  1. I just bought this 1984 Sunrader 21 foot Land Yacht rear dinette model 4 speed manual transmission with 22R 4 cylinder engine. lots of searching but it paid off i paid $3,000 stored inside barn last 10 years. 128,000 miles needs a little tlc on interior. thank you all for all of your tips. i found on craigslist in Oregon. let the fun begin
  2. Thank you for the explanation of difference i appreciate knowing that. The flat windows have a good look.
  3. Why do some sunraders have smaller overhead camper windows when others have wrap around overgead camper windows? Was that a difference from manufacturers location?
  4. So your 85 front straight axle has leaf springs? How many leafs on the front springs ?
  5. How much are you asking for it. And a description of whats there in the purchase please.
  6. Thank you for all of the information guys. I am still learning about Toyota RVs I really appreciate all of your help and information.
  7. Just curious if any of you guys know what the interior cubic foot area of a sunrader 18 footer would be. Tecnologies have come a long way there are some effiecient 12 volt systems out there for the marine industry some require a water source for the water pump not sure if could be adapted for rv use or not but if you had a adapted water return and intake seperate water source system. Weight on some around 26 pounds power draw 400 watts can be ran through a 700 watt pure sin wave inverter. Unit dimensions 15" W x8"Dx 9.5" H . 4200 btu for cooling capacity 300 cu foot space Average 35amp total low amp drawCan be used overnight on batteries through 700 watt inverterVersatile powerful and quiet. This one is a small model and most efficient for 12volt battery draw. There are larger units but draw more power. Price though not cheap 1,375 to 1,998 cool only 1,525 to 2148 reverse cycle.
  8. Congratulations on your travels Life is for adventures. I have spent alot time on sailboats and enjoy traveling by water, as well as working on commercial vessels allows more travel while working. I am new to the site but have owned toyotas over the years. They are very popular around the world for dependability and reliability. Where i have a home in Central America toyotas out sale all other makes of vehicles together. So you shouldnt worry youve made a great choice choosing toyota as the others have said having it checked out by a reliable mechanic and tuned up and replace belts and hoses replace all fluids have radiator pressure tested and have throughly check for leaks from any where on engine and transmission. Brakes check front and rear. Good tires that are properly rated for the weightload of camper. If you plan on driving a ways and keeping it a while a new set should help eliminate alot of worries and problems. I purchased a older 1986 4 runner with fuel injected 22r 4x4 years before mechanic went through it as described above purchased new bf goodrich all terrain tires. New Bilstien shocks and drove 3600 miles from Sandiego CA to south Texas into Mexico out of Mexico into Guatemala to the Caribbean side near Belize and Honduras. No issues. Maybe lucky but toyota dependability is worth putting out the cash, and care for it with regular maintenance and service. I own a 1996 toyota 4 runner 3.4 liter V6 unlimited SR5 4x4 rear axle locker 1 owner well cared for bought 6 years ago with 330,000 miles a 1 owner vehicle it has now 357,000 miles burns no oil. And at 3000 mile oil changes oil comes out as clean as it goes in. Most mechanics dont believe me, but when they see the oil when its changed they believe. I have been told that the 3.4liter V6 toyota engines are 500,000 mile engines and i am going to see if its possible. This one will very likely drive to Guatemala next year from the MD area. I have been considering a RV but toyota Sunraders have caught my eye i am here to see on this site to learn about them and their known issues and problems. Most vehicles with new tires, springs and bilstein schocks will drive again like when they were new. More investment but more comfort in the ride in return. Southeast Asia is beautiful i have spent 9 months working there on ships inbthe last 18 months. Phillipines is my favorite so far. They love foreigners there. Happy trails and travels.

Hows it going. I use a 100 watt solar panel and it keeps minimal useage topped off on 2 12volt batteries. I use a small 750 watt inverter from walmart for 39. It runs my 4 cup mr coffee pot that is 600 watt as it only runs for a about 2 minutes. Start with one panel and assess your usage. Walmart offers 1000 watt inverter for 89. If you use a small microwave and short times using it a 700 watt micro wave shouldnt need much. What i like on 750watt inverter it was cheap and has digital read out for battery volts and shows the volts as power draws. You can keep a eye on your batteries that way. Also walmart has deep cycle 105 amp hour 12 volt batteries for like 89 to 99. With 2 yr warranty.
  10. Hi is your diesel sunrader still available? The guy who swapped had the right idea but a better diesel choice is the Toyota 3.0 liter turbo diesel. They have a lot more power much like a gas v8 in the toyota pickup and 4 runner aplications. What is the price you are asking if you sale yours? Does your sunrader model have the rear dinette? I have just started looking but the sunrader camper look and fiberglass features are most appealing. I have spent alot of years with fiberglass sailboats so i have learned to work with fiberglass. Its only me so a 18 foot is the model i am looking for.
  11. Best to stick with toyota they make incredible 3.0 liter 4 cylinder turbo diesel Japan exports these deisel engines with 30,000 to 50,000 on them with transmission for around 3,000 dollars In japan strict smog regulations is why they pull those engine and drop new ones in as replacement. Those engines are standard in pickups and foretuners which is the 4 runner version. They get around 23 to 26 miles per gallon and have the power of a gas v8 used to drive them in rental vehicles in the 90s thru 2000. They ship to most countries in those 3rd world countries where labor is cheap and they are very familiar with toyota hilux deisel engines their engine swap and adaption is around 1500 or less. Those engines are available in USA with some japanese engine importers but your cost and labor install will be higher. They will get up those mountain grades much faster.
