  1. 38 - Owned my first toyota home when I was 24. Honeymooned in it for 3 months with the same woman I'm married to now. 5 kids later toy homes got too small but I still really like them. We full timed in a 37' Diesel puller from 2011 to 2012 with our kids (youngest 3 months old when starting). The diesel has an AISIN Transmission (toyota) so maybe it counts. Currently own 2 sunraders... one a 87 cream puff and one a tear down camper shell that will some day get morphed into a Toyota Land Cruiser.
  2. Thats quite the crew for a 21' rig! I like it.... nothing like a road trip griswold style!!!
  3. If you do decide to replace them and you do it right, I'm sure you will have a sense of accomplishment and peace of mind that you won't have to do it again in your lifetime. These old rv's just need a little love and maintenance. Thanks for the picture, It really helped me understand.
  4. Mike, of the toyota's 22re is my fav engine. I'd rather have stick but autos are great. The sunrader is one of the best one IMHO because they really don't leak and rot like the others. The V6 doesn't really give much more oomph and you will go slow over the mountains, but it will be a slow go either way. I drive a 2010 coach diesel and always keep it under 55 anyways... yea I can go 80 but life goes fast.... so I try to slow it down a little and enjoy the scenery. Your Looking and I might be selling... send me a message.
  5. Yes thanks, Its for the cabinet door slides. Congrats on your SR! How are you cabinet slides?
  6. I did a search on this here and didn't get any hits. I have this in my Sunrader.... over time it gets old and needs replacing. If you want to replace with the original style there are a few companies out there. Here is a link. I'll post a picture of mine here soon. I believe the Sunrader cabinetry uses the T611. http://www.surfacingsolution.com/Tambour.htm
  7. Ok, Game on... Looking for an 80 series. Let me know if you see one thats been flipped! I did not know that is has already been done before and is close to what I'm thinking.
  8. Yea, same here with the Camper shell... when I took the cabinets out, everything collapsed.
  9. do you have a picture? What rig?
  10. Hub Bolt Part #'s for a 1985.8 to 1986.8 Toyota Truck 1 ton Axle. Reverse threaded (righty loosy, lefty tighty) I've searched through here and found conflicting information on which part number you need for the reverse threaded Rear Dually Hub bolts. 2 weeks ago, I had Les Schwab put some tires on my 87 Sunrader and when taking it off their main gun couldn't get the job done. So the kid went and got a bigger gun and spun the nut/bolt right off. After the 2nd one, I asked him to go get his manager. 3 hours later, I had makeshift right threaded bolts in there for another 200 Mile trip home. I want original OEM items on this rig... I will not settle for anything else when it comes to the Vital safety parts. After researching this site and other sites and calling toyota etc, I think I have finally concluded what parts are needed to correctly replace the Hub Bolts, washer and backing nut. Hub Bolt: Original Part No: 90942-02057 $6.00 Backing Nut: Original Part No: 94115-71400 Replaced By:94130-01402 $.32 Washer: Original Part No: 90201-14006 $.47 You will need 6 of each per side. I don't recall seeing the washer when they took the backing nuts off but have ordered them anyway and Les Schwab will pay me back. Please let me know if this conflicts with what you've seen and Add your Year Part number's to this thread to help others in the future. TIP: Always give toyota the VIN # of your rig if you have stock axles or the VIN # of the rig the axles came off of so they can clearly give you the right part number. Hope this helps!
  11. I've sold an rv on ebay... but it was 12 years ago! It sold for 5500... been a long time. Maybe someone will just have to have it and come across it. In the meantime, I'll be fixing i up so its worry free to the most point.
  12. No Idea yet.... I see them out there for 12-15k with higher mileage. What do you think a good price for it would be?
  13. I don't but if you take it off, there might be a manufacturer label under it. That might be a good start for you.
  14. Make a door out of some white tin... a RV parts store might have the right size too or something close. Not sure, but I'd think that the doors would be common on many RV's. HOLY DUCT TAPE BATMAN!
  15. Ok, here is 24 Minutes of your life you will never get back... but will show you what a nicely taken care of unit looks like. http://youtu.be/Z71yHgDLCno
  16. I have a video of the 21' 25k mile rig that I'm in the process of flipping. I was going to keep it as a rental unit till I Looked at my piggy bank. I'll likely be selling it in a few months, but like everything... subject to change.
