  1. There are a bunch of products to run wires on the surface of a wall or ceiling https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS738US738&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=hide+wire+on+wall+surface
  2. A roof mount in the vent hole is the best AC. I think $500 or so though. Most likely there is 120v power hidden in the vent edge. For ventilation vent fans my preference is a variable speed one. I find the three speed fans too noisy on low and it is always nice to pull in some quiet cool air in the evening. If there is no 12dc power in the vent hole you might be able to pull some power from a nearby light fixture.
  3. Very true and probably illegal. Only ever drafted once. Was driving north on Highway 101 in CA against a 30 mph head wind. I was driving the turbo sunrader. All by myself I really had to have my foot in it and was running max boost of about 7 pounds and about 50 mph. A truck got onto the freeway in front of me and I fell in behind. Boost almost dropped to zero with allot less foot in the pedal. Ran like that for about 40 miles. The trucker moved to the other lane to pass a slow car. I hesitated. Never could catch back up once I was back in the head wind.
  4. Having been a motor head all my life and having run K&N and K&N type air filters on many different engines I can not honestly say that I have ever noticed any real HP or fuel mileage gains with naturally aspirated engines. Sounded meaner and so the psychological impact translates to "IT'S GOTTA HAVE MORE POWER CAUSE IT SOUNDS MEANER". If anything maybe the engine can rpm up quicker. Now my 7.3 L turbo charged diesel I think (key word "I THINK") did benefit from a K&N type filter and a new cold air box. But I am also running a tuner on that engine. The tuner really makes the difference. I can pull a 5000 pound trailer up a 6% grade at 65 mph and the truck itself weighs 10,000 pounds empty. Sure would like to see some real world dyno tests with and without a K&N type filter on the 22 and V6 engines. Heck just going up a hill with an empty fuel tank as opposed to a full fuel tank will increase HP to the rear wheels. Here is K&N web page for the 22's http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=33-2009 Now the V6 is a different story if you install complete kit 3.3 HP gain http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx?type=all&year=1991&make=TOYOTA&model=4 Runner&engine=3.0L
  5. OK all I am going to make this a sticky. There is a ton of things we can possibly do to the 22 and V6 engines and drive trains for MPG and HP/Torque gains. There are big differences between the 22 and V6 transmissions, 22 no locking torque converter (except 22re turbo) and V6 has a locking torque converter. Here is a list. Air filters Cold air intake systems Spark plugs Higher voltage coils Larger exhaust including catalytic converters Camshafts Engine oil and additives Transmission coolers Larger radiators Tire sizes Rear end gear ratio changes Actual MPG numbers. We are not all in Kansas where it is flat forever! Don't forget weight, coach length and cargo. Sure I missed something. Have at it, all opinions and scientific facts need apply. Oh, forgot one thing, drafting behind an 18 wheeler, it does work!
  6. Not sure about the bite mark scenario. Unless that piece of line was factory formed into a bend it could just be that it deteriorated and cracked on the outside of the bend where the rubber stretches when bent looking like bite marks. Have a mechanic look at it. Keep in mind an insurance adjuster gets paid not to pay if possible. It seems more common for rodents to chew on wires than rubber. My neighbor just recently had something chew up the engine wire harness on his Toyota pickup, still does not run right. I had a rodent build a nest on top of my engine when on a camping trip. When I tried to remove the nest it popped out stood on it's back legs and squeaking and hissing at me then jumped off the side of the motor. I thought all was well. Drove 30 miles up the road, opened the hood and there it was alive and well on top the engine building a new nest. Anyhow did you find any rat turds or turds of any kind? Rodents are constantly dropping those things. If it runs it is not totaled, just needs a bit of TLC!
  7. The problem with what everyone calls the bad axle is actually the application of dual wheels. That extra wheel creates allot of leverage flexing the axle at the bearing. Replace the dual setup with a single wheel and the leverage problem goes away. Weight is still a factor though. You have to have your rig weighed, you need to know how much weight each wheel is supporting. Our 86 18ft sunrader was not light. If I remember just under 7000 pounds loaded. The original axle that came from the factory on what ever year pickup is what the bad axle is. It is only bad though because of the duals and weight. If the rear is heavier than what the stock axle was designed to carry then you must go with a full floating rear axle.
  8. Don't forget the "Axle Facts", link at top of page and here
  9. The plus side is that it looks like it has the full floating rear axle. Here in Calif, flatbed Toyota trucks with full floating rear axles are in high demand by landscapers etc, maybe true in other states as well. Even the rear axle is worth something for the guy who wants to convert his bad rear axle Toyota. Something to think about. Maybe you would have a use for a flatbed. Save the appliances if you can and re-purpose them or offer them for re-purpose. Imagine building a small home using the appliances that can be powered by propane!
  10. Post some pics of what it presently looks like! If you have the interior walls open why not add new studs next to old. Glue and screw the new studs to the old and to the outside (no screws just glue) skin. Re-insulate. You can re-skin the inside with 1/4 inch luan plywood. When installing the luan make paper templates. Glue the luan to the studs. I think the finish staplers do a good job of stapling the luan down. The ends of the staple pierce in opposite directions and leave a small hole.
