  1. Have a safe trip Fred, I'd be surprised to see any border security unless you venture into Mayor Cuomo's neighborhood.
  2. Normally I dry camp (no power hookup). I've spent many weeks at a time in high desert mountain terrain, propane and solar only. Yes temperatures do get above the 100's during the day but keeping the windows open keeps a nice cool breeze coming through. I observe the dark skies at night and take naps during the day. As the sun hits high noon above my rig is the coolest time of day, my napping time. 😉 I only use A/C if hooked to power at the campsite. The generator is not worth the $$ in IMHO plus extra weight. Pay extra for a hookup if you want A/C. Besides even if you have a silent generator, the A/C unit give a good hum of a normal generator IMO. Give the A/C a try before you decide... Gary
  3. I know a lot of people ditch the air conditioning for the weight and little use. Out west here most houses don't have central air if any air conditioning, me included. However I found keeping my unit that days over 90 degrees we tend to cook outside or in the motor home in the driveway. We certainty use the A/C for these occasions. Every once in awhile I'll end up in a campsite say Yakima desert where it gets to 105 or better, no way could live through that without A/C. All depends on your usage of it. With a V/6 I's say the weight would not be a issue. I grew up in PA so I know the summers are hot and humid, I'd say keep it just for that. Gary
  4. Yes that name would get some strange looks. They could have put some larger windows in, we are lazy love to look at our outdoor scenery from inside. How the hell would you change the rear tire in case of a flat?
  5. Here is an unusual one well... before the Nissan name anyway. Rebuilt engine and the shell looks to be in good shape, wonder if this one has follies? I'd jump but having 2 Toys in the driveway?....who knows.
  6. This one looks in pretty bad shape but some of the windows are there at least from the views. Can't beat free. If I was crafty enough I would put it on this. Still would need a good axle. Lot of bits and pieces floating around.
  7. Ha ha...that would dangerous Linda but 2 to 3 weeks in the Oregon or California desert mountains you are dependent on it. So not a drug per say but a necessity.
  8. I had a weekday outing recently and a sing-along by the campfire with the uke, did a camping rendition of a Clapton classic. The family said I have a couple of missing screws up there... If you want to camp out, you've gotta take some out, propane If you want to get warm, get warm and dry out, propane The blue flame The blue flame The blue flame Propane If you got that food, you want to keep it good, propane When the stove is on, you'll be cooking on propane The blue flame The blue flame The blue flame Propane
  9. Damien, There are at least 2 drain points to take into account, the faucets/cold water tank and the hot water tank. I doubt you'd be able to create a single drain point but I've seen it all to be a believer. I'm sure we all have different setups but here is mine you can take into account for reference. My hot water tank was replaced due to water being left in over the winter, expansion swelled the old tank to where the previous owner had to cut it out from the outside to free it. LOL...Glad I got in there, we have some cob webs to clean out. 😅 You'll see I have hot and cold valves that allow me to isolate the hot water tank from the cold system. This year I haven't used the hot water so I kept it isolated. So basically I have 2 drain points, the cold water tank and the hot water tank. The hot water tank has a drain cock at the top, but I drain all the water by pulling the anode rod plug at the bottom. Here you see a bar code label white plug in it's place. I keep the anode out until I have the use for hot water. Attached is a check list put together to help winterize and refill the tanks in the spring. I guess if you plan on a complete gutting of the inside then go for it. Really though you'll have a big job ahead and I wish that on no-one, if your water holds IMHO there is no reason to re-do. Good luck to you! Gary winter.pdf
  10. Damien, I bet you thought I was talking about Paul McCartney's old band. Looking a newer Toys here on the forum I'm finding not all of us have wings. 😉 For the jack-knife sofa I just have temporary couch cushions in place on a plywood sheet for now. Having a 4 cylinder it was good to get rid of some back pain as well as some weight. Best advise is do small renovations and keep the ability to take it out and camp at the same time. Don't get into a big project and have your baby sit in the driveway for months on end.