  17. Its only a shorty dream at this point, however I am on the prowl.... one can dream. I think your on to something here but you're not supposed to talk about it because if everyone else catches on to you strategy... there will be a ton of traffic at 4am.. Shhhhhh
  18. I agree with you. Positives: 1. less traffic 2. If you have kids, -no yelling, screaming or are we there yets 3. Its quiet Negatives: 1. More wildlife out 2. When the sun comes up (If I've driven all night) I get really sleepy in the dawn hours. 3. Wife is asleep with the kids I've learned that if you eat sunflower seeds, you can drive 24hrs straight... if you get sleepy pop some seeds in your mouth.
  19. Well, I've been thinking about this setup for a while now... (few days)... Almost bought a 1990 Toy 4x4 to throw it under.... then I decided not to because I'd have to build it back the way it was and that's no fun. Then I was thinking about a trailer setup... what bajadulce suggested and I think it would just look funny..... then I think to myself... "Self, you're not really doing anything with this FJ60 that's sitting in your yard. Its got 4x4 and is a pretty tough setup.... It has rust in the roofline... so why not just put the shell on the 60?' Just another Idea.... I'd really like to morph it into an 80 series but I don't have any of those laying around. The camper is more rear heavy with the door and If I went this route would Possibly need to reconfigure the interior which would a ton more work..... just thinking out loud.
  20. when the axle sticks out like that... it is a full floating.
  21. ON these, I think axle and drive train.... the rest is scrap... the axle and drive train if taken care of are work 1k... the rest if it works is a bonus. I am one opinion of billions though
  22. wow... I would probably only pay 1k for that... needs to be gutted
  23. I was kidding I won't hack it up... Project Sog was a failure that I didn't finish... it was a whinny though... I couldn't chop up a sunrader!!! You will see a finished product!
  24. Camper jacks, with a little padding on them lift the camper up, you drive under it and lower them onto the truck.. My dad back in the day used to use a big log to get his Camper on his 78 ford and it wasn't a small camper... he was good at it. I'm having a hard time moving it around with my BACK... I'm sure it weighs in at 1200lbs minimum decked out. The camper lost its integrity when it was dropped. After that it was all down hill... it lasted 36 years and died in my yard... not a bad track record with 77 technology. IN its current state, I could lift it up and over a Land Cruiser to see if it would work, however my thinking is that the cut/away portions of the Land Cruiser are not going to be the same weight as the shell with all its appliances and interior in it so I'm probably going to scrap the collision. I can't answer why mr. G decided on the clam shell back end, but its in the 180 Sunrader Motorhome design as well. I think its cool and makes a nice shaded area when propped open. The seals are shot, however the piano hinge isn't. The door is in perfect shape, the left rear quarter of the camper is bowed out about an inch. I have a few tools laying around and am open to ideas... and glassing the whole thing is a good one... Just don't know what route I'm going to head in yet.... but pretty sure the Land Cruiser is out of the question. I already have a personal RV that I use for my family of 6... this would be something that I would morph into somewhat of an excursion type vehicle or sorts. Another IDEA is to take a 8' Truck bed and build it permanently into it... giving more interior space, structure and height (a few inches). Have a nicely built 4x4 Truck with dual rears and pop the whole bed off when not in use and have another flat bed on standby. Its just a toy.. who knows if enough people discourage me, I might just get the sawzall out and chop it up and take it to the dump!
  25. Linda S, they say "when life gives you lemons.... squeeze them into your hard liquor!" 4 guys picked this up off a truck and set it on the ground. I'm sure thats possible but each guy would of had to lift at least 300lbs. I cannot pick up the shell alone so its got to weigh around 400lbs+. Those guys were way more man than me. I was able to pull it around back and started to get it off the trailer, well that turned into getting the sawzall out... I did think of Bajadulce's build the whole time.... Cut out the floor and took off the back door. I took more video's but here is the end result. I mention cleanup... well, I'm going to wait till the kids get home! http://youtu.be/AsU6r9kY9ws I'm waiting on a few parts for the 87 Sunrader... should probably focus on getting that one in 100% top condition before the sale. Enjoy!
