Welding with a toyota motor home

Just wondering if anybody has used a welder from a toyota RV Generator. It is a onan 3800 and I was planing to run it of the 220 plug that the lights and AC run off on the side of the RV. It looks like some seriouse 2 gauge wire from the Generator from the plug. Is this a bad Idea??? I hve welded with a generator before but it was a 110V and a small honda.

Thanks

I am not sure about welding with the Onan, but to borrow an item from the Jeep group, it is not unusal to mount a second alternator on the engine and use it as a dedicated welder. The diode would be removed and a couple of other simple changes made.

Info on this conversion can be found on many of the JeepBoards.

I have also mounted a York A/C Compressor on my CJ and use it as an Air Pump to re-inflate the tires after a days offroading. This will build up to 125psi & enough volume to run air tools. (also provides an air source to operate a 18 wheeler's air horn)!
