  1. Be careful of Wisconsin titles, if they show any lien holder's name (like a bank) on it, the title will not transfer. In Indiana, the lien holder actually holds the title until the lien is paid in full and then mails it to the owner. In Wisconsin, the owner holds the title with the lien holder's name on it and once paid in full the owner needs to take the paid in full documentation to the BMV and get a new title issued, without the lien holders name on it.
  2. My frig was working when I purchased my Toyota 5 years ago, but my driveway is not level and we only take short trips so we just purchased two coolers that are barely smaller than the inside of the frig, one is used to hold extra ice, the other the food. On a long trip once, we used the frig as a closet to hold more clothes and just had a large cooler on the floor in the bathroom. Dennis...
  3. I purchased my Toyota from a retired Pastor but the guy pretty much knew nothing and did not have any records. He purchased it from one of the members in his church about a month before he was to retire, took it to a RV dealer and stated make it road ready to go from Northern CA to Indiana. All he knew was that it had three new tires, a new coach AC unit, and new air coils/bags. I got her for a good price and felt a lot better when I found a sticker on the engine that the timing belt was recently changed and by the same RV dealer that my wife's grandma takes her RV to in Northern CA. Since it is a Toyota truck chassis, I do take comfort that most repair places should be able to work on it especially due to its smaller size vs a full size motorhome.
  4. We now have 5 confirmed reservations, and 7 weeks to go!
  5. Question, if one has a Toyota that is covered under the head gasket campaign are there any risks in getting the head gasket replaced if it is not leaking? That is if the current head gaskets have worked for the last 20+ years (and probably 100,000 miles), whats the odds that it is going to fail? Replacing a head gasket is not a simple risk free task. I had a head gasket on a 1986 Toyota pickup done by Toyota only to have a timing chain failure to occur six months later (and they were instructed to replace the timing chain if worn while replacing the head gasket), which I still believe was due to not being reinstalled correctly. I realize it is a different engine, but a lot of parts (more on the V6 3.0) get removed during a head gasket replacement. Dennis...
  6. I finally decided to get Mrs. Clark (our Toyota) out of storage on Friday night. We had her parked on some farm property, wrapped in a roof tarp and a full RV cover. My 12 year old and I decided to campout in it at the farm, we got there on Friday night around 10pm and removed all the covers (always a fun event in the dark) and finally got settled around 11pm. We just pulled out the couch bed and used sleeping bags. About 3am the dog (Scout - Golden Retriever), decided that the bed was probably more comfortable and warm then the hardwood floors, and ended up sleeping between us. Mrs. Clark is now in the drive for her annual maintance and clean-up, getting her ready for the Galena, IL Toyota rally. Dennis...
  7. When I was a kid, my dad would look for a closed (for the night) gas station and park right at the pump. Once in a while we would get a knock on the door by the police to move us along but my dad would just state out of gas and that always took care of it. We did get gas there the next morning. This was mid to northern Wisconsin.
  8. Plug time...If you are located in the Midwest, you could attend the October 4-6 Toyota Rally, it would allow you to see first hand 6 to 10 different floor layouts and can ask questions all day long. The campground does rent out cabins. Dennis...
  9. $2,000....does that sound right? That works out to 20 to 25+ hours of labor. Has anyone else had this procedure done, and if so was it $2,000?
  10. The How-To Demostrations are on demand, that is one makes a request and either I try to do it or we find someone that is attending to do it. We usually do a how to Winterize, popular topic for new owners and being October winter is just around the corner. In the past we have done Demos on how to adjust the rear brake proration brake valve, installing power invertors, installing a new water heater, resealing windows and a couple others that escape my memory at the moment.
  11. Rumor has it that there will be quilt related door prizes and Honey again!
  12. regarding 'winterizing' precautions, I would not count on the heater to keep the water lines from freezing, and if it could, you would have to also run the heater while skiing. One option is to use RV antifreeze to give you non-drinkable water for the bathroom.
  13. You probably could go with chains/cables for the front tires, but not sure about any on the rear duellys.
  14. I had the same issue on the rear window, there is no drain hole there, I drilled an 1/8 inch hole in the middle/bottom and that took care of it.
