  1. I spotted someone in a Toyota heading west on i-195 in NJ this afternoon near allaire state park. I wonder if it was anyone on this board...
  2. Well, I'm back from Cape Cod. Nickerson State Park was nice although the camp loop was set up so the site was just across the road. Not much privacy there. Myles Standish- where we stayed the first night and only for a few hours- was also very nice. The camper held up well. Maxing out at 55mph was a little hectic at times. NJ Turnpike at night in the rain at 55 was probably the worst drive I've ever made but other than that it was a fun little trip. I used the bike rack that I got from craigslist. Modified it slightly and reinforced/strengthened the bolts holding the spare tire to the bumper. It rattled a little but did no damage to the bikes. Worked like a charm.... and at a great price. Approx. $35 after a trip to the hardware store.
  3. There are tons of options that I'm exploring as far as bike racks. I purchased a spare tire rack on craigslist for $30 the other day but haven't attempted to attach it just yet. I have a feeling its not going to work. I don't know how much I trust mounting bikes on the ladder or on the spare tire because I don't know how sturdy they are... but I don't have many choises because I don't have a hitch for the back yet. I'm rambling. I guess let me know what you've had luck with... or bad luck with. Departure for Cape Cod is on Monday.... aka the firs time I get to use the toyota.... very exciting.
  4. Thanks for the advice. Based on everything said I've pretty much decided that it would be cheaper to stay in a hotel then it would to lose my MH to the tide, sand, or someones ill fated attempt to tow me out. Futar- are you familiar with any beaches in the area that allow tent camping? Most of the information I've found is in regards to self contained vehicles.
  5. I'm am planning a trip up to cape cod in august. I was wondering if anyone here has ever done any beach camping in their rig? I read through the NPS tips for driving on sand [lower tire pressure, bring a tow rope, etc] but I was wondering if anyone with first hand experience could let me know the pros and cons... well maybe just the cons of camping on the beach. The place I'm trying to stay is Race Point Beach. Anyone ever been there? [p.s. I'm driving a Mini Cruiser that is approximately 21ft long]
  6. My brother is planning on stealing the maiden voyage of our 87 Mini-Cruiser out from under me. Rather then allow him to leave completely unprepared I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a check list of things or list of necessities. They've already checked mechanical things like fluid levels and tire pressure. Thanks!
  7. not sure what year/model you have but in my 87 Mini-Cruiser the captains chairs behind the passenger seat sat on a tripod almost. And each leg of the chair had a bolt that went all the way through to the underside of the camper. We had to have one person inside holding the bolt and one person outside underneath turning the nut. Definitely the most difficult thing I've had to do to this thing since I got it. Hope this helps.
  8. Thats quite the set up for putting in clearance lights. We just replaced several of the front lights that were broken off and a few of the back that weren't functioning. I think they were $5 for the whole light. Walmart in my town didn't carry the size we needed but they do have a pretty large collection.
  9. We just did a roll of vinyl from home depot. It was a 9x12 remnant chunk and covered the entire coach with about 2 feet left to spare. It only cost about $40 and took a few hours to install. What someone said about patience is right though. It's not fun to put in. Pulling the hundreds of left over carpet staples up was the worst part of the ordeal.
  10. that set up looks nice and the matching paint is awesome.
  11. I replaced the bulbs and one of the entire clearance lights in the front of my 87 mini cruiser and they worked for a short period of time. Less than a day. And now they won't work at all. I am having trouble locating the fuses for these lights. I looked with the fuses for the coach and I also looked under the steering column. They were all okay. Any ideas where else I should look for fuses? Or any ideas on what could be causing a problemo for my clearance lights?
  12. I just removed the carpet in my 87 minicruiser last week. What a chore that was. Most of the bolts and nuts were rusted that held the seats and seat belts in. On the few that I could reach [some were obstructed by the propane tank, some were obstructed by the wheel well] most of the bolts broke. This was no easy task. My dad and I definitely broke a sweat trying to do it with a ratchet set. It took 2 people. After we got one and a half seats removed we decided it was easier to just cut all the bolts and nuts with a sawzall and replace them with new ones.
  13. Thank you Pat for the link. I don't have 6 bolt axle on my 87... Uh oh..
  14. Could you please? I'd like to see what I am looking for. Thanks
  15. Heyyy thanks for the advice. Where did you buy the new one?
  16. Here's the story. My screen door has a little brown part on it that slides away. Its fun to pass stuff through but it doesn't do much for keeping the bugs out. Is there a peice that I am missing?
  17. I just wanted to add a note that I bought a generator on ebay. It was a 1500watt max no name brand generator. We had hopes of using it to run the AC in our Mini-Cruiser. No luck there. First problem was that it was louder than oooo. And second major problem was that it would run the fan but not the AC compressor. Back to the drawing board on that one.
  18. Here are some pictures of my awning. I tried to get a picture of what brand it was and I also tried to take a picture showing what I had as far as legs were concerned and what the bottom of them looked like. Does anyone recognize this? Am I missing peices? This is all I have.
  19. It has been a little over a month since we got the camper and we have done quite a bit to it. Right now it looks like it is gutted but it is coming along nicely. I want to make this as easy to read as possible so I am going to do it in list format. Here is what we have done so far: Sanded and painted exterior rust spots. The underbody was particularly bad but hopefully the rustoleum should slow that decay. Removed all of the carpet because it was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Reinforced the floor in the bathroom where the toilet had leaked. Replaced/fixed/cleaned all the exterior lights. Took apart the couch bed and cleaned the cushions and covers. Also painted the frame because it too had began to rust. Flushed the waste tanks about 3 times. Cleaned the water tank with chlorine as described in the manual. Added nonslip cabinet liner and a rack to the back of the closet door for extra storage. Sanded and painted the hood over the stove so its not chrome any more. Now its a lovely almond hahaha Fixed a broken cabinet Here is what is going to happen in the next few weeks: Tile flooring throughout the coach. Eventually we are probably going to swap the oven for a microwave and the stove for a coleman camping stove. Installing the 10.4" lcd screen/dvd player that I won on ebay Hopefully get the awning problem figured out. Replace or reinforce the cab over because I think it is rotting away under the massive amounts of duct tape that someone put there. Find and fix the "small exhaust leak" that was mentioned in the auction. New table that attaches to the wall and folds down when not in use. Paint the ugly thing underneath the sink in the bathroom. Paint the oven to match the hood. I think thats everything. I have attached some pictures. Some were taken by the ebay seller and some were taken by me.
  20. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of where I could get more information about the axel recall on mini-cruisers. I read something about it in a thread a little lower but it just said that one existed. Can someone get more specific?
  21. think this could be the same problem that I am having with my 87 mini cruiser? We're talking about the monitor of tank levels correct?
  22. I have a 87 with a 4cyl engine and was wondering if it would be possible to attach a trailer hitch and tow a small trailer just for extra storage space. I find it a challenge to bring my car up to interstate speeds. All signs point to a trailer making this even harder to accomplish. Is attaching a trailer to a 4cyl 87 with an automatic transmission a bad idea?
  23. That just about convinced me to keep the kitchen the way it is. yum.
  24. Yeah, its there haha. It looks like he won the same one and then something went wrong and the seller reposted it. His auction ended about a week before mine did.
