  1. Everyone discusses there search for the 185 r14, but never mentions if they're a 60, 65, 70, or 75 depth. I need to order tires so they'll be in when I get back into town, however. I'm not sure which specific size/depth is standard. Any advice would be appreciated since there's nobody back home to read me off the tire numbers. Thanks
  2. 130,000 on my Sunland Express and I'll be going cross-country within a month with no hesitation. As long as they were fitted with the larger radiator early in life then I feel they should last just as long as any other vehicle. And warming them up goes a long way. Especially with the 4 cylinder auto trannies. The problems arise from insufficient cooling with the stock radiator. Constant high temps will cause pitting in the aluminum heads leading to headgasket-like problems. Also, most owners just don't bother with basic maintenance. Dried up hoses, clogged fuel-line filters, gas tanks sitting empty for months in variable temps, scheduled oil changes, not using over-drive on the highway (4 cylinder), not even a tarp thrown over to shield from sun and rain, etc. Basic preventitive maintenance that will keep any rig alive.
  3. So it's time to replace the rear duallies and I need the valves replaced since I've had problems with the pump sealing well enough to inflate the tires. Are these metal valves and hoses for the back dually common, or do they need to be custom ordered? Thanks
  4. My generac has a fuel pump. When I removed to replace the starter I added an inline valve to shut off the flow of fuel. My fuel line for the generator sits higher so the fuel is pulled down by gravity after I sifon(spelling?) some into the fuel line. However, as the tank drops to 1/4 full the fuel flow is deprived and the fuel pump or sifon is needed aftter gasing up to get fuel back in the line. Honestely that is the only tim I felt the pump was needed. The good thing about the valve I installed is that I could fill up a portable generator from my main tank with the twist of of the valve. Very convenient and has come in handy many times to gas up my motorbike. Simply pull the fuel line off the generator and you have a personal fueling station.
  5. If you have no choice then make sure to regularly check the seal where the ladder meets the roof so you don't get any leaks. I'm no engineer, but honestly I wouldn't recommend it hanging there for extended periods of time.
  6. I have one of those things mounted as well and they don't do a thing if you've neglected properly maintaining your tank. My lady used to complain that it smelled worse than a chicken butchering plant when using the bathroom while the vehicle was in motion. I ignored it until one day she actually drove while I was sick. It smelt like a rotting body had risen from the toilet. Afterwards I searched online and discovered the trick of using water softener. After several rinses and a switch to my own deodorizing concoction neither of us would hesitate to use the bathroom in motion ever again. Trust me, get the water softener.
  7. I add a bit of water softener every other dump and found that it did wonders for the grey water tank. I read that the water softener helps keep the tank walls cleaner. The black water tank as well has improved and I stopped using all of those expensive tank deodorizers. Instead I use environmentally-friendly laundry detergent and pine sol from the dollar store and it is smelling much fresher. Those RV chemicals are a waste of money IMO. Also, an occasional rinse is well worth the hassle.
  8. Sand the area first to scuff it up. Mix your resin and hardener. Paint it on, lay your cloth, and paint some more. Like fixing a ding on a surfboard.
  9. The frame can handle the draw from a 1,000 pound trailer easily and stress from hitting the brakes, but definitely not tongue weight over 150 pounds. With a trailer my tongue weight almost never even came close to exceeding 80 pounds and I slept better knowing there wasn't as much stress on the rear. Plus beefing up the rear can add a lot of weight. 100 pound for sure if done properly. And as for the front the coach manufacturers stressed never to drive with weight in the overhead bunk due the handling while taking turns. I couldn't imagine driving with a trail bike mounted on the front. Get the hitch and trailer or just get a bicycle.
  10. Can't tell you much about the club part, but I can tell you Good Sam wanted 150 dollars more every six months than Gieco for the same exact insurance policy. Just throwing this out there because I spent half an hour on the phone with them 2 days ago after someone told me they were cheaper.
  11. Unless you take a lot of pride in your lawn just cut across at an angle. Or just drop some pieces of 2 x 4 in the dip to keep her from bottoming out. Worked for me when storing Big Betsy at a friends house.

For 30 bucks total I had one shipped to my door thanks to ebay. The same one you posted a pic of I used to fill in the whole from the AC. Works great, great quality, and now there's more sunlight coming into the coach when the curtains are pulled shut. One of the best things I've added hands down.
