Sterling
I am unable to register my 1982 Toyota RV on the Toyota owners website as it doesn't recognize the VIN. Same problem with getting insurance on the Progressive website. Any ideas?
Kale
Can you post the VIN? VINs are comprised of information about the vehicle and a check digit, if there's a typo in the VIN the check digit will be invalid. Also check that you're not using the letters I, O, or Q, if you are replace the I with the number 1 and O/Q with a zero.
Derek up North
What does your DMV have to say about your VIN? They're the ones I'd be concerned with! I'm not sure what the 'Toyota Owners Website' is, but I don't remember ever being asked for my VIN. And I wouldn't give it anyway!

In my case Ford and Honda already have my vin. If you are scratching your head as to why I would join. In a word, software. Much of a new cars systems are software based. My Ford Focus had sync which had a number of updates that improved functionality. By joining you get email notification on a number of things. In marketing speak it is called engagement. Life today in the social age and all that. Simply, it fosters brand loyalty. Many forums like this are on the web and manufacturers are aware that these communities are good for their brand but would rather their own playgrounds. Derek up North
Seems like a lot of VINs that do not work. I picked one at random to give a try. I am not sure where you are trying them, but it worked for me. http://www.vindecoder.net/?vin=JT5VN94T8K0010340&submit=Decode http://www.carvinlist.com/vlt/1989/Toyota/Pickup/JT5VN94T8K00
DanAatTheCape
I think the shorter ones are not VIN's , they are a number that means something to Toyota though. Not sure when Toyota transitioned to standard VIn's - the longer ones look right to me - they will decode and you can then see the pattern
