OK for a 454 or a 460. And $11,300 just screams "Give me 10K and I will kiss your feet." Might be able to go 9K if you're feeling frisky. Just make sure you do your due diligence on the bigger one. Good Luck.
  14. Whatevs man. I like the deals I got, you like yours.
  15. He probably needs to move it fast, so he sent you a second set as bait. That might mean he will come way down from $11,000. It does look pretty nice. Those leather recliners are a nice addition. I'm not sure, but that might be custom striping and paint too. I'm not real familiar with the markings on Sunraders, but I though most of them were pretty much devoid of wide striping.
  16. I'll stick with what I have. I don't want to buy someone else's problem phone and I refuse to buy stolen goods. I can afford to shell out a couple hundred every couple years or so, and anyway it's a tax write-off, so in effect, I get it back. I have a feeling that the extra money I spend on new probably works out to less than ten bucks a month over the course of two years, so why not have the newer technology, as well as a phone that will be under warranty, for at least the first year? And I beg to differ on the quality of the phones on VM. I looked at a Samsung Galaxy of theirs a couple months ago, and I think it was about $225, and that was in store. I'm sure I could get it for less online. As you know the latest Galaxys are considered the best mass-produced phone on the planet, considered even better than an I-phone. They are also the #1 selling phone. So why bother with a two year old phone off CL when I can go new for a fairly cheap price?
  17. It's CL man. I feel your pain. I love Craigslist, but anymore it's almost not worth looking at. Gotta keep plugging away though, because you never know when a good one will show up. I still can't believe I hit on mine. It was a complete shot in the dark. Under normal circumstances I would have looked at the ad, said to myself, "Overpriced," and completely ignored it. I've seen enough of these things listed in the 4-6K range to last me a lifetime, so I tend to blow right past the ads. I suggest using Searchtempest.com. It's a great way to power search across whole states and regions. You just dial in your zip, distance, prices and, make, and it will give you a whole list of cities that you can go through.
  18. Oh I know, out here we call ourselves the Michigan Diaspora. You can't go anywhere in this country without seemingly tripping over someone who has left the state. The economy there is simply too erratic for most people to make a good life for themselves.
  19. Cricket is fine and they are nationwide. But there are drawbacks. And they make you over pay for phones too, so that's a wash. I don't have the numbers at hand, but I did research this earlier in the year, and the best deal, dollar for dollar was Virgin. First the phone isn't perfect, but it is an LG on the Android platform, so it can still do a lot of things. The only downside I have found is that the internal memory sucks. I fixed that problem by rooting the phone, getting rid of the bloatware, and forcing everything I could onto the MicroSD card. I got one of the first LGs they had last year, and when I downloaded an app to turn the phone into a wifi hotspot, I had no problems. Subsequent updates to the phone's software blocked that ability. Again, rooting the phone solved that problem. I have had as many as two laptops and a tablet logged onto my signal at the same time. It wasn't very fast, but on the other hand we were all on line and taking care of business. Now, it is true that Virgin throttles your broadband after you have downloaded 2.5g in a month. But, 2.5g of data is a lot of bytes. You would have to download a fair amount of junk (YouTube vids, music, porn, whatever) to get to 2.5g. I am not a huge video watcher, but I have gone over the limit two or three times. First, it seemed like they took several days before they finally got around to throttling your account, and Second, it really didn't slow anything down, unless you went right back to downloading large amounts of data. Getting to your email, banking, cloud-based databanks, etc. was not affected in any significant way. There was another company that was very competitive with VM. That was MetroPCS, who are also on the Sprint network. One nice thing about MPCS is that it is on in 4G wherever you can get it, as opposed to VM's 3G, which means data download speeds are a lot faster. Also, they didn't throttle your broadband until you hit 3.5g for the month, IIRC. Plus, and I don't know if this is the norm, but the store I inquired at was willing to root the phone right on the spot so that I could download the wifi app without it being blocked. The downside is that if you live in an area where MPCS doesn't do business, or you want an area code whre they don't do business, they can't do it. I found this out when I was attempting to change over from VM to MPCS during the summer. I liked the idea of having 4G, plus the extra gig of "fast" data, even if it was going to be, I think, about $15 a month more, which was not a big deal to me. I tried to port my South Texas number to their system and found out that, even though MPCS is based in Ft. Worth TX, they didn't have any outlets in South TX. Very odd, but oh well. I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing a number I have had since I moved to TX seven years ago, so it was no dice. So I stick with VM. It ain't perfect, to be sure, but it does work. and it's only about $44 a month, taxes included, for 1200 minutes, unlimited texting, and the aforementioned data. Considering that when I had my Blackberry on Sprint I was paying around $175 a month for the same service, I can't really complain. But once MPCS moves into So. TX I am definitely going to look back into porting over to them. BTW, I am sitting in a parking lot right now, wishing the rain would stop so I could do some work on the outside of my Toy. In the meantime, I am on line through my phone's hotspot. No nead to go to McDeaths, the coffee shop, library or anywhere else. I love the 21st century. ps...A quick search on Goog showed nothing for a soldevei 50 cell plan or company. Also, I have no idea what the OR cell phone assistance plan is, but I think I like it.
  20. Interesting point. I kind of agree with you that the renters are really the homeless ones, but that society at large doesn't look at it that way.
  21. It used to be really nice up there, but now I hear that Traverse is huge. It's been a long, long time since I've been back to Michigan (almost 14 years), so I have no idea how things are there anymore, only what I hear from my friends. I used to spend time up around Lewiston in the summers. Used to own a piece of land just outside of a small town named Meredith, about 12 miles south of Houghton Lake. Always meant to build the cottage there, but events conspired to take me away from home. For insulating the windows, I would think about getting some of that -foil backed, bubble wrap stuff from the Home Despot. You could cut it to the size of the window and use velcro around the frame of the window to attach it. I got the idea from somewhere else on this site, and it sounded like a winner. Bubble wrap is a very underrated insulator. Might be worth experimenting with.
  22. You are probably right, but this thing still isn't worth 11K. Did anyone get the pics from the seller? What does the unit look like?
  23. Yeah, sorry to hear about that. The parts market is so competitive that the chains (Pep, Autozone, Advance) all sell crap. Napa is good, but you gotta pay for it. Their prices are usually about 30-50% more than the other guys on components. But at least their stuff is reliable, so its worth it. I went through alt problems with my class B. Went through three in one year. Well, three "official" ones anyway. It was actually more like seven by the time the shop was done with the job. I took mine into a shop when the original alt started acting up. They ordered one from their supplier, and the guy who was installing it clocked the alt wrong and blew it up. I'm sure most of you know what I mean by "clocking." Anyway, this kid blew up five, count'em FIVE, alts before they finally got an old-timer in that knew how to dial in an alt that wasn't configured right out of the box. Of course that wasn't the end of the problem. A few months later the alt stopped charging and I had a dead battery. I started fiddling around with it and as soon as I reached in back of the alt, I felt the pos. post and it practically came out of the alt and right into my hand. The post was broken and likely it had been operating that way since installation. What a nightmare. First, it took two days to do a two hour job, then that two-day job was screwed up. Needless to say, they did all the fix-up work for free, and even threw in an oil change and a minor tune-up on the house, but damn, they sucked. I never returned there again. Funny thing is they have a huge positive rep in their area. Makes me wonder about how little people actually expect from the people they pay to do work for them.