  13. Relay at the local auto-parts store cost 6 bucks. The RV parts department wanted 20. Is there any difference? I thought not and installed the cheaper one assuming they preformed the same function. Reinstalled the furnace and everything is working as should, however. I didn't actually get the propane flowing yet because I'm waiting for the pipe sealant to cure overnight. Although, the fan works and I can here the sail switch click followed by the igniter so all looks good. Thanks for all the help.
  14. And I'm still confused as to why the motor would get hot, but not run.
  15. Looking at the wiring diagram and at the unit itself leads me to believe that the relay switch went bad. It looks like a small black cube with wires attached at all 4 sides. Any idea where I can find one?
  16. Well I pulled the unit out an hour ago and noticed a few strange things. I twisted the thermostat wires together earlier one more time to perform a few voltage checks and realized that the fan motor got very hot, but still wouldn't turn over. Went ahead and pulled the unit, gave the fan wires 12 volts and the fan kicked right over and ran smooth. So what's my problem? Is the fan not getting enough juice? I'm gonna do some research on my own, just wanted to post my progress first. Thanks for the help so far.
  17. One of the best decisions I've made was switching from AT&T to a prepaid Virgin Mobile phone. They do use Sprints network, but for 40 bucks a month my phone has unlimited internet, more than enough minutes, Google Maps, GPS, Weather apps, Places app for gas stations etc. Just throwing this out there. I did a lot of research and found this to be the best deal out there. I use the Samsung Intercept and hardly ever use the laptop these days.
  18. While attempting to troubleshoot a furnace problem I've started to look at the problem from a different perspective. I own an 86 Sunland Express with the furnace located beneath the shelves that are directly below the closet door. Closet-shelves-furnace from top to bottom if you can envision the design. The previous owner already rebuilt the shelves in order to extend further back maximizing shelve space, and he actually stored extra radiator hoses and belts next to the furnace in the surrounding space. This is what made me start thinking about ripping out the furnace, installing a small door to cover the whole, install an Olympian Wave 6 on the door, and voila! This set-up not only saves battery power while heating, but also creates a secret storage compartment. Of course this is just an idea and actions do speak louder than words. The reason I decided to share this idea is because I wonder how many of you others have done mods similar to the one mentioned in order to create extra space for clothing, chemicals, batteries, etc. Also, not sure if this was ever posted. I ended up raising the height of the couch by stacking 3 2x4s under the left and right side running front to back. Drilled large holes through them, bought longer bolts, and bolted her right back in as she was prior. Except now she's a few inches higher . All of a sudden the couch actually became comfortable to sit on and there's so much more room underneath! Might have to put in a second water tank for the trips into no-mans land.
  19. The thermostat without a doubt functions as it should, and there is 12 volt power going to the unit. Oddly after about 7 seconds after turning on the furnace I can hear a quiet click that sounds like the gas valve opening. So my question is what is in line to the fan motor? Is the 3 amp fuse on the unit a possible culprit, is there some type of faulty capacitor, or do you think the fan motor is bad/stuck? Thanks for trying to help. Any feedback is much appreciated.
  20. Mine works the exact same way which makes me believe that since there's 12 volts at the thermostat, then there should be power going to the fan. Unfortunately the fan never kicks on to start the process. The wiring diagram shows a 3 amp fuse on the unit. Is it unlikely that it blew?
  21. I know we're halfway through spring, but I need everything functioning the way it should just in case. Randomly my furnace stopped working and I can't figure out what's wrong. Duo Therm 66100. Nothing is getting power except that I occasionally see a light flicker once. Strange because the igniter would click many times to ensure the gas got lit. Tried twisting the thermostat wires together since they showed 12.6 volts, but nothing. Is it possible that the fuse on the particle control board is blown? Any other tests you all recommend before I pull the control board?
  22. While replacing the rear main seal are there any other gaskets or seals that should be replaced while the tranny is dropped? Also, what is an average price that I should expect to pay for this job at a local transmission shop? I always try to do whatever I can myself, but in this case I don't have the work space or the time needed for a rookie like me to pull this one off. Thanks
  23. I'm gonna drop the pan and replace the gasket on this next oil change. The strange thing is that she burns almost no oil around town. I could put close to 1,000 miles on her and as long as I keep her under 50 she doesn't use any oil. Also, the CAT looked great after almost 3,000 miles and she runs great! The front seal was replaced a few years back, but I'm gonna inspect a bit closer for a suspected leak that could be occurring at higher rpms. But sadly I do as well suspect it to be the rings. Just confused because she runs so well and the plugs look good. The head is from Japan Engine Inc. and is new with all new parts never used.
