  1. Well nobody seems to care but me. I'm good with that!
  2. I've had a soft entry step since I got my Gran Ville over a year ago. Well it had a retractable steel step attached underneath that was bent and needed to go. I couldn't get the rusty bolts out so I grabbed the Axe and using the blunt end and knocked it out. I then pulled the plywood side walls to the steps. I rebuilt the step in about 2 hours or so yesterday. The step itself was constructed of 2 X 2 and half inch plywood. Not too bad. here is what was in there. I don't have any pics of the after because I had already secured the carpet back down but it is good and strong! The Beer was post rebuild celebration! The wife and I took her to Brunswick Family Campground on the Potomac river. It was nice to step in and out and not feel like the step was going to fall out!
  3. After having a bit of rough idle and knowing everything else was covered I checked my valve clearances yesterday. Well all of my valves were too tight! I checked before loosening the lock nut and I couldn't get an .008 in the exhaust valves when they are set to .011 cold. That was all I needed to know. I proceeded to attempt to put .011 feeler gauge in the remaining exhaust valves and it wouldn't fit. same with the intakes at .007 I adjusted all the valves and replaced the gaskets and wow! Idles smooth and runs fantastic! I can definitely feel more power and better throttle response. For those of you who are reluctant to do this I can assure you it is easy and well worth the effort.
  4. When I changed mine I drained and replaced the filter/gasket. Then I refilled, took the return line off at the radiator. I used a clear plastic bottle with a mark on it for one quart. I had my brother start the rv. I let it run till one qt came out. shut off the truck and put one qt in. We repeated this process unit fluid was coming out clear red. If I remember correctly it took about 11 qts. I used the Walmart Dex VI which is a full synthetic and the cheapest place I found DEX VI. My trans shifts smoother and I know all the fluid was replaced. I did a drain and fill this spring and plan to do that each spring from now on. Good Luck!
  5. I took my 85 Granville up to Canaan Valley here in Wet Virginia last winter. Snowed the whole way up. I never slid once! When I arrived there was about 8 in of fresh snow in the campground. no problems! It got down in the low 20's at night. I did have shore power. I used a small ceramic heater and it would run you out of the RV. The furnace never had to come on because of the electric heat. On the way home I was nervous about descending the mountains but again had no issues. I downshifted the auto trans to a lower gear and kept my speed down. These rigs are heavy so they don't slide easily on snow. Ice is a different story for any vehicle! I also used my RV during hunting season with temps in the 20's at night. I have one battery and it ran my furnace through the night no problems. stayed nice and warm. I did run my generator every morning for 30-60 minutes to keep the charge up. I wouldn't recommend trying to use the water system if its gonna be real cold.
  6. I'm changing my trans pan gasket and filter screen tomorrow. Any tips or advice like torque specs etc?
  7. I finally installed my new Monroe gas magnum shocks I ordered last year from shock warehouse. all I can say is WOW!! My fronts were evidently replaced before as they were rusted up Gabriel's. The rears were unidentifiable. Both front and rear were completely shot. I took her out for a road test and it was much better. When passed by big rigs I wasn't shaking side to side as before. Anyhow if you don't like the way your rig rides get those shocks replaced!!
  8. Hello all. I thought this might be a fun thread. I bought my Granville last April but didn't use until July. It had 59 Kmiles when I started out. I now have 69Kmiles. I have been to Key West. Jacksonville Fl twice. Myrtle beach and some local trips. It seems to add up quick!! What do you guys do?
  9. Walmart is definitely the place to get this stuff. I used the supertech Dex VI in mine and its been great!!
  10. Oh yeah. I forgot that I adjusted the idle. set ignition timing and changed the oil and filter. @ Linda. I did not but I was looking at those while looking around at my vacuum lines. I will get them soon. I also adjusted my A/C idle up.
  11. I installed a new CSF 3 row radiator. All new heater hoses. upper and lower Rad hoses. A new alternator. replaced some trans cooler lines. next i'll be installing my new shocks and the exhaust pipe from the manifold to the cat. The worst part of todays work were the damn trans cooler lines. Ugh.