  11. Our 86 had factory power windows. i do miss them!
  12. Wow that looks like me, the one in the whit T-Shirt.
  13. Could be dead. Check the fuse. Many possibilities, bad switch on stick, wiring harness plug apart. Even when you get it working you will find that the 22re does not have enough power for overdrive. Roofs come in two flavors, metal (aluminum) and rubber. Metal can get small corrosion holes which will siphon water in. Rubber can get splits, tears etc. Both can be coated with a rubber membrane. For the metal Home depot and Lowes both carry products which can coat metal roofs and seal them. Rubber roofs need a specific coating made for the type of rubber roof it is. The extended frames for these coaches were not built to support that type of weight. It is possible to strengthen the assembly but you should go to a metal welding shop for advice. 400 hundred pounds becomes 900 with the leverage hanging behind the bumper especially when you hit a bab bump etc. You should already have a battery compartment that should accommodate a deep cycle battery. It would have originally been wired to your alternator through a switch called an isolator. The switch only connected the two systems together when the ignition switch is in the run position. No matter what you do for a coach battery you need an isolator switc. Very light weight stuff. Whatever is carried the items should be in a mounted rack so that the items do not move around directly on the roof itself and cause leaks. MPG is a huge variable, head winds, tail winds, speed, engine tuning and condition. Reasonable speed is another variable. What shape is your suspension. Does it drive like a boat or like a sports car. You can drive 100 mph in a straight line. Swerve for some reason with mushy suspension and control becomes a huge issue. Like out of control. You should be able to drive the speed limit with good suspension. The truck is a Toyota pickup. Nothing special about it. So look for a reputable Toyota mechanic. The coach is a recreational vehicle. Even though it is on a Toyota chassis it is the same as a dodge, or a trailer of the era. Google rv repair near you then look for reviews. Yes, search for foam sales online. Can't remember the company I bought my from. But they had several flavor of density. I did my mattress, couch and cushions. Just sent them the measurements and the shipped it out. Foam as I understand it has a life span of around 16 years. Installing the new though was a challenge. When done though I was no longer sitting on the plywood. Post a picture Google is your friend! That sounds good, some even put in some shelving. Welcome to the discussion board!
  14. Thanks Joe. Sorry for the delay in responding. We have been preoccupied with the weather here in the Santa Cruz mountains for the last couple of days. This discussion board would be a zero without all you members contributing. This is a community, communities help each other!
  15. Thank yo, thank all of you. We presently have over 7300 members. 4 new members yesterday.
  16. The revenue is small. As for being with it in 2017 this board is Invision Power Board. As modern and advanced as it gets and constantly upgraded by Invision Power Systems. There are three sites. Classifieds.toyotamotorhome.org which is also free for those of you selling or looking. The discussion board and Toyotamotorhomes.com. .Com has not been updated. Eventually it will be replaced with joomla software. It's creation is in the works. And as a note we stopped taking donations some time ago.
  17. The board here is mobile friendly. It automatically resizes and re configures for what ever device it is being viewed on.
  18. crawl underneath and see if there is any kind of hole in that area.
  19. I have not tested this device but I see great reviews for it on the net. Wireless internet coverage in most parks is really bad. https://www.alfa.com.tw/products_show.php?pc=28&ps=238
  20. Upgraded most of my PC's from 7 to 10 when it was free. Only had one running 8, upgrade it also. No touch screens. 10 seems to be very stable but so was 7.
  21. Only use GPS on my Droid. If you do decide to purchase the receiver with GPS research what maps they use. Then google reviews for that mapping software. On my phone I use both Sygic LINK and google maps. Sygic though did a change that is annoying. It used to display distance to rest stops and no longer does. If I have it turned off some how I can not find the switch. So what is important for me is Bluetooth connect to the stereo. My phone is mounted at eye level, my world interface right there. What would be cool is voice control over the whole system. Presently I have to manually select modes cd, dvd, Bluetooth audio (stream music from phone) etc. I primarily listen to cached music from Radio Paradise LINK. They have no commercials and you can cache several 12 hour blocks of music on your phone and not use your data. Bluetooth connect is 1st on my list, in dash GPS last. Here is another reason. At looking at in dash GPS systems I have concerns about map updates and accuracy. Non are perfect though.
  22. I have always used a wired systems. Of all the wireless ones I have seen they sometimes have a problem with a strong enough signal to make it to the cab. I use 170 degree view cameras from ebay LINK. I use cable called Siamese LINK. It has the coax and power leads incorporated. Instead of wiring the camera up to my reverse lights I put a switch on the dash and turn the camera on or off at will. Use a lcd screen or a stereo system that has a built in screen that activate when a signal is detected from the camera. Mount the camera centered and as high as you can. Higher gives you a better depth of field. Mounting on the license plate bracket is optional but does not give you full side to side view like center. Remember to somehow seal the outside camera connections from weather.
  23. In case no one has figured out this little trick here goes. You can read the initial post of a thread without clicking on it. Just hover your mouse over the title of a thread for just a few seconds and a window will open!
