  2. Thanks for the pictures! Just another thought to help you... possibly go back to the scene and take pictures of where you hit and take pictures of the bridge with no markings (once you claim this, they will immediately go out and put a sign up)... do this prior to claiming. The bridge may also have reminents of your collison on it as well... get a close up of that if you can. Hind sight is 20/20 but if it happened to me, I would have taken pictures of it with my camera phone before I backed up (if it was safe) that way you have evidence that you hit there. I really hope it works out for you, by the pictures, it doesn't look like the walls are too messed up.
  3. Well, I have a Large lot up by Microsoft (Redmond, WA) if you need a place to recharge for a few days. Any Sunrader is welcome in my back 40.

  5. Here we go. Time for an engine swap... here is what the engine in it sounds like. Interior part of pulling the engine - Done Engine bay - 1/3 done 3 More hours and the Engine will be sitting on my garage floor. My son helping me a bit The health of the plugs... yikes been a while since they were replaced.
  6. Wow, you have done a ton to your rig, its really coming together. Is this one of the little 18' rigs. Never seen a bathroom in one. Very very cool rig. Where are you all going to trek?
  7. Thats awesome! Doh! I remember when I got our first toyhome in 2000. We were going through NYC and I missed the sign that said no RV's or Trucks... The tunnels were arches and there were no exits to get off on, we had to make it through by taking up 2 lanes of traffic.... FAIL on my part. I cannot remember the tollway through the city now but someone here may know it.
  8. If you factor in the hourly rate... then I work for less than 3 rice and 2 beans. Good point. I bought a new 37' Diesel Puller coach in 2010 for my family, even new coaches off the factory floor have issues. Mine had 25k worth of warranty work the first year. I need to do a ton to it right now, replace the screen door (kids went through it), replace a hinge on the door, fix the floor, buy replacement shades, figure out why the check engine light is on, fix one of the slide cables that broke (for the second time).... the list goes on and on and on. No matter what you buy, it will eventually break and require time and money, however what you buy up front and the condition of that is where you Start the endeavor. Modernizing a coach takes money too like you say... 80's/90's to today. You can fit a flat panel TV in there much easier! And technology for WIFI/MIFI is millions of times better (well because it didn't exist then). If you start with a coach that needs to be gutted and you can do the work - great, but if you are someone that simply wants to buy a dependable rig and use it turn key, the closer to new condition the better.

  10. Didn't read the complete thread, but we used other peoples networks during our 1 year road trip around the US. For this we used a Rogue wifi from http://www.landandseawifi.com/ I'm not using ours anymore, but will again when we travel.
  11. I fully respect your opinion. I think (fully my opinion) Fiberglass RV's of old that get good mileage and are still together (in good condition) actually demand more money. Todays technology is getting better and they are able to get more MPG out of some newer RV's however, you will also empty a good chunk of your wallet to obtain one. It really depends on who you are. One thing that isn't arguable is that the Sunrader continues to climb in value as its one of a few Toyota campers that is still together (if kept outside). They are slowly hitting the junk yards but less often than other non fiberglass coaches. Its all perspective, you can buy another RV much cheaper but will it last long? and how much maintenance will you have to put into a wood/styrofoam camper vs a fiberglass one? Its the basics of supply and demand. As the years get along and GAS is still affordable, these rigs are actually an investment. You buy one, yea you might pay a lot more than another 30 year old camper.... but it won't go down in value if you take care of it. You use it for 10-20 years and take care of it with regular maintenance and then you resell it for market value. I'd compare the Sunrader to Gold. But this is only my feeble opinion.
  12. hmmm I'm thinking OP doesn't have pictures and I doubt an overpass wouldn't be marked unless it was a personal bridge of some sort. Government/state has learned this lesson in the 50's. Post up some pictures and prove me wrong though!
  13. Curious find today when replacing the tires on a Sunrader I own. The Vin plate looks to have been welded over with a Toyota Chassis Vin. It is different in the prefix... however the numeric value matches the Vin on all other places on the Coach. Was it common for Mr G to weld over the original chassis vin or is this a one off? If this is common does anyone know why this was done?

  16. I have a 2010 Gulfstream - on a side note, never buy anything new from them. They don't document their builds period. Every vendor I've worked with will tell you the same thing. I don't know of a worse company to deal with.... my 2 cents. This is after 25k worth of rework and its still not right. I like napa for common parts so I'll second Linda.
  17. inny minny miny ..... Just need about 4 guys to help me lift the empty carcass up over one of the 80's now. but I need to seriously think hard about what I want to accomplish before I get the crayons and scissors out and start cutting. I'll get the engine swapped out and think think think till its time. Want to see pictures of the swap? It will one day be a Toyota Motorhome... just not the standard one we are used to seeing.
  18. Found one with a bad engine - Wife wants me to give it to her though after I put a spare engine I have laying around.... so Might cut up our lexus. Which one do you think I should chop... the one in front or the one in back? I might not be able to chop our lexus either.... Both are Locked K294
  19. Check around the bed area, very comon leaking area. If the wallpaper is lifted or you can put your finger through the walls... you should probably pass if you aren't handy. Or you could buy a costco canopy and put it under it and let it dry out and then slowly go at it over the summer if you are handy. There is a ton to look at on these.... spend a few hours on this forum and you will get a good understanding of most of the stuff. I'd consider time here a good investment into a future purchase.
  20. Yes seems to be priced right if a good runner, but plan on spending many hours and likely many dollars getting it back in shape. Its a good deal if you are very handy and can go through it, a waste of money if you don't have the skills. You'd be better off buying a really clean RV and enjoying it up front.

  22. Welcome to the boards here! Check this out. The bed is standard that way... Mr. G made it that way. Mine is a 1977 there is a tag drivers side front left 3. no clue, but they come up here and there on craigslist. Congrats and start a thread with some pictures!!!
  23. I'm just curious and want to stay on topic. Has anyone mounted it on the front of their rig? Would it distribute the weight better?
