  1. Weber carbs work well in 4 cyl motors. Used them on all my Opel GT's. Once they are set up properly are bulletproof and smog legal.
  2. Ours starts off the coach battery, one of the wires on the red side is huge, several smaller wires on grnd side. Looks factory but who knows.
  3. I really like having my Onan, very handy. If I did not have it at 3K $ I might not get one, but if you have it already I say keep it. With the generator you can also use it for heat, we like the Pelonis B6A1 for both the RV and home.
  4. jdemaris" Also, stuff like Mobile 1 "extended mileage" oils have the higher anti-wear additive levels. I tend to just use Shell Rotella T in all my cars and trucks. I called the 1-800# for Mobil 1 and they told me with my RV and mileage to use the High Mileage ( over 75,000) oil. Is that what you were refering to? I ask because they also make an oil called something near that but it's meant for extended oil changes. The high vehicle mileage Mobil 1 is only carried around here at the one O'Reilly parts store on Geary Blvd. No one else stocks it seems. What do you use in your Toyota V6???
  5. My Toy doesn't run hot at high speeds, it's when I'm going up a steep hill in first / second gear. At that time engine speeds are high , but low road speeds. When I had much larger radiator and water pump put on my 71 Dodge, 318 V8, 2 barrel carb, A-727 auto trans, 3.55 rear end, van it still ran too hot at 75 to "no comment" MPH in the valley. The shop then put on the 6 blade deeply valanced fiberglass fan and WOW instant huge improvment!! If the blades are flatting out at speed how did that work so well, maybe not all the fans are made the same. When I quit racing and used her to tow an loaded 18' OB boat no problems either. I think the cooling system made by Toyota on this truck wasn't designed for the way we are using these RV's and doesn't work well in hot weather.
  6. jdemaris I'm still wondering exactly what sort of power steering system it is. All the OEM Toyota systems that I've seen use a power steering pump and a power steering box. Nothing else. Yes, and the pict looks like mine except I've got the V6 so the large air box assy and hoses block that view of the gearbox. Sorry for the confusion.
  7. Well I am wrong. As it turns out the oil is for the manual boxes, the power steering box has only power steering fluid in it, according to tech support at Cardone. Also that part number is the only one they make for the 1 ton. Since it's not cheap nor easy for me to change and the leak has pretty much stopped I'm going to just keep an eye on it for now. The fluid level in the pump has not changed so it's not leaking as much as I had feared. I tried to edit my second post and ended up deleting it, sorry.
  8. Toyota dealer said it's all factory, as did several people who looked at it year before last at the Felton Toy-in.
  9. Have a small leak from the steering gearbox. Cleaned up everything and drove it and no leaks now. I cannot find any info from my usual sources except the oil and the amount, 400 cc. hope it's not empty, several questions: 1.. There is a 20mm plug accessible from under the hood with a shallow 10mm allen wrench hole and it's pinned,ie a centerpunch was used at the edge, so it probably won't come out easy. Is this the port to add the oil??? 2... After much looking at the interwebs I could not find one for sale for the 1 ton pick-ups. I got hold of Tech support for CARDONE who did some searching and said only one they make will be the rite part, # 27-8479 . This is not a part # that most stock so they will not order one. But is this the right part, and is this the only one??? Thanks in advance
  10. Back in the day when I worked in electronics I remember seeing small rooms for Ma Bell filled with racks of those. Keep the whole buildings phones running long time when P.G.&E. lost it.
  11. Our heater is noisy but works OK, I am considering whether or not an up-grade is worth it. When plugged in to 120 at campground we are using a small old Pelonis ceramic disk heater that is quiet and works great, we have a bunch at home.
  12. My air conditioner says it's pre-wired for an electric heater element. If anyone has this how well does it work?? And does it work like the air conditioner in that the fan runs all the time whether or not the compressor is running?? On a side note the newer models of the RV propane furnace claim to be more efficient and have multiple fan speeds. Runs fast at first to warm up then slow to finish / maintain temp. Any experience with these??
  13. Well with this, http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2013/how-to-treat-heat-like-light-0111.html Who needs propane anyway? Coming to a heat pump near you in 2017.
  14. Saw this today http://www.gizmag.co...-stove/14952/ , Would make a fine Toy heater?? Big enough??
  15. On my 91 Toy I found all of the roof vents were leaking because the white plastic top parts all had cracks. Fixed with gorilla tape, am going to replace all of them soon.
  16. If you have the old MagnaTek 6300 series convertor the battery charger is adjustable. Lower voltage setting will take longer to charge up but is OK to leave it on, higher settings will charge the battery slightly faster, but will boil the fluid out if left on for long periods of time, check the voltage output of the charger when the battery is fully charged.
  17. Wow, 200 lumens / watt by Cree http://news.slashdot.org/story/12/12/30/0338234/cree-introduces-200-lumenwatt-production-power-leds Maybe the stock alternator is plenty big enough. PDF from them, very informative; http://www.cree.com/~/media/Files/Cree/LED%20Components%20and%20Modules/XLamp/XLamp%20Application%20Notes/LED_color_mixing.pdf I am a 5000 and up cool white guy myself vanman
  18. As long as this engine has been around is there no small turbo or mild supercharger add on ?? If you don't go too far you wouldn't have to lower the compression / change cams. I seem to remember 30 years ago a lot of the voltswagon car owners I knew were doing this. If done properly they had no problems passing California smog, at that time.
  19. I got this : http://www.bestconverter.com/4600-series-Upgrade-Kits_c_133.html , if you have a Magnetec now this is a easy swap. Works pretty much the same as the others insofar as the "smart / wizard" charging system. I believe all the vendors I talked to are using the same charging system electronics, difference is in the converter part of the units.
  20. Depends what you are used to. I grew up in Wisconsin and Michigan, but after 40+ years in mostly constant mid 50's to mid 60's low 40's seems really cold, and mid 90's is too hot. Our advanced age may also have something to do with that ..
  21. Today the rains stopped, sun came out and was warm. Drove the RV around some and ran the gen for a while. Mary and me working on year 33. She is sick now with a bug, but all in all still much to be thankful for. Merry Holidays to all... John & Mary
  22. After getting ours to run well, I thought, I put a digital meter on the acc 120vc outlet. WOW 140 vac light load , microwave takes it down to 128v, air conditioner and microwave take it down to 119vac. You can hear the gas engine load down with the increasing demand, but after a slight dip the speed remains constant. I am assuming the freq is 60 cps, but am no longer trusting this, as I do not have a meter that will measure this. The manual I have (from this site) says you need a resistor bank load for testing and adjustment as well as the proper electric meters, Time for a professional I guess. vanman
  23. Our Toy is a 91 Dolphin, we are much older. Mary is slightly younger than me, and I'm almost 70. vanman
  24. I seem to recall someone posting that the new replacement heaters were more efficient and make less noise. Has anyone tried one of these, and if so how much difference did it make??? Our blower motor squealed for a while , but doesn't anymore, it is however still quite noisy for sleeping. vanman
  25. 5Toyota BUT I THINK YOUR DEALER IS TELLING YOU CRAP THE REAL DEAL IS THE CHILDERN OF TODAY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A PARTS BOOK > Yeah !! the Toyota dealer here tried to tell me the lugnuts were not an OEM part. But when he ordered one to see, lo and behold was exactly the same. vanman