  12. I have a 1985 Granville 22REC auto. I thought I read somewhere that these rigs came on the DLX extra cab chassis. I have been using that when searching for parts. I currently need to replace the exhaust pipe from the manifold to the cat. It seems there are several options. Funny that the autozones and such don't show the 85 as having 22REC. they all just list carbed trucks for an 85 DLX. Anyhow I'm looking at walker exhaust site and it lists a 22REC for 1985 and list the Y pipe as they call it as part #45405. Has anyone replaced theirs? The other places are trying to sell me something else. walkers site says this is for both 103 and 112 in wheelbase with EFI.
  13. I flushed my Trans last year myself doing a passive flush. I used the new Dex VI and shifts are both smoother and more crisp. Others on here have mentioned using the new Dex VI in thier rigs with good results. It is a much better product than both Dex II and III. I have put 9kmiles on it since then and its been great!! Mine is a 1985 22RE auto.
  14. I have an 85 Granville I bought last spring. It had 58k miles when I got it. It now has 67k miles. I changed all fluids as well as some other stuff. They are slow in the hills. You have to learn how to drive it to its fullest potential. As far as the quality the Granvilles are nice I think. tastfully done inside I think. not the ugly plaid stuff like some. I have driven mine to Key West and back to West virginia. Jacksonville fl and back as well as a trip last weekend to Myrtle Beach area. I try to stay away from hills and mountains but its doable. If the Radiator has not been upgraded to a 3 row do that. Also get an aux transmission cooler installed. my trip last week I got an average of just over 15MPG. good luck and have fun!! Keep your speeds around 55MPH for best fuel milage!!
  15. I currently have the OEM Toyota 2 stage thermostat that is supposed to solve the problem that 85mirage mentioned about temp getting high on initial warmup then being normal. The gauge seems to be linear as it goes up. No sudden jumps or anything. When I had my original clutch fan back in it the temp never got above 1/3 but it was on all the time which was loud and sucked down my gas milage. It seems I need a bigger Rad as its fine up to a certain point then its gets high temps. I am going to put another temp sensor in to see if that helps. So back to my question. Has anyone used the CSF 2314 in a pre 86 truck? Shaggy
  16. Don't think so. they are all metal units. really nice. i should have gotten the 3 row to start with!! Ugh
  17. OK. I replaced my Rad back in the summer last year with a CSF 850 2 row. Well its not cutting it for me. I went to Myrtle beach this past weekend and all was well on the way down with temps in the 40's. on the way back with temps in the low 60's the rig would heat up at highway speeds. approaching the upper white line as before. I have replaced all hoses, belts, water pump, 2 thermostats 3 fan clutches, 2 radiator caps and of course coolant. It seems that the rad is fine until ambient temps get above 60 and then it starts to heat up. It has never overheated but it really annoys me to see it that high. So I'm looking at a 3 row CSF to replace my 2 row. The funny thing is the CSF 850 says it will fit 85 and up but the CSF 2314 says its only for 86 and up but not an 85. They have the same core Height and width. Another funny thing is they list the CSF 2306 for an 85 but it has a different core size than the 850 and 2314. So has anyone fitted a 2314 in a 1985 22RE Toybox. I want the 2314 because it is shorter like my 850 and I don't want to get it and have fitment problems. If you have done it let me know. Shaggy Sorry for the crappy pic. I was driving ya know.
  18. Got about a foot of heavy wet snow last night and today. I know this is bad for the Toy so I head over to my Dad's house where it is parked to get the snow pushed off the roof. While doing so I noticed the cap over my vent pipe is missing. I'm hoping I can just buy a cap to snap on there so I don't have to replace the whole thing. Anyhow besides the weight of the wet snow being a bad thing having all of that weight with all the moisture in the snow can help push water into places it might otherwise run off without getting to. so get that snow off your roofs folks!
  19. I agree with waiter on this one. I've seen the PCV system cause oil consumption problems. It seems to be worse at highway speeds. If you have no evidence of a leak and no obvious burning signs like smoke from the tailpipe. PCV's are cheap. A good place to start if you don't have a leak!!
  20. Here is my 1985 Granville. I got this last April. Anyhow I never posted it in here. Here she is!!
  21. I know this in not an RV but it is a Toyota!! I went out for a drive today into Sleepy Creek wildlife management area in Berkeley County WV. Here are a couple of pics.
  22. BTW the Canaan RV park is pretty nice if ya want to go up there in the winter. $20 a night taxes included. No water but there is electric and a nice clean heated bath house. If you make arrangements with the front desk at the lodge they will have the shuttle come to the campground to take you up to the slopes.
