  1. There are patches of caulk all over the roof of my Sunrader. I decided to remove it and and have a look. Each spot revealed a crack of varying size with a black circle drawn around it (permanent marker). Now it has more of a spotted leopard look with all those black circles everywhere. Jeez. The cracks don’t look deep and I am wondering if all that patching is overkill? Isn’t fiberglass pretty darned waterproof, or do I need to reapply caulk? Thanks in advance you for your kindly advice.
  2. Thank you Linda S! You are a wealth of information. It is a shorty (I’m assuming 18’ is the shorty). I posted a pic yesterday of the roof sag under the topic “Roof Sag -fix or not?” where it shows a measurement of the droop. It’s worse when there’s weight on it. I’d like to keep the AC rather than replace it with a vent, but I worry the rain will pool and become so deep it’ll get beyond the pan and gasket? Here in the Pacific NW we get a ton of rain. I’m not sure if this will show up as a response to you...I hope so... am still trying to figure out how to use this website. Thank you kindly for your info. I’ve been checking back like crazy hoping someone would reply.
  3. Does anyone know about the roof construction on an ‘84 Sunrader? There is no insulation and looks like plywood was fiberglassed directly to the roof shell. It seems the original rear vent was replaced later with an AC unit. Probably due to lack of support, water and weight, the roof has sagged. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to go about removing the plywood from the fiberglass so I can get the roof back up to an arc? I don’t know if it was Linda S. or another post, but I vaguely remember reading about a certain year Sunrader where the plywood provides the roof support and should NOT be removed? Any advise or link to a previous post is welcome! The pics show two edges where roof meets plywood;; one on the vent hole and the other at the ceiling transition. Three layers: fiberglass, plywood, and veneer
  4. I knew the roof sagged on my 84’ Sunrader because the upper cabinet door inside wouldn’t open all the way (hit the left side of the AC unit cover). I’m renovating the interior and have a lot of it torn out, but am a little reluctant to take on redoing the roof. I swear I read somewhere on the forum that the 84’ roof gets it’s strength from plywood that is fiberglassed to it, and it’s not a good idea to tear it off? I removed the AC unit from the roof to replace the gasket, which really showed how bad the sag is. If water pools up there with the AC unit in the middle, will the thickness of the gasket be enough to keep water out? I laid a board from side to side across the roof to show the gap (shown in the pic). I’m a newbie and have never seen another Sunrader so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but this doesn’t look good to me. Do I need to bite the bullet and shore up the roof? Any advice is appreciated.
  5. Hello Bigdog. I've got the same question and also have an '84 Sunrader. I tried this Rustoleum 'Canvas White'which is close, but not perfect. Unfortunately, it's cloudy today and the pic isn't great. And I'm not sure if this kind of paint would be suitable? I'm looking to paint the vent and hatch covers, etc - not the body. Just getting started renovating....
