  2. Mill Supply. The are a StepVan store, but have the mirrors.
  3. I have been wondering that myself. Thanks for the push. I found this in a google search for: BUTYL RUBBER TAPE VS PUTTY TAPE difference. http://rvtravel.com/blog/lowtech/2007/04/i...-tape-time.html According to Tiña, "For our purposes, there are two types of "putty tape," in play: Regular putty tape is cheap, easy to work with, but dries out over time. Butyl tape is much more expensive (nearly twice the price as the regular), is harder to work with, but doesn't have the nasty way of drying out." That works for me.

  6. I needed tires to take me to the snow. Nearly every tire I see are Summer Rib, don't-go-anywhere-near-snow tires. From a VW Van site, I found Nokian Hakkapeliitta CS 185R14 D-load. MOST EXCELLENT!!!! They are a winter rated M&S tire. Just took them on a trip to Spokane, WA from central Calif. First test was Battle Mountain Pass. Snowing hard, 2-3" of snow on the road. The SkiBumMobile driving like it is on dry pavement. Sweet. Fled the area with the Big Freeze on our tail, back thru Idaho. In all probably put 800 - 900 miles on snow & ice covered roads. The only time I got worried was on the way home, after skiing Kirkwood. CalTrans had the R2 signs out - 4WD w\ snow tires or 2WD w\ chains - and it was some of the best road I had been on in the past week. No way I could see putting on the chains. The worry was that the local CHP would disagree with me. In summary, these tires have proven themselves beyond my imagination. http://www.tiresbyweb.com/p-7330-nokian-ha...eliitta-cs.aspx $144 ea. Six of the tires have a DOT date of 1008 - March of 2008. The spare is a 4207. Mounted by America's Tire in Turlock. Jeremy has been Very Good to me in the past. Let it Snow! John
  7. Good morning. I am looking for a person who has remodeled a Sunrader, and has an extra 19" wide rollup door. One of mine was broken and was glued into position. Also, is it a possibility that someone has an unused Sunrader rear storage box? If you have such a spare part, please contact me. Thank you. powdrhound.
  8. Since everybody went to Ryder Fleet Supply to replace their mirrors, by the time I got there, they were sold out... I found the Velvac mirrors at Mill Supply, Inc. http://www.rustrepair.com/app2/onlinecat.htm?r=ms&p=wi They have replacement mirrors, replacement glass, and replacement outside gaskets. And new unrusted mirror clamps. Aggie, Thanks for the pointout.
  9. FYI. The RA08's can be found at onlinetires.com today for $59 ea. That works to $481 for a set of 7. This site does not specifically say that the tires are D load range, but they give them a Load Rating of 102, which is 1,874 lbs per tire... And it calls them All-Season, while all of the others I am finding are Summer Rib tires. I want snow traction. I have not yet decided what tires to put on my rig.
  10. My rig has one fuse for each side of the interior lighting. The water pump switch (and non-working tank level monitor) are on a separate fuse. You have to have a fuse box somewhere... Good luck.
  11. I found my factory Toyota manual at Auto Literature Depot - www.autoliteraturedepot.com Paid $75 for the ~2 1/2" thick book. Covers everything with the chassis.
  12. To all Sunrader owners who have a built-in generator: How large is your generator compartment? I have seen that the Onan Microlite 2800 is the standard generator, but my compartment is too small for the printed dimentions... Was there a special small sized Microlite? Photo's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. John p.s. Does anyone have the factory optional microwave installed? Where? What kind/size?
  13. Dan, You are fortunate to have the manuals. If you can, scan them and upload to the Manuals section in the Gallery. The manuals that Turbo Greg has uploaded there have been a great help to me. And enjoy your Toy. John
  14. I, too, need the porch light cover. The reply to my question to Bargman: "Thank you for contacting Cequent Performance Products. The handle that is on your Sunrader sounds like it was manufactured by a company called Reflect-O-Light, which Bargman bought years back. It is smaller than our current handle. Since Bargman already had an assist handle very similar to the one offered by Reflect-O-Light Bargman did not continue that handle. The lens for this assist handle is no longer available and has no replacement. In the future if I can be any assistance please let me know. Respectfully, Danny Dunn Technical Service Coordinator" So, other than faking up a replacement cover, the option is Bargman's new assist handle. I believe the cutout needs to be made 1/2" - 3/4" wider... Future project.
  15. Nibs, Can you post a photo of the new deadbolt? Thanks. John
  16. Turbo man, When you say "I really can not see why any one would need any more than 45 amps DC.", would you see a problem with going with the 55 amp upgrade? The price difference was only $4 between the 45 and the 55 this week, so I went for the bigger one. I did replace all of the primary wiring with #6 wire, to handle the larger load. Just discovered that the neat terminal block at the battery is actually an auto-reset circuit breaker. I will upgrade that this week. Is more not better? John '86 21' Sunrader
  17. To check tire age: Right next to the DOT is a four digit number. The first two digits are the year, the last two digits are the week of the year; 0625 = 25th week of 2006.
  18. I am pumped. Found my SkiBumMobile last weekend. My plan is to take the '86 21' Rader up to Kirkwood et.al. for extended ski trips. Beat the morning rush by going the day before the storm, then stay a few days. I like this retired stuff. Fortunately, my rig is in great shape. Minor stuff to fix. Have to mount a ski rack somewhere. Hope to install a generator soon. (I'll ask about installation details, switches, mufflers, etc. later.) And then I will need to find a small enough microwave to install in one of the overhead compartments. (Amazing how the list grows.) I have seen the post here about using velcro'd plastic sheeting to seal off the wind under the rig while parked. Good idea. He says Clear. I think Black would gather heat better. What have you done to YOUR rig to make it winter-worthy? Please tell me about any ski trip adventures (or even better, techniques that work so well that it was NOT an adventure!) I already know that it will be a slow drive up to 7,200'. I am also in a search for the right tire that will work great in the snow, and still can stand the Valley heat. Then will need to get tire chains/cables. (Why couldn't I find one of the 4x4's? Oh well.) Are there ways to keep the tanks from freezing? (Other than leaving them empty...) Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you very much. powdrhound

This looks great! What was your methods for removing the stripes and then actually getting the fiberglass Clean? Thanks. powdrhound
  20. Cool. Knowing I don't have to worry about drilling for it makes this a reasonable project. Thanks. John
  21. Excellent site! Has anyone had experience in replacing a swamp cooler rooftop unit with a real a/c unit? I have not yet located my ski-bum-mobile, but my lady will want an a/c for the summer trips. One of the rigs in current consideration has a non-working swamp cooler. I will need more than that for central California summers, and need to know if this is possible. Thanks for any thoughts. John
