  1. Yeah sounds reasonable. I also hear that that propane has a octane level of 100-110. Wonder what that does to these old engines. :-)
  2. Here you go - Previous owners put the far view mirrors above and far forward mounted on angle iron on the overhead cab. Does compromise the seal in a way but I can see the edge of the back end of my rig to a "T" and can back park on a dime. Pictures are worth a thousand words!
  3. Wow! What makes rock crawing better using propane than gas? Wonder how running propane would fair going up 12,000 foot moutain pass with a house on your back?
  4. Exactly! FWIW I have a Honeywell 2000 and it's a piece of crap. Failed on me only after a couple of uses. Changed oil, pugs air/fuel filter and flushed the carb. To the junkpile it goes. I don't know about other portables but service and parts for Honeywell are nonexistent. I could not even find a simple fuel filter.
  5. For awhile now I've had this slight drip of tranny fluid and about 1/8th inch play in the propeller shaft. I took her into the shop today and had the bushing and seal replaced. They gave me the old bushing to show the wear it had. My Toy has 94,000 miles on it and I'm pretty sure the bushing has never been replaced before. I do think the slight leak and play are the signs. Cheers!
  6. Nice! You had your rig with you? Thinking of getting my membership, at least for overnight stays.
  7. Those signs are good and I guess I would be just as mad. Funny to see how things never change but yet they do. A Wallmart here in Marysville, WA had NOP here since I can remember. That all changed when Cabelas came in next door and set aside parking specifically for RVs and 18 wheelers. The NOP signs at WM came down. One thing nice about parking at Cabelas is you can sleep on that "just gotta have" purchase, like the nice derringer that I was after. ;-)
  8. 45 years and we're still getting away with it, whatever that is.
  9. The abuse of Walmart RV parking is evident in my area. The one I used to patron now looks like nomads corner. Old shabby RVs with dogs outside barking, trailers parked and unattended. Yes abuse of the privilege The only reason for me staying at a Walmart is not being able to find space at an existing campsite or getting to the campsite too late to register. I find it much better to find a casino or suitable place to park overnight if I cannot camp at a campsite. In Washington casinos will charge $15-25 and have basic electric hookups. Most always have vacancy. Now I find that in California, casinos are usually free for overnight stays. That was in the Palm Springs area. Much better staying at a casino than a rest stop. Rest stops in California are freaky scary, especially at night! Stopped at rest stop in Indio and thought I was in hell. I ended up in town in a grocery parking lot near Bob Hope blvd to catch a couple hours of sleep felt a lot safer. Lucky we didn't get a ticket.
  10. Towns around my area such as Bellevue don't allow residential parking of motorhomes, even for the owner to park their own in the driveway. Cannot be visible from the street view as has to be out of sight like parked on the side of house and fenced out of view. I suspect what others have said that the nomads spoil it for many. This made news last week: Camper fire revals RV nomads living on city streets
  11. I saw this posted over at the Yahoo group that got me thinking: "Unless you are positive that nothing but Toyota pink coolant has been used in your engine, there is a good chance that there will be head gasket deterioration. When I overheated my 22R-E and blew a head gasket, the mechanic predicted exactly where the failure occurred, and he was right, #4 cylinder, and there was a lot of gasket deterioration around cooling passages, no doubt from the Green antifreeze in the engine for a number of years." I use the 50/50 green stuff and that's what was in it when I got it almost 2 1/2 years ago.
  12. Yeah, If I'm dry camping and need the extra heat I cook a bedtime snack in the oven. Your oven will heat the area up for at least 3 comfortable hours. Works too if I'm in a pinch and low on battery juice. Who said the oven is a useless appliance to have around? ;-)
  13. Let's play! Lets run this underground that way we can play around and get it to our likings. If we get serious we can take it further and get it on the www. Plan - Fire up the local server here at home, Running Fedora Linux, Apache and Mysql Lite for the database. I'll install a vanilla load of FUDforum (Fast Uncompromising Discussions) to start. A very nice forum software base (free). Very secure and easy to maintain. Later this week I will PM you with a local URL. Register and I will pass you admin rights and we go from there. Sound good? ;-)
  14. Totem, I can help and have the same experience as you. I would skip the donations as maintaining the forum is not that hard and not much time involved, if you pick the right software. ;-) In fact I can work on setting up a dummy forum as a test bed here locally, we could try different flavors. ;-) To preserve what is here would need a php converter and permission to convert IP board into the new forum format. Hey, think of a good domain name. The last forum we setup cost about $160.00 for 2 years, unlimited space. No reason to run these bot infected advertisements. I would cover that cost for a new forum with no questions asked!
  15. Without good communication from your admins Linda I would be very concerned about the longevity of this site and health. I suspect a crash & burn scenario soon. Start screen-scraping and get that information you rely on the most here.
  16. Is it stable now or our are we still having issues? Nothing more then a little message saying that little problems being sorted out. Tried posting the same question on the yahoo mini-toy forum, must have got snubbed by the terminators (moderators). ;-) What date did we restore too? Totem indicates his old avatar came back to life. Happy New Year!
  17. Yeah, Here on the left coast 87 octance is ($2.75/US gallon). Haven't seen that in years! Time to do some sight seeing!
  18. Would they extend the life of your battery and alternator, if so how much?
  19. Linda - Starting a Wiki would be the best way to keep good information, at least from a high overview. Forums and companies like Yahoo can go in a heartbeat. Yes I run forums but I have disaster-recovery in place and can run a mirror copy from the server here at the house if needed. Even then I could get disgruntled and shut it down. Oh well.. do the best you can. Lot of folks do keep stuff stored on the local hard drives, just takes a while to re-propagate back out to the masses.
  20. Couple of weeks ago I intended to drain the hot water tank for the winter ahead. So I popped open the drain cock and let the water drain till it stopped. I went to find my 3/4 inch plastic plug for the anode when I removed it. I could not find the plug and so I put off pulling the anode. Today I went to Home Depot and got a new plastic plug. OK, so I took my crescent and loosened the anode rod. There was some water squirting but seemed fine to me. I loosened the rod some more and BOOM! The anode rod shot out of the heater like a bullet. I was soaked from head to toe with little white flakes from the anode all over me. Yes I laughed at first but then found the anode rod 30 yards away in the neighbors driveway, whoa!. My guess is the pressure must have collected in the tank during the 2 weeks. Probably would have been wise to open the drain cock again and open the hot water spigot to let out pressure before attempting this. Yikes, take heed and learn from my stupidly, be safe!
  21. Space is cheap! 50 message limit for your private mail is pretty lame.
  22. Why do new stripes? Looks good naked.
  23. Curious if you drained the tank before replacing the valve? How did you go about it?
  24. I have no AC is the house, of course we live in the Pacific Northwest. However there are days when it gets stuffy so the family migrates out to the toy for some cool air and music. We don't use it that often but when we do...