  11. That's what I say these Toys have a cult trend going...you got a super deal and vice what people say people do sell them for a good price, it's real!
  12. Dedication to the ads is what it takes and a little thinking you could get a great Toy for under $5k. Out of Central Washington... 1994 ITASC TOYOTA Engine is blown, who knows...very nice dinette in back. Bid $1500 and put $2000 into a new motor and you'll be well below $5k on a decent Toy.
  13. The slide up window shades are the best feature of this RV. You can make it very dark and sleep in 😁
  14. I have had mine for 10 years, many here have had theirs much longer. I would say my favorite thing about them is they are a "cult of personality", people will ask you about your ride and probably get offers to buy it from you. Really though the best thing about these rigs are the wings! Don't know why manufacturers quit making them. You'll find a lot of modification and personal touches from folks on this forum just browse away. I haven't done much modification on mine but over the years I got rid of the jack-knife sofa the most uncomfortable bed on planet earth! I think the must have item to have onboard is coffee but really if you plan on hooking up to city water you need to get a water reducer like this one. I blew out my water lines by not having one and it was a pain to fix. Cheers! Gary
  15. A v6 should have no problem on the hills. Yes I'd give that engine a good going over. If not a do it yourself er get it to a good mechanic. If it were a 4 cylinder I'd say live with it but your v6 should roar up them hills in PA.
  16. Interesting just browsing the forum how many people gave their rig a name, some examples: A Pink Dolphin named Lola A Warrior named Tator-tot A Mini-Mirage named Molly A Seabreeze named Dolly
  17. Looks like you have it based on the plates. Don't know who in their right mind would ever want to give up one of these beauties. That's one to go to the grave with.
  18. The more legit ads I see for these old Toys are the sellers who have named theirs. I love the description of this one, Dudley is definitely part of the family. Dudley the (1983 Toyota) Dolphin
  19. The only way to find out is to respond and go take a look. The description sounds on par with the pictures. For the price you'd be getting a good deal if it's real. Yes there is some work but then again all these vintage toys need work of some sort.
  20. Just a guess but maybe it was disconnected to keep the old charge/converter from cooking the aux battery when hooking up the AC long periods. These old converters do not have current limiting that automatically reduces the voltage when capacity is reached.
  21. Understand but it's not the hackers that are on your site... it's when you login thru HTTP at your device your sending your username and password in clear text across many server and network hops to get to the forum. A hacker on any part of that hop can see this information. The forum software plays no part in HTTPS secure authentication, so it needs no newer format . The DNS backbone server is where you need to implement the SSL certificate to enable HTTPS. I see that directnic is the DNS that hosts this forum and yes they are a ripoff when it comes to help keeping you secure, looks like they have a yearly fee of $42.00 for SSL. Sad because my sites are with Dreamhost and the "Let's Encrypt" SSL certificates are free with a click of a checkbox. DNS providers like GoDaddy and many other off this basic service for free. Ironic as it seems this site does a good job using 2 factor authentication and Captcha for registration and posting thus denying hackers access but doesn't provide the "very basic" function of keeping our own members personal data like username and password secure from these hackers. Why doesn't Greg implement a simple donation button? Pretty easy with apps like PayPal. I'd easily give $20 a year to keep things rolling. I'm sure others would donate too. Cheers!
  22. When signing into the forum now my browser tells me that the connection for entering my password is insecure and could be compromised, eavesdroppers or attackers could steal it. Tired putting an https:// in front and it didn't work. Can one of the administrators make this a secure connection? Most websites I visit now are secure, especially ones that require logins including other forums I visit.
  23. This import company in Seattle has been selling newer motor homes and commercial vehicles from Japan. The 4WD is something to have but the right-hand drive and the left-hand column stick shift would take some time getting used to. Nice coach form to the chassis on these newer toys.
