Here's something I found on a tech-training site for a major shock absorber company..

Always prime shock absorbers before fitting fully extend and compress the unit 3 times to remove air pockets inside the shock.

I've never heard of this before.

Shock absorbers self-prime. The reason why many companies suggest they be primed is so they don't get returned as defective when they don't work correctly when first taken out of the box.