  15. The only age rejection stories that I have heard about was in Florida.
  16. I have responses that 11 are interested in Galena, so far 4 reservations!
  17. Hello All, A Mid-West Toyota Rally is being held on Friday October 4th to Sunday October 6th, 2013 in Galena, Illinois at the Palace Campground (www.palacecampground.com). It will be Galena’s OctoberFest (Oktoberfest). There will be live Polka (and other) music, Wiener Dog Races, Polka Dance Lessons, Beer Stein Endurance Contest, Cannon Fire, and other related activities. Galena is home to President Grant and the town has several activities from shopping to kayaking. Our group name is "Toyota Motorhome Group". The rate is $33 a night for an electric/water site and $35 for an electric/water/sewer site. Note: The sites with sewers will seperate one from the rest of the group. If we end up with 10 reservations, we will receive a 10% discount. Rates are based on 4-person maximum, $2 a night per extra person. Check in time is 2pm and check out time is 1pm. Please try to make your reservations as soon as possible in order to ensure we can all be together, ideally made before August 31st. For reservations call 1-815-777-2466. Also, you can make a reservation online at: www.palacecampground.com/palace-campground.php but you will still need to call within five business days to make payment, otherwise the reservation will be cancelled. When you call, tell them you are part of the “Toyota Motorhome Group”, and put “Toyota Motorhome Group” into the Comment area if you use the online reservation. This campground usually fills up for this weekend due to OctoberFest. Cancellation policy: There is a 10 day cancellation notice for refund. The campground has free WiFi, laundry facilities, horseshoes, Arcade building, Miniature Golf (fee), and three Bath/Shower buildings. Oktoberfest Schedule: www.galenalions.org/galena-oktoberfest-schedule.asp Camp Ground Map: http://www.palacecampground.com/site_map.html Galena Activities: www.galena.org/calendar/index.php?d=2013-10-4&m=1 www.galena.org/calendar/index.php?d=2013-10-5&m=1 After you make your reservations, please send me an email at bufbooth@yahoo.com so I know who and how many will be attending. The plan would be to have a number of optional events to attend as a group, and maybe lunch/dinner. There would still be the usual activities at the campground such as a pot luck dinner, Toyota Open House, how-to demonstration, group camp fire, RV item swap meet, etc… Thank you, Dennis Booth
  18. Hello vtchris, there will be an Illinois rally, but in October (4th-6th) in Galena, IL I have been late in getting the announcement out, it will be posted over the weekend. Dennis...
  19. If anyone has a serious interest in this I might be willing to look it over for them, I am currently about 30 miles from Whitefish, but only for the next couple days. http://kalispell.craigslist.org/rvs/3919307891.html
  20. The Illinois Safety checks...they have been around for at less 25 years and used the dogs 25 years ago to make sure the trunk was safe. I was able to escape Illinois in 1989 to Indiana. Talk about night and day.. A week after I moved to Indiana I stopped into the police station of the town I was living in and asked to get a sportsman license which sounded a lot like the Illinois FOI card, the policeman asked me why I was not applying for a concealed carry permit instead. I told him that I did not think I qualified for one, he asked me if I was ever arrested or committed in the past and I stated no, he stated that I should not have any issue in getting a concealed carry license, so I applied and got one.
  21. If it is like my 1990 Odyssey, the trans cooler is located on the passenger side of the raditor and in front of it. Also, you will see a non OEM transmission cooler pan that has a line (or two) coming out of it.
  22. Also, your battery might be fine, you might have something draining the power down on you. I had the same thing with my 1990, even after I replaced the battery. After several hours of trying to track down the issue, I gave up and purchased a $5 battery cut off that installs directly on the battery post, it has a knob you turn to disconnect the power.
  23. regarding flushing the rear end, I just pour new oil into it until I see new clear oil draining out, and then put the drain bolt in and continue filling it up. The rear diff. fluid are usually surprising clean, but if you think it needs more attention, just change the rear diff. fluid, put 20 or 30 miles on it and then change the rear diff. oil again.
  24. Also, there is a paper dust gasket that goes on the end of the axle (axle comes out in order to remove brake drum). You might want to order a set of two of them from Toyota before your mechanic does the brake work, they are $1 or two each. You want to use the paper ones (vs some kind of sealant) in case one of your axle seals fail in the future, the paper dust gasket allows oil to drip out which gives you a heads up that your axle seals have failed.
